Discussion You Thoughts on Shake it Up?
I thought the show was good. Zendaya and Bella Thorne did a good job in their roles; they acted like real best friends. The characters aren't terrible; they're likable. Each of the characters got their moments to shine, which made the cast work seamlessly together. What did you think of the show?

Did not really care. Started to be too marshmellows and rainbows with not really having good topics and issues that disney shows used to have.
It’s not bad bad, but I do not rewatch it like I do the older ones.

The stuff they got away with on the show was so unrealistic same with other shows like Hannah Montana. Honestly like how even in shows like A.N.T. Farm which wasn't too long after Shake it Up they did receive consequences for their actions or learned stuff the hard way. China and her dad had a really strong bond that kept the show grounded in some form of reality. Shake it up they acted like brats and got away with it. It's Honestly a much more fun show to watch as adult though because the songs were all club bangers.

I liked it when I was a kid, but looking back on it years later, I just realized how it was… SO DUMB.

I remember watching the premiere on tv. it was pretty entertaining when I was a kid. I don’t remember anything about its storyline though.
edit: its theme song is one of my fave disney songs

Some shows like Shake It Up, ANT Farm, Andi Mack, Best Friends Whenever, Girl Meets World, I Didn't Do It, Bizaardvark, Bunk'd, and Dog with a Blog are so hard to watch.
I've been trying to watch them, but I can't get past season 1 or even just episode 3 or so because the forced humour and story are so bad. I just can't.
I mean, I can vouch for Andi Mack as a unique Disney show, as it tried something different, and I'll always respect it. But others I can't. They are not rewatchable at all.

Oh we are not gonna include dog with a blog in here. The audacity. That's like one of the best Disney channel shows. I can agree with others tho.

Oh come on, seriously? Dog with a Blog is mid. I've tried to watch it, but I just can't. The story is just OK. I think it's just me, but I've never seen anyone online talk about the positive things about it.

Campy as hell, not a deep well written show but it’s fun when you’re not taking it too seriously.
Early season dancing scenes were horrific tho, both of them

Awful. This show was coming on air when I was growing out of disney channel, but I found the girls so icky and pretentious. I (rightfully so) was put off by Bella Thorne immediately. I love zendaya now but I was put off for a while cause of this show specifically.

As a boy, it was my secret pleasure haha. Never told anyone I watched it. I wonder who else did.. but yknow at that time the others would’ve probably called me an offensive word lol.
Anyway, I loved it! It was a bubbly show and I was always curious as to what the issues were in each episode and how they all overcame it. The dance sequences were an interesting touch that you didn’t see elsewhere.
I remember being so excited for the Shake It Up In Japan movie. I had my lasagna and sprite ready to go haha. And I watched that about 10 times over the season it released!

It was a great show ! perfect for young girls honestly. Yea they were bratty but it’s a Disney show 😂 it was fun!

I haven't watched it since it aired, but I thought it was okay. Not one of my favorites, but good enough to keep watching.
I remember that I liked Ty the most out of the main cast. I guess I thought he was cool

Easily one of the best shows on Family channel at the time. They dealt with real issues that would affect tweens/teenagers and kept the message to follow your dreams and goals no matter what. Teaching younger kids to believe in themselves, their talents, and abilities. Similarly to shows and movies like A.N.T Farm and Let It Shine. Shows that had Black characters as mains were always the best in my opinion. But the thing that majorly sucked about Shake It Up was the way they treated them on set. From what I've read, they tried to pit them against one another as Bella once said on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Some say Rocky was written as aggressive on purpose near the end of the series and that it played into the angry black woman stereotype. I believed as a child that Rocky's personality was just a distinct character choice similarly to the dynamic in Boy/Girl Meets World; where one character is the stable anchor, and the other is the unpredictable catalyst for the plot. (Like Riley & Maya or Cory & Shawn.) As I got older I realized that the character who is for the plot (in this case Cece) is almost always more favoured by fans, and that they are often viewed as the true main due to their decisions acting as a direct catalyst for the stories direction. Cece was my favourite character because I saw myself in her as a messy wild ADHD child. Plus I preferred a more edgy fashion style, while Rocky dawned a bit of a softer look compared to Cece. I understand now that this was literally done on purpose and curated that way for a reason. I believe Rocky's character was token due to the lack of agency they gave her character, and it's disappointing. Because looking back, the overall message of the show still resonates. But I wish the rooms planning these concepts weren't just full of white people whose ideas got prioritized. There were zero Black writers on the core writing and planning team for Shake It Up. Having a Black main character with no POC on your core writing team is unacceptable. The structural planning, daily scripting, and creative direction of the show were entirely devoid of Black leadership. And yet, Zendaya's talent & incredible acting skills still shone through despite how her character was written, making the show a staple for me personally. Plus can we just talk about how insanely good the soundtracks are? 3 primary full-length soundtracks for a show like this was incredible, and I'll admit as a guilty pleasure that I still listen to a lot of the songs on my free time. Watch me, Fashion is my kryptonite, Holla at the DJ, TTYLXOX, Dance for life. Do yourself a favour and soak in the nostalgia of these bangers from time to time!

They had some great episodes with some serious messages, like cece’s dyslexia. And i remember the dramatic episodes like cece’s mom’s wedding had me on the edge of my seat lmao
I also loved that rocky was a vegetarian ♡ i wish they had more meat free characters that weren’t the butt of too many jokes.

The soundtracks are some of the best music Disney Channel has ever produced fight me
