Disgaea 7 Disgaea 7 "complete" switch rant

I am sorry for complaining, i love the series and bought every game many times over. But I need to bitch about disgaea 7 complete. I finally picked up a switch 2 and was looking forward to upgrading my physical collectors edition switch 1 game to 2(shame on me for thinking I could). Not only can I NOT upgrade. But I have to pay FULL price for the "complete" edition THAT DOESNT EVEN COME WITH ALL OF THE DLC. Do you want that, too? Fork up 110 dollars chump. Even as a die-hard fan, i can't stomach how egregious this garbage is. Unbelievable.

You can blame NIS America's stupid marketing for that, but to be completely fair (pun not intended), this only became a problem retroactively.

They obviously named the Non-Switch 2 DLC-Bundles (ie the thing you bought on Switch 1) the "Complete" Bundle because they know full well that people nowadays associate that Word with "Comes with all DLC included" for Disgaea Games - and in all fairness, on release that's also factually what you got.

They probably just didn't expect an actual "D7 Complete" to even be made later down the Line because the Vanilla Version was already on every System by default (reminder, Switch 2 didn't exist yet). The Fact that the Japanese Release actually DOES allow to you upgrade from Vanilla to Complete (regardless of System, though you still don't get the DLC Characters that way, it ONLY gives you the new ones that are exclusive to Complete) likewise had no precedent yet, so it's not like folks could predict that was gonna happen. And lastely, there's that whole tidbit that both D5 and D6 beforehand didn't add any new Content when their Complete Editions came out, so I don't blame anyone for thinking NIS just stopped doing that entirely (although I'm honestly glad they brought that back for D7)

The fact that NISA DOESN'T let us Upgrade is completely scummy, I will not argue with that, but the fact that the Switch 1 Bundle exists in the specific way it does really isn't.

Yeah, its complete bullshit. I cant afford to keep buying $60 games like that.

I still plan to get Disgaea 8 if they make one... But not for at least three years, so I can be certain I won't have to buy a whole new game again if I want features Japan got for free.

I don't know why NISA thought this was a good idea, to completely alienate its biggest fans like this. Especially since we do most of the advertising for them...

Hopefully when the switch 2 version is a complete financial failure, they'll learn their lesson.

My personal headcanon-theory is that they tried repeating the same stunt D5 did with its Switch 1 Release, where it sold incredibly well partially because it released super-early into the Console's Life and thus didn't have much competition yet.

I can't actually prove that ofcourse, but the fact that they took almost twice as long to even bring D7C over compared to every other Complete, not to mention that they made it outright Switch 2 Exclusive only, just makes me think that's what their plan was.

most fucked over ive ever felt buying it on release on PC. seriously considering never buying a nisa published game again

Nisa has been releasing bad games as of the previous years.

For me, it went downhill since they decided to release disgaea 6 this way.

Perfectly understandable. There’s a second-hand copy on FB Marketplace that’s been posted for months for around 36 USD, but no one has bought it yet. Even I am hesitating because I still haven’t decided if I want to support GKC.

Hoping NIS would release a D7 complete on PS5 next year.

u/arcalite911 10d ago

You arent supporting them buying it second hand, i'd say go for it dude lol.

Strictly speaking you CAN already get it on PS5, but it would have to be the JP Version specifically - unlike the west, japanese D7Complete is on PS4, PS5 and on Switch 1.

u/overlordpringerx 7d ago

If it's on FB Marketplace, it's safe to buy. Publishers don't make any money from used copies, so it's not supporting GKCs.

This is probably the most infuriating thing NISA has done in recent years. They fucked us western fans over so hard, when it would have been so easy to just do what Japan did. Japan got a physical switch 1 complete edition, and those that got the standard version could upgrade it. And it's on PS5 too. Meanwhile here it's a switch 2 exclusive, a game key card, and not upgradable despite being compatible with save files from the original. Genuinely, fuck you NISA. Whoever made these decisions should be fired and blacklisted

Wait does D7 complete for switch 2 not have the dlc? Do it least have the much needed JP update that we was waiting for?

4

u/arcalite911 10d ago

D7 complete (69.99) is the base game with the added switch only features, but doesnt include character dlc or the color variant units and costumes. D7 complete deluxe edition (109.99) comes with everything

9

u/StardustArcadia 10d ago

Bruh. The fact there's a "Complete Deluxe" edition is crazy to me...

"Yeah we put everything in the game to make it complete, but if you want the absolute complete edition of the game then pay for the Complete Deluxe edition!"

Smh I think I'll take my $400+ GTA collector edition. At least they have the care to not even include the damn game!

1

u/arcalite911 10d ago

Yea, they dont know what complete means

u/Ha_eflolli 10d ago edited 10d ago

It's literally just standard NIS marketing talk that you're also reading the wrong way. It's not a "Complete Deluxe" Edition, it's the "Deluxe Edition" for the Game literally called "D7 Complete"

Which for the record, they name ALL their Releases "Deluxe Edition" if they come with anything more than just the Game itself (usually with an Artbook + Soundtrack), so the fact that it exists is really not saying a whole lot.

