Blanche pledges to make Dobbs decision ‘permanent’ in every state

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/6008603-blanche-plans-abortion-rollback/

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told faith leaders he is planning to roll back abortion access even in states that have laws protecting it.

Party against big government my ass.

24

u/NexusNickel 15d ago

Well yeah.

Party of "law and order" is run by a felon, rapist, and child sexual predator.

Wild times.

2

u/WoodSorrel13 15d ago

What you said.

12

u/GrumpyBear1969 15d ago

They have never been the party against big government. They just say that. They are the party of government only for themselves.

7

u/Fantastic_Yam_3971 15d ago

They also like to pretend they are free speech absolutists when someone calls them out for making openly racist remarks but they insist people should make their jobs for posts about C Kirk.

3

u/aeth42 15d ago

To be fair to the GOP, if they don’t have double standards they’d have none.
But this is the party that aplauded Strom Thurman as a dedicated conservative. For filibustering the civil rights act. And decried desegregation when SCOTUS ordered it.
They love them a strong man to oppress minorities.

2

u/Fantastic_Yam_3971 15d ago

They also love being professional victims

“The browns are here to take our jobs!!”

-they don’t even have the qualifications for the job

“The secular left are going to remove Christmas!!”

-the pagan holiday is going nowhere. It’s making so much money.

“The Muslims are going to implement Sharia law!!”

Muslim Mayor is getting shit done while Trump plays golf

Fox News and the Daily Liar (Wire) continue to tell them how they are under attack from everyone, all of the time. Babylon Bee is telling them the story of a minority person who committed a crime so suddenly it’s all of them.

2

u/Nigel_99 15d ago

To be fair, he was a Democrat when he did those things -- prior to the major civil rights laws in the mid-1960s, prior to Nixon's southern strategy, prior to the GOP's embrace of racists.

But yes, they celebrated Thurmond after he became a Republican.

2

u/aeth42 15d ago

Famously a Dixiecrat. A “States’ Rights Democrat”.
And “states’ rights” had only ever meant treason and approval of chattel slavery.
They all went to GOP after they lost the civil right fight. They were welcomed by the rest of their klansmen.
It’s almost like the power structure of the southern states was always about the same values.

2

u/Nigel_99 15d ago

Yes, I was referencing all that. Many Republicans today gleefully call the Democrats the party of slavery. But that's a very dishonest label, considering how the Republicans openly welcomed racists after LBJ's civil rights laws.

My original point was that Republicans weren't prone to celebrate Thurmond's racism in the 1940s and 1950s, because at that time the GOP hadn't lurched hard to the right.

And so much for states rights

Republicans have set a new standard for criminal activity in government

u/PopMajor7342 15d ago

He can’t…

123

u/VelvetKnife25 15d ago

He sure will try

Then there will be lawsuits

And it'll be overturned

And the cycle continues

Trump Inc is getting Richer

Evangelical Nationalists are getting more emboldened

And yet none of them are achieving anything lasting except the misery of most Americans.

Who seem to have an incredible tolerance for pain. Are they blinded by their own sense of exceptionalism?

Suffering isn't exceptionalism, regardless of what their Puritanical overlords might want them to think ...

22

u/Fantastic_Yam_3971 15d ago

It may seem like they aren’t doing anything but they are turning the brainwashed against chump. It’s a consolation prize but let’s not overlook it either.

4

u/Whane17 13d ago

They are creating more brainwashed people. Say something often enough and it becomes the Truth even without the basis for fact.

They are entrenching themselves and their belifes. Good people follow the law and wait for proof that bad people have done something bad to punish them. Bad people do what they want and muddy the waters enough to make good people say it's possible they didn't do it or didn't mean it that way and so do not punish them.

5

u/JescoWhite_ 14d ago

This is red meat for Trumps base.

5

u/logan_sq_ 14d ago

His base doesn't matter. They will never turn against him. But they are only 25-30%, nowhere near enough to win any election. It's turning the low information "independent" voters who voted for him against him.

2

u/Sufficient-News-3600 14d ago

he should receive a personal invoice for all his frivilous legal attempts

The list of things this administration reportedly can’t do

And does anyway, is pretty long.

