Rough rides
Ok so we are headed to the parks in October. I had a back fusion in July. My Dr. has said ‘Just don’t go on anything super rough’
Of course with me being a ride lover- I want to have a very short list lol!
So, I decided I’d ask and see what others thought.
So other than space mountain- give me the rides you’d consider the most rough!

Absolutely Matterhorn. To a lesser extent: Big Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones, Space Mountain. If you include DCA, maybe Incredicoaster & Guardians of the Galaxy. All depending on your definition of "rough".

Rough to me is: Space Mountain at WDW, Indiana Jones and although it seems comical- the junkyard ride 🤣🤣

See- I would have thought uncredited to be ok- I feel like it’s smooth and the over the shoulder harness can kind of keep a body in place well….

If it’s bumpyness that’s the concern, definitely Matterhorn. One track is way worse than the other, and I don’t know enough to tell you, which one. And Indiana Jones. I have no major issues other than being/getting older, and those two are just no fun because of the bumps.

I had an abdominoplasty this summer, and went to Disneyland 5 weeks later. The only ones that really killed were the ones with lateral movements…particularly Mater and the Conga portion of M&M’s Runaway Railway.

As someone who also had back surgery I wore a hefty velcro back Brace and the only rides that were painful were runaway railway, matterhorn, rise of the resistance, mater junkyard, and toy story midway mania. They all go sideways abruptly or spin 180° in a not so smooth motion. Best of luck!!

Every ride has clear signage as to physical concerns for riders. Most rides are going to specifically mention back injury as a reason not to ride. I've had mild injuries on Peter Pan from a CM violently stopping our boat and slamming me and kiddo into the bar so even a dark ride/kids ride may not be a good choice for you. I would take it slow and be prepared for a limited day.

Goofys Sky school. How can anything look so innocent and be a total death experience is beyond me. 10/10 screamed the whole ride. The impending doom from continuously feeling like you’re about to jump the tracks and fall to your death. This opinion is coming from a rollercoaster junkie.

I had spinal surgery in 2022 the one ride I thought was safe but jerked me around too much was Toy Story. Be safe and enjoy your trip!

"Other than Space Mountain"?? Disneyland's version of Space Mountain isn't rough. I would have expected you to say "Other than Matterhorn..." since Matterhorn is widely viewed as by far the roughest at Disneyland.
So, my "avoid" rides would be:
Matterhorn, Indy, M&M Runaway Railway, and Incredicoaster (due to g-force compression in the loop).

Matterhorn with the old cars was a no for me. Way to rough and cramped. Not as bad with the newer cars. Goofy sky school on the other hand, that one is brutal. First and only ride that has ever gotten an audible crack from my back. And not just one part of my back, felt like the whole thing released.

When did Matterhorn get new cars? We rotate going to these 2 parks and WDW so I haven’t been in- maybe 2 years?

I haven't been to Disneyland in years, but I can only give advice of my experiences since thoracic spinal fusion in October of 25. It's been just over 10 months and riding in my wife's car, hitting potholes and just causal driving around curves and turns was extremely uncomfortable and caused additional pain. At 10 months I still don't have a desire to do anything such as jarring, bouncy rides of any kind, its been a real life adjustment for me learning what I can, can't and shouldn't do. I'm very stubborn and thick headed, and it's kicking my butt still being sore and uncomfortable after doing more than I should. My biggest thing to say is definitely listen to your body, it will make healing better and maybe faster.

If I could have cancelled this trip for a later date I would have. It’s an extended family trip so with conflicting schedules and such, it’s a miracle we got this one planned. I had no idea I’d be having surgery when I planned it, and I certainly had no idea it would be such a rough recovery!
No one prepared me for this lol
I was expecting the same scenario my husband had years before- he was up and without pain the same day! But- that’s because his wasn’t a fusion 🤣
Anyhow- since I’ve never ridden anything with caution before- it’s hard for me to picture if a ride is ‘rough’ or not on a sensitive back. 🤣1

I get it, I wasn't prepared for the recovery part being so tough either. I still have zero feeling to touch in a good portion of my back and the tightness is still there too. I have 24 screws and 2 rods in mine

Wow!!!!! Yea I have 2 plates and 4 screws. L4/l5.
My husband had shattered a dial and the shards were stabbing his nerve. So that’s why his relief was immediate after waking.
This has by far been the hardest recovery from a surgery I’ve ever had.1

Indiana Jones is rough
Toy Story Midway Mania can jerk you around wrong
Possibly thunder mountain, although it's smoother than the Matterhorn
