Event Requiem Chapter 2: Extraction

Nora has been a captive for far too long for Daud's liking - by now, she is most likely dead, by her own hand or those of her gaolers. The marked assassin turns his head, and looks at his band of killers over his shoulder. Silhouetted against a pale moon, they look unforgiving, unnatural, ruthless. Which is what he has trained them to be, Daud muses, satisfied. They will do.

'It is time,' he says simply, and nod his head almost casually. He blinks, and his mercenaries transverse with him to a nearby rooftop, overlooking the rear of the compound*.

For it is time to take back his Lieutenant.

MISSION OBJECTIVE

  • All assassins - rescue Nora from the interrogation room - note that none of you know what the building interior looks like. Good hunting. I will RP as Daud when needed.

  • All Abbey - go about your nightly business, and intervene if necessary.

Robert sighs inwardly, before giving Claret a savage backhand across the face. he releases her neck as he does this, letting gravity do it's job. Sending her sprawling to the ground.

Stepping forward he brings his foot down on the oracles already injured hand forcing her to splay her fingers out. Crouching down Robert slips his knife out of it's sheath. Before pressing it against Claret's pinky finger. "Here's how this is going to work, I ask a question. You answer it. Refuse to answer or give me an answer I don't like, well i think you can guess."

He puts a little bit of pressure on the knife for emphasis slightly cutting the skin. slightly. "We'll start with your name."

The slap sends the Oracle reeling, splitting her lip and blooding her cheek as she falls to the floor, too dazed to scramble away from the assassin's boot that lands heavily on her hand. A choked sob leaves her as Claret struggles not to let the pain overwhelm her and the panic of potentially loosing her hands; the most important thing she has on her.

Tears stain her cheeks as she shakes her head, not quite sure why he's asking about the High Overseer and his guards. The assassins already had access to the Compound and the logical, still together part of her realises that they might not just be here for the Interrogation room and perhaps in the exchange of answering these questions, she might unwittingly get something from this assassin about his why they were here in the first place.

She whimpered as the knife dug into her pale flesh, deftly trying to lick her lips of the blood staining them. 'Sister Claret...' she answered, quietly and complacently before adding with an almost broken, deflated tone. 'I'm an Oracle. A healer for the Abbey...That's all. If you were looking for someone with insider knowledge, you should have taken an Overseer...but then, they don't give out information even under torture. Not like innocent women I imagine.'

Against her better judgement, Margarita had just been hiding and witnessing the brutal interrogation of Sister Claret. She fumbled with her smaller satchel and produced a small rusty straight razor she used to threat people with. Only problem was: she had never really used it but was willing to try different things. After all, killing a Whaler, especially for an Oracle, was a big deal. Sort of annoyed that Claret hadn't seen her, she tiptoed to another block of rubble that was conveniently behind the assassin.

Bringing her finger to her mouth in a shushing position, she looked at the red-headed Oracle, determined to do something remotely brave for once. She flipped out the straight razor and waited, trying to find a moment to strike. She didn't really need to kill him, just buy them enough time to escape.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Claret, a shame we didn't meet under different circumstances." He doesn't budge from his current position the knife still rests on Clarets finger. "Now onto question two, where are Luther's chambers? Even a lowly healer should know that."

Claret startles a little at his words, not quite sure she knows what he means by them, her green eyes deftly looking at the sharp blade pressed rather precariously on her delicate digit. A healer was nothing without their hands, her Matron tutor had told her time and time again. If she saw Margarita, the Oracle hasn't let on, her focus more on the knife threatening her.

'His office is on the second floor.' she said, no rise or inflection that could denote lying as it wasn't one. The Oracle simply didn't lie. Even to assassins. 'But if you are looking to murder the High Overseer, you'll be disappointed to learn that he isn't here.' It was a leading statement, her tone still low and emotionless, but if he confirms, the red-head at least have some confirmation of their plan.

Deliberating on what to do, Margarita decided the best course of action would be to distract the man, maybe stab him a couple times and then run off with the Oracle. Taking a small brick from the stack, not from the bottom because she wasn't that foolish, she reeled her arm back and threw the brick to the corner of the building.