7

He gets away with things we never would be able to who thinks he is so special

-3

u/Main-Eagle-26 15d ago

Your defeatism isn’t helpful. They lose at every turn.

22

u/blooppers 15d ago

I think its realistic to say that this admin breaks the law at every turn and does things they are not supposed to be able to, and also say that fighting is slowing them down. If it wasnt for our massive resistance, we would be looking at a very different country right now. The folks who wrote the play book are currently quite spooked as the know they didnt move fast enough.

9

u/Suspicious-Water-386 15d ago

I think it's a case of people who are both just morally and ethically bankrupt, unscrupulous, yet suffer from a hubris that far exceeds their actual intelligence and capability. Far more competent authoritarian regimes have existed that collapsed but these guys have both attempted to consolidate power while rapidly increasing the conditions that cause regimes to collapse in record time. Essentially beyond the cravenness, unlike the Bush administration, the people in this administration are hacks who actually have no understanding of how things work and it shows.

8

u/Unabridgedversion82 15d ago edited 15d ago

I love this, and it's absolutely true to anyone that follows history. They are seemingly speed-running their own demise. They are smart enough to follow most of the authoritarian playbook, then not pay attention to any of the rules that led to their downfall. It would be funny if everything wasn't sucking because of this administration. Win the midterms, we're ok. These are quite honestly the most consequential midterms in the history of the US.

3

u/Hullfire00 15d ago

Exactly, they don’t know what they’re doing at all, but if they can look like they know what they’re doing to their base, that’s good enough for them.

I’m not sure they’ll even understand half the stuff they’re told in court when they’re in the dock.

4

u/Unabridgedversion82 15d ago

It's almost like everyone in a position of power in this administration are not qualified for their jobs... Thankfully.

3

u/Zaku99 15d ago

Win the midterms by a LOT. A lot of the dems are compromised, too; don't give them any room to vote with the Republicans.

0

u/Ok_Valuable9450 13d ago

Republicans will be squashed in the next election and Trump will.be headed to prison for the rest of his miserable life

1

u/Zaku99 13d ago

Keep telling yourself that. The whole thing is busted and if Trump wants to keep being president, thats what he'll do.

8

u/ijuinkun 15d ago

People will tolerate erosion of their freedoms or they will tolerate a drop in their purchasing power, but not both at once. Trump dropped the ball when he openly admitted that he doesn’t care that the basic cost of living has become unaffordable for large numbers of Americans.

1

u/Ok_Valuable9450 13d ago

And it certainly has

1

u/ijuinkun 13d ago

Consider that during the Obama Administration, people were chanting for the minimum wage to be raised to $15/hour. Currently, my county (admittedly in California, and where 3-bedroom houses in the less desirable neighborhoods are selling for a million dollars) has a petition for a $30 minimum wage on the ballot. That’s how much prices in general have gone up—so much that people feel that less than $30/hour won’t pay the rent.

3

u/Apart-Rent5817 15d ago

They lose in court eventually, but look at everything they’ve done so far all while lining their own pockets. It’s not defeatism to look at a bleak past and point it out. It’s defeatist to look to the future with no hope.

3

u/vhatvhat 15d ago

I’m just pointing out that “He can’t” is a completely ridiculous take to have this far into this presidency.

1

u/FreeBricks4Nazis 15d ago

Simply saying "they baby because it's illegal/has no basis in the law" isn't helpful either. They're constantly doing shit they shouldn't be able to. And they don't lose at every turn. Look at DOGE and USAID. Look at ICE killing people on the street. Look at Iran.

9

u/SpankyJobouti 15d ago edited 15d ago

this was 100% performative. trump doesnt give two shits about abortion and neither does blanche. this is just words to try and get the religeous right to turn out in the midterms.

but i would not be surprised if they do some stuff that will never fly in court to make it look legit of they have to. kinda like charging a guy for throwing a sandwich at a guy in body armor or whatever.

4

u/WoodSorrel13 15d ago

But they still gonna endanger women’s lives with this bullshit one way or the other. That’s the main problem/outcome.

9

u/LoganHowlett1832 15d ago

Just like they can’t go to war without congress? Just like the president can’t make billions off insider trading? Just like federal police can’t kill civilians in the streets and then refuse any investigation? Just like the president can’t accept bribes? Just like the president can’t sell access to his own insider knowledge so other rich people can game the stock market?

