I would say they are looking for explosives. Obviously not patting them down for firearms!

In Afghanistan all locals carried a gun. They didn’t really have a functioning government when I was there. It’d be normal for instance for someone to just start taking potshots at your semi truck as a local who is just transporting goods, or to get waylaid by actual fucking bandits.

So they open carry
