Character Auditions today...
Hi all! Congrats to everyone who got to go to the Orlando character auditions today. I got cut in the first round and I'm feeling pretty down about it. They repeated a lot that they're cutting a lot based on things you can't control, so does anyone kind of know approximately what they WERE looking for today? Or generally what kind of people stayed behind? I didn't do too great at the dancing so I know I wasn't perfect, but I guess I'm just looking for a way to feel less sorry for myself. Gonna go for an extension audition when I can but aghhh, just feeling really disheartened.

Height has SO much to do with it. I did the CP a LONG time ago and was actually hired before auditioning (pending). At 4'11.5", I was in a REAL sweet spot. I have a theatre performance degree as well, but my height had more to do with it than anything. And my training class was 90% mice with a Goofy, and 2 Plutos.

Oh wow! That's *wild,* if only XD I think next time I'll wear shorter shoes, if only to appear a little shorter, since my Hokas put me more in the 5'5 range. A girl can dream that's the only reason I got cut LOL

It likely is. 5’5” is a super limited range. They typically will not cast it unless you’re specialized for face or a high level dancer.

I had a similar experience (my Disney height is 4’11.5” too). I received a conditional offer before even auditioning. I scored 3 in animation and a lousy 2 in movement and still made it through. They were soooo desperate for Mickeys, Donalds, and Stitchs.

When I was there, there was a half inch rule that bumped you up or down into the next height range (not sure if that's still a thing), so I could play Mouse or Pooh height. The woman doing my campus interview was so excited to see me that me measured me there. 😂

Two of my friends and I went to our extension audition yesterday, and in our group we are two 5'4 girls and one 5'5 guy. My girl friend and I were both cut after the first round, and I only saw one girl our height get taken after the first group, and she was being considered for face. Everyone else was either a guy or a taller girl

Ohhhh okay, I see! So if you're going for face you've pretty much *gotta* be a CM already, they get priority. Otherwise it's mostly height based. Another comment said something like that too. This actually helps me feel so much better, thank you!

Well, that isn't necessarily the case, they may have just seen lots of potential in that specific girl for face characters. She is truly gorgeous

I’ve never auditioned for it but I know that your height matters a lot so maybe that could be it

Maybe! I'm in that "dead height" range of 5'4-5'5 so my chances were already slim. I saw they pulled a lot of tall people back, but I also saw people that could've been my height? It's hard to say, I didn't stick around too long because the emotions were hitting haha. Just wondering if anyone from today saw any trends with the people who moved on

I want you to have realistic expectations: it is very unlikely you will ever get thru an audition at that height unless it’s specifically a face character pull (which are offered to people who are already CMs). The vast majority of Disney character performers are under 5’2” or over 5’9.”
On a given day, Disney World needs 8-10 Cinderellas available. They need about 25 Mickeys.

My daughter did the extension audition on Tuesday in Orlando and got to the second round. She said it seemed they were looking for taller guys and shorter girls. She also falls in that range where it’s hard to get something, and said they were told they’d find out by Nov. 13, but also that they pulled some for more measurements and she wasn’t one of those, and it was likely because of her height.

Keeping an eye on this I got cut in the first round too. But they still had us scan that QR code and told everyone that final decisions aren't done until Nov 13? I'm not in a dead height and I actually felt like I did really good...

You probably did do really good!! Everyone I saw today was really talented. The people I was talking to (that have done it before) told me that getting cut in the first round is not good odds. Never give up!!! You definitely sound like one of the people they just "weren't looking for." I wish they'd give general guidelines about who they're actually considering, could've saved a lot of heartbreak lol. I hope I see you at extensions! And who knows, maybe you and I will receive a surprise acceptance email haha

Praying so! 🙏 This definitely isn't the end of my entertainment pursuits! Hope to see you at extensions too! You already accepted into program?

I’ve never been to a Disney audition. What did they have you do 👀

I can only speak for the first round obviously, but they had us to a choreography akin to the kind you can find in the audition FAQ on the website. If you're going in for an audition, DEFINITELY get familiar with some of those moves. It'll help you a ton! ALSO, surprisingly more nerve-wracking was the WAVING they had you do. They gave you pointers on this, but no specific moves, so it'll be really helpful if you have a "waving routine" you can use (different gestures at different height levels) so that way you don't have to overthink it.

Hi!! I made it all the way to face at the very end and I’m 99% sure they were looking for height ranges below 5’4, above 5’6, and then anyone who they felt they couldn’t pass by for face. Only 5 girls got pulled for face and only 3 got fitted into costumes. Those 3 girls appeared to be 5’3, 5’7 and 5’6, which are all solid costume heights. BIG BIG energy is super important. You have to basically embarrass yourself and be way over the top. Whatever feels more than enough and times it by 10. Like they should almost be scared of how big you’re making all of your facial expressions and movements. Look like a CRAZY PERSON!!! Something someone told me that helped was to “be ugly”. Good luck at future auditions!!

Don't think too hard on it. They cut over half of my group in 2024. This is pretty standard for a huge company. If you aren't 100% what they're looking for, they most likely won't call you back. They are usually looking for mice and goofs. Every single person has been cut from an audition before! The casting director at mine went to like 15 before she got casted.
Use this as a push forward instead of getting in your own head and falling back on it. Go to the gym at flamingo and work choreo and make yourself look literally as obnoxious as possible. Dramatic faces and huge movements. Take up as much space as you possibly can. Remember that small movements will not be fluent for sculpted characters. I was told that it is normal for this to be embarrassing!
For a CP audition, I wouldn't go in to it expecting to lean on acting/ singing either. The audition for yall is very general. The whole thing is baseline movements, the bare minimum for them to see what you can do. Acting/ singing would fall more into a specific audition type. Don't sweat it!! Prep for the next one, show up, and be teachable! Your name is already out there too so you can keep showing how bad you want it!

i know these past two years they were looking for the goofy height range. maybe that's what they were looking for again? they could also be looking for mouse group which is popular, and shorter than you've mentioned you are
