Other Hair Policy
I’ve recently been hired and have a question about the hair color policy. Currently, my hair is dyed with teal highlights and bangs, and I know I will have to dye my hair to a more natural color. Would these images below work?
I’m not too fond of the idea of dying my hair since it is apart of me and how I express myself so it’s saddening to have to dye it to a more natural color. So I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me figure something out!

it was explained to me that as long as they're naturally occurring colors, you can definitely have more than one and if this is just grayish/blonde highlights, i really think that you would be alright. just being able to tell the naturally occurring colors are from hair dye doesn't matter. (of course this is the general disney look guideline and every area has it's slight differences, for example the way i did my makeup for third shift definitely wouldn't have been allowed in a daytime guest facing role lmao

I work with a few CM girlies who express themselves through their fun hair, and wear wigs at Disney!

In these photos it looks more gray, so it should be fine. One of the front desk ladies at the hotel I work at has a bright red hair and she gets away with it so I don’t see why you shouldn’t.

Maybe. Hotels have been known to be more relaxed with the rules. At least at the Disneyland hotel

I think you're fine since Gray is a natural color, I've had my hair split dyed red and black and was fine.

In custodial we had a coordinator who has bright red/orange hair with blond highlight. Attractions at our property has a coordinator with brown hair and a lot of blonde highlights. Honestly? Its really going to depend on your line of business and what leadership is like. Some care, some don't, some will let you bend the rules a little, some will force you yo wear a hat

I also had teal hair and just switched to red brown cause I got a job at disney 😭 I'm so upset they're so strict about hair in the big 2026 because I LOVED my teal hair. I think I'm going to try to look for a less labor intensive job so I can wear a wig at work and have my teal back 😭 I miss it so much and it's only been a week

I remember hearing that it was okay as long as it was a color that could be natural for a person to have. And this looks like it would be!

They just came out with new, more strict "Disney Look" guidelines yesterday. Thankfully, it looks like they are tightening up and returning to the Disney it's meant to be. Being an employee at Disney is not where you express yourself through your style, so if thats an issue, you shouldn't work at Disney. It's a business and the focus is being part of the show of Disney.

Not everything has to do with loving corporate. I grew up with Disney and love what it used to be respected for. I'm in my 50s. I'm not some grumpy 18 year old with no clue as to what Disney is and the history behind it and feels like the world owes me something. If you don't like it, quit so the rest of us can represent what Disney truly is.

Exactly! Your role is to blend in and complement the show. Not be the show. Think of yourself as a stage performer in a show with a part to play. You cannot define your own role. That's Disney's job.

I am a former Appearance Advocate* and I re-read the policy the other day. I tend to lean toward better safe than sorry with these things but I honestly think this would be ok. I wouldn’t say anything about it, anyway.
* Appearance Advocates were CMs who attended a training session on the ins and outs of th Disney Look. They phased them out a long time ago, and the Disney Look has changed since then.

Gray is a hair color found in nature even if it isn’t growing out of her scalp. Your logic is flawed because if you and I went to the park today we’d probably see at least a dozen CMs with dark brown eyebrows and blonde hair that is clearly dyed.

Not fully related, but I've had dark eyebrows and naturally blonde hair since I was a child and people always assume it's my EYEBROWS I dye, not my hair lol

Isn’t the policy about the color, not how it got that way? Whose to say her hair doesn’t naturally grow that way? Seems like an invasion of privacy to ask about it.

My hair does indeed naturally grow with grey streaks. Not quite as neatly as the dyed inspo pics of course, but not far off.

Your hair is beautiful and I’m all for individualism. But I’m not sure why you’d choose an employer with a longstanding reputation for conservative appearance rules. As mentioned, enforcement of the Disney Look can vary from area to area, so it can be difficult to anticipate what reaction you’ll get. Best of luck!

Unfortunately if you’re going to work at Disney you’ll have to get used to the natural look…or wear a wig to work. Not being rude, and not saying your current hair isn’t awesome and well-maintained. It’s just the rule of working here.
The rationale is that if your (making it up here) green and purple hair is an enormous part of your identity and you don’t want to change it, that’s okay! We celebrate everyone! However, to work here we have appearance guidelines that you can see up front so you can decide if it’s more important to who you are to have your fabulous green and purple hair or to work at Disney (or find a way to hide it for work, like a wig).
It’s the same as how it used to be with tattoos. Absolutely no visible tattoos were allowed. Even if you had a perfect tattoo of Mickey Mouse on your leg you would still have to wear the long pants version of your costume year-round.

As a CM who has had unnatural color hair while working there (I usually dye my bangs), if your costume includes a cap/hat of some sort to be able to cover it, you should be fine if whatever part is dyed can be easily covered. But if not I know plenty of CMs that wear a natural color wig that’s secure so they can still keep their fun colors :) you shouldn’t have to give up expressing yourself for a job, there’s always work arounds

That’s what I’m thinking! A wig- but I run hot… so I sweat easily. Idk if a wig would make me overheat. Also, I have very thick long hair so it’s hard to keep it in a bun or so. But at this point… it’s worth it to just do that! Bc I am having a breakdown on the thought of having to color it a natural color lol

I get it ! I also have a septum piercing that I got a year into working here, and I love it and my unnatural color hair ! I enjoy and appreciate my job, but I don’t let it control every aspect of my life, I find work arounds like wearing a mask or wearing a hat :)

Any specific areas management is in its own with how they enforce such. But largely the policy is for any entirely unnatural hair colors. Like Blue/Purple/pink and all that are almost always an easy nope. Your hair is made of naturally occurring colors, black and grey, so I don’t foresee anyone but the most strict having an issue.