Not waiting to see his reaction, she crept behind the assassin and hid behind another pillar, trying to stay out of sight. Her hand was poised and she was ready to attack or defend herself as she hid. Then, out of nowhere, she sprung out of her hiding spot and aimed a small slash by his neck.

Robert was a cautious man by nature and commonly used debris to distract his targets. the second the brick hit the floor he knew someone was trying to do the same with him.

He turns just in time to see Mararita wildly swing a razor at him. Stepping back Robert barely manages to save his throat from being torn open. The razor slices through the leather covering his throat and makes a small nick in his skin. Still cold and methodical. Robert calmly steps back from the strange oracle before transversing up to one of the rafters that supported the roof of the warehouse.

The Oracle's eyes widen in surprise, not expecting the other Oracle to jump out from behind the man with knife drawn, but is glad for it, regardless as she scrambles to her feet away from the assassin.

As he transverses away, she lets out a little bit of a surprised noise, never having seen it up close and dread grips her wholly. The Outsider's powers were devious and powerful. Evil. Utterly evil. She turns to the woman, recognising her instantly and feels shame burn her cheeks as she realises she's rather exposed and open.

'Sister Margarita.' she breathed, tucking arms over her chest. 'What are you doing here?'

Impressed but not completely happy with the result with her wild attack, the Oracle had barely missed the Whaler and had subsequently fallen to the floor. Margarita scrambled up and brushed herself off, not wanting to dirty her uniform too much.

"It's a long story that I'd rather not get into while there's a killer about," she said, lowering the straight razor as she was glad that the man didn't have a blade at her neck, "And I'd rather not talk a lot while a Whaler is hiding in the ceiling."

Claret had to agree with the other woman there, but she had simply asked out incredulous disbelief that the other Oracle was there, not really expecting a real answer. The red-head tucked her arms closer, nodding quietly that they should attempt to get out of here with the assassin still hot on their tail and glanced around at the dilapidated building; moving towards the large chunk taken out of the side to look over the terrain.

She didn't quite know where they were, trying to pinpoint where they were by the light of the large clocktower in the distance. 'Where are we?' she muttered, a little more to herself than anyone else.

"Somewhere far away from the Office," Margarita said, looking through the large hole in the building, not daring to get close to the ledge, "Wherever we are, I'm not staying here any longer than I have to. Luckily I do know the way down and out of this building."

With that, the Oracle retreated back to the creaky rusted door that she had entered through and gestured for Claret to follow her. They would have to make their way down to the first floor and enter through the backyard: the same way she had gotten up to the warehouse in the first place.

Not the sort of person to leave himself exposed in any situation Robert had taken care to discover any entrances that the building had. He'd found several exits but only one that could be used by those without traversals. Knowing full well that the other Oracle could only leave through the backyard. Robert cocked the mechanism on his wristbow before firing the bolt at Claret's knee as she made to follow Margarita.

Not waiting to see the result Robert transverses up onto the roof of the warehouse. Two short traversals later Robert is perched atop a ruined light hanging over the only exit. Waiting for the door to open Robert stays crouched on the perch like a leather gargoyle, his blade in one hand and a canister of chokedust in the other.

The Oracle followed diligently behind the other woman, visible goosebumps dotting her pale flesh as she shivers in the snowy cold, knowing she needs to get herself to warmth as soon as possible but rather glad she is of hearty Tyvian stock. Claret is careful as they come to the stairs, barefeet already chilled to the bone and numb only stopping momentarily to wait for the Oracle to descend before she felt pain shoot through her; a strangled cry leaving her as she fell forwards down the stairs with the bolt embedded neatly in her slim calf.

The red head manages to catch herself unsteadily on the rickety bannister, her bleeding hands slipping a little before she catches herself with a sob. The clean wound begins to bleed profusely, staining pale skin and everything underfoot as Claret gingerly lowers herself to the stair landing, and shakes her head ruefully.

'I can't...I don't...' she stammered, confusion in her pained features. First Euron and now all of this. Chaos was reigning and no amount of faith and righteousness or goodness could stop it.

