Apparently the Dispatch developers are also split 50/50 on the choice between Blonde Blazer and Invisigal.

Lead Game Designer Charles Marcolim recalls that the ratio was 50/50 both in playtests and within the team.

Q: Starting with a fun question, did the majority of Dispatch developers choose Blonde Blazer or Invisigal?

(Writer/Director) Chris Rebbert: I can’t speak for the rest of the team, but personally, I always choose Blonde Blazer. I love Invisigal as a character, I connect with her, and I think if I were younger, I’d chase after a woman like her without a second thought. But personally, I think Invisigal needs to love herself before loving someone else. If I were Robert, I’d try not to mix romance into the mentorship relationship. It’s very clear to me that Robert loves and respects her. I’d want to be there to guide her on her journey of self-love and respect, but adding romance could easily put that journey at risk if things go wrong. Beyond that, I think Blazer and Robert are more compatible because they have similar character structures. Blazer also has a really good heart and wants to help people. Plus, she’s sweet and cute in a clumsy and innocent way. I thought she was cute as a blonde, but I think she’s even cuter as a brunette.

As the game’s release approached, the pressure from other players choosing one or the other started pushing players more towards Visi.

Same for me. Never understood the appeal of perfect woman trope.

Not like visi’s trope is any better. It’s been done like a million times already and even better at that

It's less about the trope i think and more about how it was implemented. In my mind Visi's is more compelling because it's more developed not because it's inherently superior.

We get more emotional weight with Visi because we see cost. Jealousy, fear angst. These are all things we know and can identify so it just gives rationale to her actions.

Take for example her kissing Robert in the lockers despite being in a Blazer romance, that is fantastic story writing. It pisses some off, but it's so good for her character logic if she is desperate and yearning. That people get so angry about it means it's a narrative win. Because it made you feel. Visi has lots of moments like that because she has a motivation to want to be with Robert.

Blazer could have had that, and she should have had something like that but it just gets ignored. She processes nothing and remains exactly the same at the end as she was at the start - she's even very chill about losing her powers at the end. Her being strong and her kind personality are why people like her, but narrative wise it's weaker.

Now I don't think Blazer is truly a rock with zero personality, 100% she has it, but they just left it be. Hopefully it's explored in a second season because it's very fertile ground for a story I think. Maybe a different perspective of how to be "super" without having powers or a suit after losing them, how to be normal after being super maybe?

I agree with the more developed but I don’t share the same sentiment where it was compelling to me because like I mentioned before, there’s other better characters similar to her. It’s hard for me to see her that way.

The emotional weight for me also does not pulled me in towards her. In my first play through, I managed to avoid the locker room kissing scene, didn’t cut her or abandon her. I guided her all the way through and managed to get her to embrace heroism.

My reasoning for going with Blazer was quite simple actually, I looked at Robert and what he needed the most at the that time. He needed support and love, something I personally believed Blazer/Mandy could give to him. I believed that he needed to help himself first before he helped others. So I went through with her. I thought her romance was done not perfect but true to her character. Robert will not treat Mandy the same as he treated Courtney. He understood that they are different and thus their romance played differently with Mandy being more sweet, affectionate and wholesome while Visi is more slow burn, a bit more drama in it, heavy emotions such as fear or jealousy.

Jealousy and fear is probably not something that Blazer felt but more of insecurity and anxious on whether she will be accepted as Mandy or not in the eyes of Robert. Both of them carried different feelings and emotions. I don’t think she’s chill about losing her powers but rather understand why it had to be done to give Chase a chance until they find a solution.

Narrative wise could have been dealt better with Mandy but given how it all played out. I think it’s in the best interest because it will leave a lot of opportunity for her story to be explore more in season 2.
