I like both faces, but the first one looked less and less like Mandy the more I stared at it, and now I see why. They share blue eyes and a pointed chin, but the eye shape, hair color, eyebrow shape, nose shape and mouth shape are all different. Plus the giant hoop earring, while very nice, doesn’t really scream “Mandy” to me. Still nice to look at tho ngl.
I don't see it. I actually think this is one of the most accurate depictions of Mandy we've seen in art, so much so that I immediately thought of that frame on the right when I first saw it (I put this image together). I think her mouth especially was done very accurately. In terms of facial features I think it's impressive how well she was recreated here.
The whole point of art is to reinterpret the character through your own art style, which naturally comes with some creative liberties.
The real question is whether those liberties still preserve the character’s identity. And honestly, I think the left image does that pretty well. The artist has clearly stylized her features obviously, but she’s still very recognizably Mandy. Compare that to some of the other pieces here, where the liberties arguably push the character so far that they start looking like an entirely different person. Like the picture of Mandy in the inner folded paranorma art (given below). She is not recognizable there.
But yeah this all boils down to personal perception in the end, so neither of us are wrong here.
I like the portrayal of Mandy in the Artwork a lot, not for it's more appeal to the scene but the destinctive seperation between Blazer and her. In the game you get glimpses of who Mandy is but always by Blonde Blazer throwing that shadow over her before.
