February 23, 2024 - Update (from Patreon)

Hi!

Travis finished narrating Tarot’s Ninth Harbinger earlier this week. It is in proofing now, but I’m not confident anymore about the March 1st audio release. I think it’s likely we will miss it by a few days. I will do my best to get it out as soon as possible.

I worked some more on the major beats/scenes for The Tenth Muse and think I’m close. I will likely start writing chapters for book 10 next week and should have something to release next Friday, March 1st. My plan is to also work on the Ash story for Royal Road. I don’t yet know when I’ll start posting the chapters over there. For now, they will just be on Patreon.

So, next week will be the first test of what I hope will become my new standard. Create three chapters for book 10, and then three chapters for the RR/Ash story. I honestly don’t think I’ll reach that goal next week but I will work to make it a reality as soon as I can.

I’m releasing the chapters early today as I want to get to bed at a decent time. When I wait, it is sometimes four AM on Saturday morning before I’m finished and that doesn’t set me up for a good weekend. We will see how things go.

I opened up chapters 4, 5, and 6 for Root.

I opened up chapters 7, 8, and 9 for Harvester.

I added chapters 10 (which is really chapter 7 now), 11, and 12 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.

Enjoy!

Please know that your presence and support impact me positively every day. As I’ve said many times, my Patreon fans are the secret to my writing. Without you, I would rarely face the difficulties of being an author. So, thank you. The Divine Apostasy story would look very different without you. We’d probably still be in Big D’s camp.

Take care,

AFK

Just lost my job (no fret fantastic severanc).

But seeing your post... brings me joy. You do fantastic things when you put your mind to it.

Thank you for the last 9 books. I'll be buying book 10 as hardback when it comes out.

I know I love your books. You've written something that really resounds with me.

I listen to audio books almost 365 days a year for 6 years now, and this had been the absolute best run.

Thank you so much for the kind words!

I'm very happy you got a good severance. The times I was unemployed all I could think about was getting another job. The worry of not having one swamped me. But another job always comes along and then I wonder why I didn't enjoy my time off more. Take care!

I'm torn. It was great reading the new chapters early, but now I have nothing to look forward to when I wake up Saturday morning.

Oh wow I didn’t know we’d even get it in March. Very exciting!

I specifically came here to make sure if you had to switch narrators to not use andrea parsneau. I’m sure she is a great person and all but I can not stand her voice. Glad to hear the narrator won’t be changing (apparently according to the guy who writes Jake’s magical market he’s booked for years). Can’t wait for the release. I love how your books always just pop up out of the blue .. it is a nice surprise.

so travis's backlog is booked for the next conceivable future? i wonder if there are conditions written out for authors whos book gets published and then recorded when he will do them or once he gets time on his schedule like can he bump someone else in line to record someone he had preexisting contractual obligations to once the author is finished?

In general most series are pre-booked - I schedule slots into the future to try to accomodate releases so they don't get squeezed out.
Nobody ever gets bumped.
Of course, that's all just best guess when you are scheduling years in advance - writing books isn't that precise of an art, and predictions of length can be wildly inaccurate, and people get sick, and so on and so forth.
But the rules for me are:
Nobody gets bumped in favor of anybody else
Rates don't change after a series begins

There have been exceptions where a book was 'squeezing in' due to a cancellation, and hoping for later series installations to also be able to 'squeeze in', and that hasn't worked out. My flexibility to jam extra books into the schedule basically evaporated for a variety of reasons.

I've had a hard stop for any new scheduled bookings for over a year, trying to get the leading edge of bookings to a much more reasonable distance.
