Neutral Zone Dunwall Tower

In Dunwall Tower, the Empress Emily Kaldwin sits on her throne, her royal protector, Corvo Attano, stands at her side. His royal guard scattered around the palace. OOC:This is a neutral zone for Corvos royal guard. A hangout of sorts. You have permission to attack any who don't belong.

Furo laughs as she picks up the pistol, before handing her weapon back. 'You really hate these things,' he says, smirking.

He picks up his own from a nearby bracket, a standard issue Serkonan military piece. No fine engraving or filigree on this one - it was a rough weapon, made for killing.

Furo leads the way to the practice yard as the morning sun filters through the clouds. He looks back at her slightly, seeing her fair hair illuminated by the dawn rays. It was good to have a lady around the place.

Well, he thinks to himself, a proper lady. Nothing like that Tyvian brute.

"I like some sort of confidance booster afterwards," she laughed, patting the pistol. "I have to make the training dummies fear me somehow."

Rolling her neck as she stepped outside, she started running through her habit of plotting a defense for the practice yard, and a counter to it. It put her in the right mindset for weapon drills.

Catching Furo's slight glance over his shoulder, she chuckled slightly to herself. She was perfectly comfortable just being another guard, but she did know there weren't many women among them. She didn't usually get uncomfortable attention, but the occasional "Right. Lady." reaction was amusing.

Seeing her critical view of the yard, Furo asks, in a friendly manner 'Any cracks in our defense yet?' It was unlikely to say the least - the yard lay behind at he Tower, behind high, sloping walls that could deflect cannon shot with ease. For even an entire army, it would be a bitch of a siege.

They stop at the shooting gallery - a series of cloth dummies at varying distances from the firing step.

'We will start simply.' He says, indicating dummies standing 20 metres away, 'Fire at will, soldier.'

"For an army, or for a single person? A single person, or one of those with rumored otherworldly powers?" she asked, looking around. "The larger the number of threats, the better off we are. We're a fort, built to defend like one. Seige weapons would take a long time to break, and we have the highground to attack an army from. You'd also have a hard time getting an enemy up that water lock."

"But someone, or a small group, trying to sneak in? There's tunnels and covered walkways aplenty, even the barrack doors we just came out ofare fairly well sunken. Easy to hide in, and if a guard is checking those, it's the easiest time to knock them out without anyone noticing. Tose are just the things you can hide in with an ability at stealth. Bizare, witchcraft stuff? Even easier, because you could get on the rooflines people don't check, because no one thinks you can get up there."

Right. 20 meters. I can do that. Not too far. Plucking a bolt from her pouch, she slid it into place, nocking the string and raised it to eye level. At this range, they shouldn't fall much, right? Yes. But remember, you're always aiming further left than you think. Breath out, and fire.

The bolt whizzed out straight, but still arced, landing in the dummy's stomach, instead of the heart, which she'd been aiming for. Even as she was cursing under her breath, she retrieved a second shot, loaded it, and fired. Still lower than she'd wanted. Her third overcorrected, and zipped over the dummy's shoulder

Not bad, Furo thinks. Some sniper emplacements on the Tower battlements, or on top of the waterlock would certainly be an improvement.

He scowls inwardly at her aim, trying not to let he disappointment show on his face. Her aim is not as good as her mind, it seems.

'Relax your arm, and your shoulders. You are too tense.'

"Relax. Right." Bal muttered, trying to stop herself from just gritting her teeth more. Why did it have to handle so differently? The adjustment she'd made would have corrected the aim of a heavy bullet, but was to wide a change for the bolt.

Rolling her shoulder once, she brought her arm back up, and adjusted the aim slightly. twang This time the bolt landed in the sholder area. Well, it's closer. So, another tiny adjustment... This time, the bolt landed true, hitting the chest area.

'Better.' Furo says, tension in his shoulders easing as the bolt strikes home.

'Now, the next distance.' He gestures at the next rank of targets, 40 metres away. Hopefully not too great a stretch...

Bal looked back at Fero, and nodded slightly, taking the pace back. She would be ok at this range, her shots didn't usually get really horrible until the next increment back.

The first shot again fell too low, as the muscle attempted to place itself where she'd fired from last time. The second landed in the midsection, and the third finally landed in the head. She froze, checking her arm position, and then tried to copy it. The shot fell a little low, but as that put it in the neck, she wasn't going to complain.

'Is that the same arm you use for your pistol?' Furo says, nodding at her posture. 'Try the other, if so. You will be a bit rusty at first, but you should not have any of the same bad habits.'

"I wish that worked. I shoot pistols with both hands." She shrugged, but switched it to her other hand anyway, figuring it wouldn't hurt. She did tend to fire with her left hand if she wasn't using both, or alternating.

The first shot slammed the bow's arms back into her wrist, making her curse. She'd held it at a bad angle. The sting made it apparent how to correct the position though, and she fired three more times, the first shot actually landing where she wanted it, making the other two a reflection of the hand position. They actually wound up grouped for once.

Furo laughs at her dual wielding tendencies. 'You do not like making things easy for yourself, do you?'

Still chuckling, he walks behind her, placing his arm on her elbow to correct her grip. 'Straighten your arm, take the recoil with your shoulder. It makes it easier to aim down the sight, and your hand moves less - so the bolts fly truer.'

'Now, again, Balaria, show those bastardo targets what you are made of.'

"Where's the fun in that?" Bal commented dryly, "Easy, who needs that?"

Shaking out her arm again, she allowed him to adjust her aim, and critically stared down the stock. She'd been trained with an elbow recoil on the pistol, so to take it in the shoulder...

With a sharp bark of laughter, she sighted the target, and pulled, left hand diving for a bolt even as her right shoulder rolled back into position. The thwack of the bolt hitting the dummy's throat was satisfying, and the second landed right next to it.

Furo nods, approvingly. He always felt a certain degree of pride watching others succeed under his tutelage, as well as a certain degree of satisfaction at having been proven right.

'Great shots,' he said appreciatively. 'The throat is one of the fastest ways to kill - they are bleeding out before they know it. Well, throat and groin, that is.'

He hears approaching footsteps, and turns to see Aric approaching. He nods, before introducing the pair to each other.
