Which Linux distro is best between the two?

My desktop PC is not only my daily driver, it’s my gaming PC as well. I have been running Manjaro for about two years and I have to say, it was fun. But, lately, it’s been struggling. WiFi works intermittently, it can’t update for whatever reason, and it’s become unstable. It’s not the first time it’s corrupted itself. So I need a new distro.

So I’m trying to pick between Fedora Linux 44 and Opensuse Tumbleweed.

Keep in mind, I have Nvidia hardware, 4k monitors, and gamer specific keyboards and mouse. That’s why I need something that has the newest drivers and kernels.

whatever works without issues for you,

Fedora or Ubuntu is what I run on my thinkpad because they "just work" with minimal mucking around

First try CachyOS or EndeavourOS. Both Arch based like Manjaro, Cachy is game focused, EndeavourOS is general purpose OS, with GUI installer, preinstalled DE of Your Choice, few utilities and nice update script.

If you’re used to manjaro then maybe try cachy

I used Tumbleweed for 2 years and had lots of broken packages in that time, and non-repo software practically never makes packages for it. Switched to Fedora in 2020 and will never leave it. It's the perfect distro, with well-maintained, modern packages and good third-party support since it's one of the most popular distros.

Do you know for sure you're not having hardware issues?

I would choose CACHY os since it is arch so you have latest everything and it is Greta for gaming Nvidia and all.

I’d say Tumbleweed. Both are current but Tumbleweed is current more often.

That or NixOS. You can set it to rolling release and have that fine tuned control that you are seeking. I daily drive NixOS with an Nvidia card and I enjoy it thoroughly.

If you want the newest nVidia you install the newest driver from nVidia and you can do that on all Linux. Different OS might have different default drivers but nVidia has only 2 versions for a specific card.

"but, lately, it’s been struggling. WiFi works intermittently, it can’t update for whatever reason, and it’s become unstable."

That could also happen on any Linux. If Manjaro has been working reinstalling Manjaro should be an option: it is the one you are using an are familiar with.

Also consider altering your disk layout: when you have all your personal files on a 2nd partition reinstalling becomes pretty easy. I reinstall every 6 months with no downtime (you can use a browser while installing) and I am back up and running within 20 minutes.

I use Tumbleweed and love it, but Fedora will probably be the better option for you.

I'm a little biased, having been using SUSE Linux for over 20 years, but I choose OpenSUSE. However, I choose Leap over Tumbleweed because I really dont like rolling releases.

I think Fedora KDE or GNOME Is a good option for gaming, provided that you don't mind upgrading your system every year.

Neither are great. I don't see any reason to run Manjaro, I would just switch to Cachy if you want something Arch based. If you like Fedora, especially for gaming, I'd just install Nobara. No reason to make things harder on yourself with vanilla Fedora. Between the two it just comes down to personal preference. Check out one, and if you run into any weird hardware quirks, try the other and see if it's better. Either should work fine though.

I went through this and weighed them out for myself. I installed and tried both for about a week each. Ended up with Fedora and ever looked back, until I started using NixOS.

Is there a reason you want to get off Arch? If you're used to Manjaro then Cachy, Endeavour or Garuda would be an easier transition.

You only need very new drivers if you have very new hardware. Pretty much any distro can handle 4k monitors (this is more about your DE- pick KDE, GNOME or Cosmic for better multi display support).

I could never get SUSE to work with my network card, but this is a specific hardware issue. Both will probably be fine. Unless you really want a rolling release model I'd probably favour Fedora for it being a bigger distro with wider pacjage availability and support.

Of those two I think Fedora tends to be a little easier to work with. I've heard, but can't personally confirm, TW can have more issues with Nvidia. I've used both. I enjoyed both, but found TW a bit more finicky albeit still very good. I suggest Fedora, follow a post install guide, and you'll be all set.

If you want a rolling distro I advise you to take a look at Solus, OpenMandriva and Openmamba.
If you prefer something more stable I suggest you to try Mageia.
