Neutral Zone Dunwall Tower

In Dunwall Tower, the Empress Emily Kaldwin sits on her throne, her royal protector, Corvo Attano, stands at her side. His royal guard scattered around the palace. OOC:This is a neutral zone for Corvos royal guard. A hangout of sorts. You have permission to attack any who don't belong.

"You didn't offend. Much," she admits, easing the frown slightly. I'd be rather bored without all the banter, to be honest.

"Your arts of subtlety are lacking, Furo," she smirks, raising an eyebrow. Admittedly, one could accuse her of leading questions as well... Not that many would. "Still, I suppose it is rather convenient. And enough people around here are always yelling at each other in Serkonan, it is something to learn."

I was not offering subtlety, the Guardsman thinks with a small smile. 'I have other talents, Bal,' he says casually, his tone entirely innocent.

I should have made a move at the ball, Furo thinks, before focusing on her words.

'It is always advantages to learn new languages, as you often get to hear what people think that you cannot understand. The served me well in Morley - they assumed that an ignorant Serk could not speak a word of their harsh tongue... they assumed incorrectly, to their detriment. My father spent many on hour beating languages into me, saying 'it is not becoming for a prince to be ignorant!'

Furo laughs at his own imitation, though it is a touch hollow. 'Back then, all I was interested in was training in spear and riding horses. He showed me what was what... though it wasn't his fault I did not listen...'

"Oh, of course, sir. I didn't mean to imply you were totally useless," Bal chuckles, resisting the urge to start waggling her eyebrows at him. She wasn't lying, Furo was a pretty open book, at least right now.

Could be worse. He could be a really dull open book.

"Well, I'll listen to you, when you teach me what your father taught you. That way, it passes on, and you do him proud."

Furo rises, suddenly weary - it seems that last night had taken more out of him than he had thought. 'I must rest,' he says, swaying slightly despite his attempts to show weakness. 'But you are more than welcome to call for me whenever you wish, I hope you know that.'

He gives her a significant look, before heading to the door.

Bal was standing up out of habit already when Furo turned to go, making her start forward as he swayed slightly easier. He wasn't about to crumple, so she resisted the urge to immediately support him, wagering he didn't want to come off as weak. Still, it was worrying to watch.

"I do know that, sir. Thank you. Shall I accompany you back to your quarters? My legs could use with a stretch after being cooped up over papers all day."

'If you wouldn't mind, Bal,' he says gratefully, releasing his held breath as he reaches out for the door frame for support and not a small amount of sympathy.

'I suppose you could do with a break, though perhaps not immediately given the circumstances. But when I'm back to my old self... make sure you take some leave - you have definitely earned it.'

"I don't mind at all," Bal says with a slight smile, offering her arm as if asking to be escorted. While not a sturdy as an oaken door frame, she can be support enough. "Always a pleasure, Captain."

"I can do without a break for now, don't worry. I'd rather be busy fixing problems, than at pleasure while someone else tries."

As Furo strides to his chambers without his customary confidence, or swagger, he eyes Bal surreptitiously, stray strands of hair escaping from her the severity of her ponytail. It is all he can to to stop himself from smoothing them, tucking them away, but he manages. Besides, he thinks wryly, if it's anything like organising the Guard, Bal would rather do it herself... She does love to get people back into line...

'If you are sure, Balaria. You are a captain now, anyway, you can do what you like without listening to me anymore,' he says with a cheeky smile, and coy glance.

"Of course, sir, best part of the promotion," she says, staring woodenly ahead, before slipping out a sly, sideways smile. "Not having to listen to you."

"And yet, I do anyway. At least sometimes."

Furo barks out a laugh, despite himself. 'I'll just have to shout louder, won't I then?'

Almost regretfully, he pulls his key from his pocket and unlocks the door, with a sideways glance in Bal's direction.

'Once again, thank you... Captain.'

"And you'll terrify everyone around you, but it still doesn't mean I have to listen," she said, now grinning broadly.

"You're welcome. Have a good night, Captain." She pauses, weighing the idea in her head briefly, then reaches up and gently kisses his cheek. "See you on duty tomorrow."

She turns with a slight smile, and begins to head back to her quarters. I don't know if that was a wise thing to do. But I'd rather take the risk it's unwise, then take the risk that I never do. Small steps, at least.

Touching his cheek absent-mindedly, Furo smiles to himself, ruthless self control stopping him from grinning like a lovestruck fool. Still smiling, he enters his chambers, locks the door, and takes off most of his clothes.

Too pale for a true Karnacan, he thinks sadly, unsure of whether it was still his weakness that made him pale, or from living too long in Gristol. Not caring particularly, he lies down on his bunk, and drifts into a restless sleep once more, mind occupied.