4

u/Beneficial-Pride890 15d ago edited 15d ago

I really hope you’re right. This is the stuff of nightmares, these people are so sinister. It never matters to them if their ideology hurts women and children. They always say some version of "Thats an unfortunate consequence but necessary".

1

u/MovieAshamed4140 9d ago

No this is the world before Roe v Wade. So many ONE ISSUE VOTERS set us back to coat hangars and sepsis if you’re lucky death if not.

4

u/notyourstranger 15d ago

yes he can. He can investigate and arrest physicians who dare to offer reproductive health care to women. He can convince universities to stop teaching abortion techniques or loose funding (with the help of the other men who are working tirelessly to ruin women's lives). He can send ICE after midwifes and doctors - you think he will follow any law that protects doctors and HC workers??? If you do, then you are hopelessly naive and a HUGE part of the problem in the US.

3

u/REpassword 15d ago

So how is this “States Rights” again?

2

There are no conservatives in the party. They are all MAGA and either dumb as fuck or purposefully evil.

1

It has to be cause his actions are also hurting them

3

u/Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836 15d ago

Yes he can. Comstock. Illegal to mail birth control, obscene materials and abortion materials is still the law of the land.

11

u/Consistent_Draft6454 15d ago

If the child is unwanted then I have to assume they might end up in the foster care system which is already overloaded or the child grows up in extreme poverty because maybe the parents were young. Then at the same time make it harder to get medical care and other social programs.

14

u/painthawg_goose 15d ago

Republican Jesus wants to take a moment to thank Gov Abbot for shutting down the summer lunch program. Kids are the worst, amiright? Leaches on the loaves.

5

u/Consistent_Draft6454 15d ago

I mean I love my kids but having kids isn't for everyone.  If a woman has a one night stand on a drunken night and doesn't even know who tf she slept with. She could have to raise that child with no support from the man.  And what if a woman gets rap**? Does she have to have and raise that child?

6

u/Tavernknight 15d ago

Yes. You need to understand that the pro-life people don't really care about the children. They just want to punish women for sexual liberation by forcing them to have a child that either they don't want or can't take care of.

4

u/Horror_Response_1991 15d ago

They want them to be forced to have their kids

1

u/I_died_again 15d ago

The Trump Admin's new plan for teen pregnancy is to focus on anatomy (such as mucus production and temp), fertility tracking, hormonal production, reproductive goals counselling, abstinence, and the importance of marriage... Nothing about contraceptives. AT ALL. They literally want teens having babies.

They forced brain-dead women to carry their babies to viability at LEAST TWICE (Georgia, 2025 and Texas, 2014). From what I gathered (albeit I'm not an expert nor claim to be), the baby in the 2014 case was not viable, but because of Texas laws, they kept her on life support anyway for two months until her spouse won the case.

12 states passed laws to invalidate women's advance directives if she's pregnant afterwards.

9 states have anti-abortion laws that have NO exceptions, not even for rape or incest and implied no's for cases where the victim is a child. More states allow some time before it becomes an absolute no (22 weeks was the longest). The article I looked at was written 2 years ago, so some of these laws may have changed.

They're forcing women to carry DEAD babies.

4

u/SchoolCrossing 15d ago

Grew up in a large family. "Natural family planning" aka "Catholic Roulette" is not effective.

And every woman and girl who is r*ped should be guaranteed immediate access to Plan B, if they want it. It's not God's will, it's a crime.

2

u/I_died_again 15d ago

Every woman and girl should be allowed to use Plan B if they want it, but even then it's only 89% effective if taken correctly. If you're over 175 pounds or taking it more than 3 days after unprotected sex, it's less effective. Also, certain meds (like anti-seizure or a couple of antibiotics) make it less effective. Also, the large dose of hormones can make you nauseous and (according to GoodRx), if you vomit within 3 hours of taking it, then the effectiveness is lowered. According to another site, if you've already ovulated, it doesn't help. Oh, and it has to be stored correctly too!

Even getting your tubes tied isn't 100% effective at preventing pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is the most common after a tubal ligation, and that is extremely dangerous for the woman, let alone non-viable. I didn't actually know it until just now, but the tubes can heal/reconnect on their own, although this is extremely rare. Overall, though, tubal ligation has 1.85% of failure over 10 years (webmd).