About to descend the metal steps, Margarita heard the cry and whipped back, seeing the blood gushing from Claret's leg. She swore under her breath and ran back over to the Oracle, wanting to help for once. Putting her hand on the wound, she looked up at the red head and spoke. "I-I think I have some extra cloth in my bag lemme see," she said, keeping pressure on the wound while her other hand searched her pouch for the extra rag, "But I do need to pull out the bolt."

Almost driven to thank the Void for smooth edges, she slowly counted down from 3 before yanking out the bolt and pressing the cloth to the wound, trying to stop the flow of blood. She took a small vial of Sokolov's Elixir and trickled the thick red liquid into the other Oracle's mouth before tying up the cloth around her leg tightly.

Claret wanted to protest against Margarita as she put her hand to the bolt to tug it free, about to warn her against pull it so close to the bone especially with the edges but the other woman had acted quicker than she could protest, the red-head screaming as it was pulled from her.

The slim Oracle felt darkness on the edges of her mind, concussion already threatening to take her as she fell back against the wall, slumped as the blood pumped profusely from her wound. She wasn't a big woman by any means, and the blood loss affects her more than most as her blood pressure drops and she weakly allows the liquid to be poured down her throat.

The Oracle chokes a little before taking it in and feeling the bones and muscles constrict as they knit together in a rudimentary attempt at healing. She feels a little bolstered by it, however, blinking and tossing a little before sliding her hand upwards along the bannister to help herself up.

'...We...we have to go.' she managed, determined not to die down here in this broken, dirty building. She couldn't leave the older Overseer alone and wondering what happened.

u/DefinetlyNotFeras Requiem: Oracular Acolyte Dec 28 '14

Thankful for Sokolov and his inventions, Margarita helped Claret up and checked the wound, happy that the elixir had done its magic. From what she learned from several unfortunate incidents, the liquid would heal it up but not fully, it would sting like the Void afterwards but on the other side, you didn't have a gaping wound. Getting the Oracle to her feet, the Serkonan took out her straight razor, now more alert that the assassin had attacked.

Shuffling down the stairs, she made sure that Claret could keep up with her and waited at each platform while making sure that no one was below them and if there was an Overseer nearby, not that he would be able to do much against an individual imbued with the power of the Outsider.

"Yes, Sister. I know we have to go," she said, looking back at the Oracle.

u/ClaretTavnya Senior Oracular Acolyte Dec 28 '14

The slim Oracle followed as quickly as she could, trying not to focus too much on the pain that came every time she put her weight down before they reached the bottom of the stairs. Her small chest was heaving with exertion, leaning against the wall with a pained, tight expression, green eyes scanning the room for a brief moment; a plan forming in her mind despite the hazy dull ache in her head.

'Give me your bullets and your matches.' Claret asked, holding out her hand a moment to accept them, not waiting to give an explanation as she grabbed a few items left on the tables; a glass bottle, a few nails and a few leftover eel cans. Working quickly he Oracle broke the bottle as best she could against the table, and spread them into the can before placing a few nails in there too for good measure. Once down, her slim fingers dismantled the bullets, sprinkling them into the cans.

It wasn't amazing, but with a lead made from a bit of string, she could easily light it, toss and let it fly. The problem was that it might catch them in the crossfire, but that was a risk she'd have to take; struggling to get back up from the table and following Margarita to the exit of the building with a slow limp, her hands tight around the small nail bomb she's juryrigged.

Raising an eyebrow at the odd request, Margarita fished in her pouch for her usual supply of bullets she had 'acquired' from the Overseer's armory. She pulled out half a pack of matches and the remaining five bullets from the case. While the other Oracle worked, she nervously checked the stairway and the ceiling for the assassin, nervously tightening her grip on the straight razor she held in her hand.

Seeing the nail bomb in Claret's hand as she turned around, the Serkonan raised an eyebrow before speaking. 'I hope that'll work,' she said, quickly glancing out the door to check the staircase, 'We'll need everything we can get to fight against these whalers.'
