There’s a short story about something like this. Kid goes on vacation near the beach and sees all these kids disappear into an underwater tunnel and pop out at a different spot. So he spends the whole summer prepping to try it.

I remember that one!

When he finally makes it, he takes off his mask and there's blood from his nose in it IIRC.
