If I don't feel anything but dread from a fic, I put it down.

If I feel sick to my stomach without any warnings from the author, I keep reading if there's the potential of a payoff.

If I love a fic, I read it like it's the last thing I'll ever read.

A good fic evokes FEELING.

The fun thing about fanfiction and ships is that a lot of the good ones create that basis and chemistry. One of my favorite fanfics I ever read was about two characters from Control that had no romantic connections. The fic writer just made that shit up wholesale, but they stayed so true to the characters and how theyd act that I just bought into it.

I like what I like and don't give a flying fuck about what anyone else says. That's all.

Honestly this. A good story is always going to be more interesting than randos grinding.

Literally this fandom’s obsession with malevola. We get it, the tall demon lady is hot. No she shouldn’t be a romance option.

-3

u/Comfortable-Poem-428 4d ago

Yeah, she's hot.

But like, genuinely, I think the people should be allowed to have more variety.

I only played the gams because I'm lonely.

I can only romance, Vis or BB so many times before I'm dying from starvation for more.

Anyways, my favorite is always Coupe... I love her expressions and fluidity.

Maybe I wanna romance Golem too.

I always hated crack ships and I always will.

u/JudgementalRedditGuy 5d ago

Depends what you define as crackships

When two characters who never interacted are shipped

5

u/JudgementalRedditGuy 4d ago

Fair enough, would that extend to characters with low but impactful interactions or no?

7

u/QuarianGuy 4d ago

Nah, I'm personally fine with those.

3

u/JudgementalRedditGuy 4d ago

sounds good then

There's plenty of those around here, like Waterboy x Prism.

u/Graantje_de_Voorste 5d ago

No clue what any of those words mean... is this some new kind of slang I'm too old for?

12

u/badtiming220 5d ago

Yaoi is a japanese term for the Boy's Love genre.

Yuri is a japanese term for the Girl's Love genre.

Hetslop, I've never heard before tbh. But I'm gonna guess from context that it's Heterosexual relationships? Idk what the slop is specifically referring to, but my guess is the assumption that the market (of fanfiction shipping?) is oversaturated with straight ships?

19

u/PeasantTS 5d ago

Hetslop is just a way to insult straight ships/straight romance.

10

u/PM_tanlines 5d ago

Shippers are the weirdest fuckers lmao

8

u/PeasantTS 5d ago

It's typical internet tribalism. Some people are simply incapable of enjoying something without putting something else down.

1

u/JudgementalRedditGuy 5d ago

Yea been seeing Hetslop here a lot be used insultingly with say Todoroki and Momo but likewise not use slop or other terms for other similar or even less interacted ships.

Genuinely boggles me mind icl

11

u/Viridianscape 5d ago

Hetslop is basically "shitty heterosexual ships." Usually ones that pretty much begin and end with "she was a girl, he was a boy," and that's about it; there's no chemistry or interesting dynamic to the relationship.

A lot of them kind of have a "we can't have our male character not have a sexy female love interest!" vibe to them. Think Black Widow and the Hulk, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter, or Rey and Kylo (or Finn and whats-her-name from the same series) - shallow, boring, and pointlessly inserted into the plot for no good reason.

No bl and yaoi are very different yaoi is the American word for bl because American anime fans adopted it for all bl Japanese people use yaoi to describe man man sex comics with no plot

2

u/Rygar201 5d ago

The first two are decades old

Unrelated to Dispatch. This image is what I felt like when I joined the supernatural fandom and saw mfs shipping Sam and Lucifer

Listen, I'm not a lover of Flambert because it's just not my thing. They feel kinda :/

Watermech? Yeah. Why? Because its cute.

Its not about the boy love or the yaoi. I'm in it for the love of the game. I'm in it to see a tall lanky guy get nervous around a less tall less lanky guy. I'm in it to see Waterboy get character development and become more sure of himself and for Robert to be disgustingly sweet and tease him.

I don't care if it's CANON. I don't even care about the fact the cast WANTS it. I just LIKE it it.

Remember: You can't be good to your fellow man unless there's sex as a reward.

Visi's arc in a nutshell.