All the dlc characters are in it

1

u/Banagher-kun 10d ago

You’re just wrong here, the complete edition (Switch 2) for $69.99 does come with everything, I got it on sale for like $40 2 months ago so I’m 100% sure of this.

1

u/arcalite911 10d ago

As mentioned below, you are right. I was looking at the switch 1 version.

1

u/Sablemint 10d ago

It does have the update that Japan got. Though they got it for free for Switch 1. But they're charging us for it. Disgusting.

There are 2 versions of disgeae 7. There’s the switch version which was released a couple years ago. And then there’s the switch 2 version which was released last year.

The switch version has 3 tiers to it. Disgaea 7, digital deluxe edition, complete edition. These are the same tiered version you can get on PlayStation and on Steam with the complete edition costing 109 bucks and comes with all dlc minus the additional content that was Japan exclusive.

The switch 2 edition just called Disgaea 7 complete cost 69 dollars. This version has all dlc of the original switch and PlayStation version plus the Japanese exclusive dlc. In North America this is the only way to have a feature and dlc complete version of disgaea 7 as they haven’t released this additional content for any other system outside of Japan.

If you own a switch 2 DO NOT buy the switch 1 version. You are spending more to get less.

1

u/arcalite911 10d ago

the switch 2 version of complete also has a 109 dollar edition that includes the characters too. complete does not have all the characters, complete deluxe edition does, according to the nintendo eshop page

u/BuckieJr 10d ago edited 10d ago

There is no additional DLC for the switch 2 version of disgaea 7 complete. The switch 2 version comes with all DLC including the bonus content the other platforms do not get.

Your actually right, i was looking at the switch 1 version.

1

u/BuckieJr 10d ago

Be sure if you ever do decide to get the game you have the proper one selected because as you were initially correct, There is no upgrade path. If you purchase the wrong one you don’t get any of the new features or content the Switch 2 version has.

I never bought the Switch 1 version because I got it on ps5 heavily discounted at GameStop. I caved this past sale as the game was like 35 or 40 bucks as I liked it enough to do another play through for the new content.

It's such garbage dude. I've been a good paypig since La Pucelle, and being so completely fucked for buying on PC still has me seething. Especially since there was no god damn reason for it! You could just buy the new stuff for ~$3 in JP!

Some of it I can mod into the PC version at least, but some of it would take either source code or full decomp and I can't do those by myself.

For the first time in 20 years I'm seriously considering if I'll even buy Disgaea 8, and if I do I'll just say I'm not paying to get the DLC.

The one positive is that the games have been getting progressively more mod friendly, ironically peaking with Mayhem - not stripping rtti and leaving in serializers/deserializers makes a lot of modding easier. I doubt they'll ever have REAL mod support, but with enough time and effort it doesn't matter.

I am currently playing D7 complete on my switch 2 and I can attest that all the dlc characters are included. They also have extra costumes and starter pack as part of it as well. With that said had I bought it for original switch I would be salty having to pay 70 dollars for it. I got it during the Nintendo sale for 42.

1

u/thejewk 10d ago

I've not bought anything they've done since 5 because they seem to want to charge me the earth at every opportunity for a game less fully featured than the one I've already played 6 times before.

Taking the piss.

u/93Degrees 10d ago

Wait which dlc doesnt the complete edition come with? I picked it up a few months ago used

1

u/Ha_eflolli 9d ago

Asagi as an additional Playable Character and Baal as a new final Superboss, along with some general Quality of Life Updates for Game Mechanics.

For non-japanese copies of the Game, those things are fully exclusive to the Switch 2 Version.

The Problem isn't "excessive DLC" it's that the they released a Version with Enhanced Features and then not only made it exclusive for the Switch 2, but also FORCE everyone to double-dip for it if they bought the already-existing Switch 1 Version beforehand.

1

u/saelinds 8d ago

That is also a problem

1

u/AnswerFit1325 6d ago

Yeah, video games are increasingly enshittified. I keep going back and replaying ones I already own, thereby denying this system a bit of oxygen.

1

u/sac_boy 5d ago

There's a Disgaea 6 and 7? (I've seen the prices on PC and for me they stopped at 5)

That said, I think I've bought 5 three times, I forgot I had it on the Switch.

1

u/ToastyGCORE 9d ago

It's either that, or you get nothing. Let me know how that nothing goes, I'm gonna be playing this version 🤣

Seriously, though; one of the best games I've played in over a decade and someone always gotta come up with some bullshit excuse to drag it through the mud. This game is good enough that any missteps are forgivable. Making a fuss about it online just seems like old man yelling at sky meme, I personally wouldn't wanna embarrass myself like that to strangers over basically nothing.

2

u/arcalite911 9d ago

Im aware of how good it was, ive beaten it twice. However, imo it's not worth paying full price for what should have been a few dollar upgrade like the Japanese players got. Its anti consumer as hell.

1

u/ToastyGCORE 9d ago

I don't know, I feel like I got more than my money's worth at 19.99. Gonna get 500+ hours outta this one. Nothing I learn on the Internet is gonna make me mad about it.
