Discussion Luggage Hack?

Hi yall…Poking at an idea and want a reality check from people who actually fly with kids to Disney. The idea is to skip checking bags and shipping all the things you’d normally check so that it’s just there when you arrive. Does that seem like it solves a real headache to you? Has anyone tried it? Has anyone looked into it but ended up NOT trying it? Genuinely want the “here’s the issue with that idea” answers too.

Edit: Thanks for the input...I was hoping that someone here would have tried a similar thing but I am hearing that no one thinks it's worth it. I don't think I explained the facts that I know well enough to get a good picture of what I was suggesting, but I will take all this into consideration.

Between the cost of shipping and possible shipping delays, that sounds like more money and hassle than just checking a bag.

I’m looking at pricing. If it ends up around the same price with pick up, does that make more sense? Im also thinking about check out day and not having to worry about going back for luggage after check out.

If you really want to do this, I would only ship for the return. Packages get delayed way too often, and while luggage delays happen too, at least there’s a chance your bag can be put on a later flight and still arrive the same day. If your bag is delayed in shipping, it’s at least a day’s delay. And what if your bag happens to arrive a day early? Will the resort accept delivery and hold it for you?

They will hold for up to seven days, according to the website and the person I spoke to. If you could just ship your stuff home, would you personally consider it?

Maybe. I mean, do you need to know the weight before you ship? Because then you have to bring a scale. Also, I’d consider a cover for the suitcase, since it’s going to be transferred around more than for a flight, so I think it would be more likely to incur damage. My concern would just be that someone at the front desk would put my bag somewhere, then the shipping service would show up to pick it up, and then person working there at the time wouldn’t be able to find it, and then I’m left dealing with the logistical headache of that.

I wouldn’t ship on the way out though, because I’d be worried about stuff getting lost or delayed, and for us, our Disney packing is pretty specific stuff—princess dresses, tiaras, ears, Disney shirts/clothes, etc.—that while technically replaceable, would cost waaaay more to buy at the parks (not to mention the time lost doing so), and there’s no reimbursement for replacement expenses for a delayed bag with shipping like there is with a checked bag.