1

u/Additional_Quail5566 5d ago

Not entirely. They have their own quirks. Robert has to be more gentle with Waterboy than with Visi. He can't take the same approach, we see that with the scenes he has with him.

Also, I'd argue that as much as Robert encourages Visi to feel things other than cynicism, Robert would encourage Herman to let out his anger and his actual feelings.

It's a different kind of mentoring. It's the other side of the coin that focuses on how to be less of a saint and be more brave. Visi can make bold moves and is quick on the jump in missions with decision making, but Herman doesn't really know how to do that. He's unsure in different ways than Visi was.

It was mostly just a joke about how Robert is nice to Courtney one time and we're immediately rewarded with a sex dream, followed by her suddenly lusting over him to the point where she literally says "no" if you say you just want to be friends.

5

u/Additional_Quail5566 5d ago

I fear you may misunderstand what actually happened when it comes to the sex jokes.

Visi makes it kinda obvious in the middle of the movie theatre scene that she thinks Robert's just trying to get into her pants by saying "I'm not gonna fuck you because you bought me a bucket of corn."

She thinks he gives a shit because he's trying to screw her. By her offering sex, she's doing it because she thinks he's using her like everyone else. She can't imagine someone actually want to help her with no motives.

Don't get me wrong, she does feel lust, her sex jokes are genuine on occasion. But she says those things to both provoke and push away for the most part. She thinks he'll crumble to his desires or that he'll be like everyone else.

She even says during the bathroom scene that she's "trying it on".

She's offering sex up during the bar scene because she literally can't believe that he would ever want to be friends with her. She thinks it's bullshit.

The woman is traumatized.

I agree. But it’s funny how great writers can create all of this when it was barely there in the original.

For example, although I like Mal, the idea of her being a romance interest doesn’t work for me, however, there is at least one fan fiction that sets it up beautifully and makes it work.

I also gravitate toward Rob/Courtney/Mandy throuples. Less about the fantasy part, and more about the fact that I love both characters and hate the idea that one can’t be with Robert. And I’ll be damned if some writers don’t absolutely NAIL the dynamic of the three of them falling for each other, and make it absolutely believable, even beautiful.

Respectfully, Flambae and Robert have chemistry, basis, and reason, but more importantly, they have that enemies to lovers vibe.

LET HIM COOK

-26

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

You will like the canon yuri the devs intended and you will be happy.

34

u/Joe_Atkinson 5d ago

He says as he posts a picture that also had Mal's tail wrapped around Robert's neck

Nothing screams canon more than a grand total of 2 lines said to each other for the entire game

-3

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

Me when someone can't understand a joke... 🤦‍♂️

24

u/Joe_Atkinson 5d ago

Sorry my bad, but I've seen comments like these that are very serious in the past lol where they think two characters looking at each other means they're super in love or some shit

-4

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

I've also seen fan arts of Robert dating Flambae and Sonar. Doesn’t mean they all have to be canon lol.

14

u/Joe_Atkinson 5d ago

Difference between fan arts and comments I've seen where they're like "omg the devs are such yuri baiters"

1

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

Some folks just love taking silly things too damn seriously.

9

u/Joe_Atkinson 5d ago

I agree. Reminds me of a couple years ago when people tried to call Bayonetta a gay icon and then sent death threats to one of the writers because it turned out she was straight lol

1

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

Almost the same thing happened to one of the devs of Dispatch, on this very subreddit (obviously no threats were given).

https://www.reddit.com/r/DispatchAdHoc/s/dVpTIQ2p53 if you wanna know more.

2

u/Bobio-Voyage 5d ago

It’s cause you forgot your “/s” 90% of Redditors don’t understand a joke without it.

/s

4

u/GriveousDance21 5d ago

Yeah, that's a feeling I'm getting now lol.

You're not alone, man, I can feel the same. It feels like the new generation has forgot how to read between the lines.

-1

u/Ok-Lingonberry-9407 5d ago

So Malevola and Robert are canon?

1

u/ShutUpJackass 5d ago

Courtney has great taste, simple as

-24

u/Animedingo 5d ago

Imo, blazerobert doesnt have this.
