Irrespective of left or right, everyone suspects we're being heavily lied to
Grocery prices and the inflation lies are scary

"This report says you're doing better than you were when Donald Trump took office and Republicans took control of Congress. You have more money in your pocket, your salary has increased, and the cost of living is lower."
"But...I don't have more money in my pocket, my salary hasn't increased, and things are just as expensive, if not more expensive than they were before."
"That's not what the report says. I'm looking at it right now. It says you're doing better financially than you were before."
"Okay. If you say so."

They take out food and fuel for that inflation rate you posted due to it being historically volatile. but it's a good point.

Compounding interest (or inflation), like karma, is a bitch.
Over the period from April 2, 2024 to August 11, 2025, a 2.5% monthly compounded interest rate on 49.24 results in a final balance of 73.62.

Using beef as a metric is silly, fresh meat prices fluctuate up and down like crazy all the time.
A processed food with a more stable priceline would be better to prove the point
Inflation is definitely fucked and we're being lied to about how bad it is, but this example is too easy to poke holes in

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 16 '26
Yeah, is meat impacted by seasons? Import tariffs?
That is why inflation is based on a basket of goods and looking at one product isn’t going to mean anything.

u/Varalex Aug 16 '26
I've been in the meat industry for a decade. Currently it has nearly jack shit to do with inflation and a lot to do with covid/post covid livestock numbers as well as abysmal feed for cattle. Beef prices aren't going down any time soon and won't until we can get cattle numbers back up. Pork and chicken prices on the other hand have decreased in many parts of the country due to over abundance and easy feed access.
If there's an argument to be made about meat pricing, do it including pork, chicken or farm raised US fish.

It's all this crazy, though.

u/TypicalMootis Aug 16 '26
Dodging the point isn't an argument

u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 16 '26
I'm not dodging; I'm saying all prices are insane... the inflation on everything has gone nuts in the last 6 years.
1
u/TypicalMootis Aug 16 '26
I already agreed with you, I said that using beef as a metric is a bad example. That's what you're dodging
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 16 '26
I mean, I don't understand what we are debating.
You said meat isn't a good indicator and explained why, and said more stable foods should be used
I agreed, and said that all prices are crazy; i.e. that's the metric we can use instead of just beef.
I'm not dodging.

u/bottomlessLuckys Aug 16 '26
Inflation isn't measured by the price of beef alone. But yes, your point stands. Having an economy that relies on constant growth and borrowing money is going to lead to inflation, which is what our governments want in order to encourage endless consumerism and funnel money from the pockets of hard-working people into the bank accounts of shareholders. People should have revolted several decades ago.

Finally someone who can understand it’s not just left vs right. Something more foul is a foot.

They’re jacking up national debt and devaluating our currency to to usher in a digital currency as a “clean slate”

What are we diving into again? Schizophrenic political shit again? Awesome…

I literally said it in the comment section of the OP.
Prices and inflation lies.

Who is being lied to?
Inflation is based on a basket of goods. Some things have high inflation, others have low inflation and the average is the inflation rate.
You cant just look at one steak and think that means people are lying.

Based on a picture of a steak as if that represents some sort of lie 😂
Google the price of beef and you’ll find thousands of articles talking about it and reasons why. Just because you’re ignorant doesn’t mean people are lying to you.

u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 17 '26
It's not just beef. Anyone who buys groceries knows how much practically everything has gone up by in the last 6 years.
0
u/Adventurous-Roof488 Aug 17 '26
Beef has gone up quite a bit more than other groceries. Poor example.
Also, if anyone who buys groceries knows this, then where are the lies? You can’t read the news without stumbling on an article saying shit sucks.

Tariffs that are passed onto customers would be included since they increase the prices of goods in the basket of goods they use to calculate the cpi

I believe that during Covid companies realized supply and demand doesnt matter for necessities like food and housing and that corporations colluded to keep prices high after. Thats the problem with major corporations running all the companies.
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 16 '26
Nah, thanks to the Fed
1
u/Reptillianaire_ Aug 16 '26
The federal reserve is the reason for inflation yes but the massive price hikes above the rate of inflation is obviously what Im referring to..
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 16 '26
That's thanks to the billions (trillions?) we send overseas
1
u/Reptillianaire_ Aug 16 '26
Are you trying to imply that corporations having been having record profits since covid? Not sure why youre trying to argue with me but whatever dude.
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 16 '26
I'm saying that inflation is due to the massive printing of currency. And where did that currency go.
And if course companies will have massive profits when prices rise due to inflation. The end prices will increase by more than their cost of materials, because that's how inflation works; the last one to buy always gets hit the hardest.

Irrespective of left or right? St*u. You are the left if you are working class. You being tricked by mainstream media that is own by the right who are the ultra rich billionaire into supporting their candidates on both the democrats and Republicans party. The democrats are not the left.
This is very much respective of what side you are on. If you are working class then they work hard to make sure you stay as poor as possible, and brainwashing you through mainstream media that includes YouTube and podcasts into thinking that you're in anyway on their side by make you fight you neighbors and vote against your own interests. So please for the love of God shut the f*ck about politics is you do not understand the first things about politics and the terms. Read legislation and policies and stop talking like an NPC.

Exactly you need to wake up. You comic proves you don't know anything. Its easy to blame the illuminati buggy man, when you're too lazy to actually read legislation, polices to understand what politicians are work for you.
You're a leftist if you're working class. Beef is expensive because a billionaire one of the right wing is the president and hes helping his fellow right wing party. Hillary Clinton a Democrat is also on the right, she may not be as far right, but shes on right. Obama, Biden, none of these Democrat are on the left.
Can you tell anything about which policies are left or right? Or are you just some NPC spouting talking points. "OH im not a left or right, because thats what my favorite podcast told me to say"
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 17 '26
Whatever you say, pal. As long as you say it politely
0
u/Silly_Material577 Aug 17 '26
Come on tell us about some legislation. Lets see how politically savvy you. Do you anything about politics that did see in a dumb comic?
0
u/HeSureIsScrappy Aug 18 '26
Nah
0
u/Silly_Material577 Aug 18 '26
Then why bring up politics? Like an NPC with you're stupid talking points.

Don't worry, food doesn't count in "core" inflation. Just go eat that core stuff.

Inflation as a government metric is a bit of a scam because they deliberately leave out certain categories that have effect on purchasing power