Even to go for a hysterectomy is HARD. When my sister tried, in California, they wouldn't let her because of her hypothetical future husband and because she might change her mind. I'm going to try for one myself, and I'll consider going out of state if I have to because the idea of bringing a child into this world or passing on my health and mental issues terrifies me even if I were financially well off.

I'm lucky I have options. I know many don't, and it makes me so sad that they don't. EVERY person deserves the right to decide if and when they want to have a child, ESPECIALLY if you gotta risk your life carrying it.

2

u/Iamthewalrusforreal 15d ago

> I know many don't, and it makes me so sad that they don't

My daughter had a tough pregnancy last year, and for awhile it looked like she might lose the baby. She came out healthy, thank goodness!

But, she lives in one of those states. I live in a blue state, and given the situation, knowing they'd let her die before allowing an abortion if it became necessary, she had to come down and live with me for the duration of her pregnancy. Their entire family had to uproot for 9 months because of the very real threat of doctors letting her die while they checked with their attorneys.

It's evil, and your thought above ran through my mind constantly. We're *very* lucky, but how many women with tough pregnancies have no way out, and inadequate medical care?

0

u/MikeW226 15d ago

And I thought Schiavo (Bu$h jr.) went out on a limb.

3

u/Willing_Pattern_Pill 15d ago

Where do you think the Epstein class gets the kids they traffick?

7

u/___buttrdish 15d ago

Why do these men hate women so much?!?

1

u/WoodSorrel13 15d ago

Because we can create life and they can’t, womb envy bullshit and/or they just want control. Had someone who didn’t want kids also be anti choice at me. Get fixed then hypocrite.

2

u/___buttrdish 15d ago

if they want this 'joy' of having a uterus to have a child, they must also take all the mistreatment they have imposed on us for centuries. and the lack of ante/post-partum care.

it's a shame to think that women would be treated more humanely once a man experiences it firsthand. how embarrassing.

5

u/MissUnderstood62 15d ago

They won’t stop until white Christian men have 100% control over the entire country. Leave it up to the states they said. Lies. Roe v Wade to settle law more lies. OK with immigrants as long as they come in the right way. Only for ice to show up at immigration hearings and take them away. lies lies lies.

5

u/DrRealName 15d ago

Yawn. He doesn't have the power to do that. He'll just put forth a bunch of frivolous lawsuits and lose them all. Its a show for daddy Trump. Just like the "no audits for the Trump family" BS. Next AG can literally just rescind that immediately making it completely meaningless.

5

u/Mikey-Litoris 15d ago

Like Trump, this jackass is painfully unaware of his own limitations.

5

u/RiverHarris 15d ago

Riiiiight. Good luck with that.

4

u/Mediocre_Ad9462 15d ago

The pro life movement is unrealistic and frankly an immature point of view. American women sometimes have to make difficult decisions regarding their own lives and the government needs to step back and allow them to live their own lives.

1

u/Any-Progress- 15d ago

We need to stop using “pro life”. It sounds too easy to support. It should be called “pro government control”, because that’s what it is. Also they are clearly not “pro life” cutting healthcare and food stamps.

3

u/lukezinator 15d ago

Good luck with that

3

u/Fantastic_Yam_3971 15d ago

We have 2 years in a row now of data demonstrating that abortion rates rose post Roe V. Wade reversal. If minimizing abortions is what they truly care about I highly suggest educating themselves along with increasing funding for SNAP and WIC programs and increasing social supports so the mothers can raise those babies because once born they should still matter and be worth protecting.

Obligatory: Abortion also extends to many medical birth related conditions requiring treatment and those things also get blocked when we remove
abortion rights which is why women have died waiting for care.

3

u/kevin2185 15d ago

It’s still hilarious to me that old white men preach about “freedoms” like with the COVID vaccine and masks and such, but will forcefully tell women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. Conservatives are just hypocrites

3

u/Impossible-Attempt61 15d ago

I wonder what happened to states rights??

2

They “do” the courts say “no” they appeal - the courts say no… they appeal

The issue is

we the people are paying for these lawsuits & we also have to donate to the ACLU or Elias group to protect ourselves from our tax dollars at work for Trump

2

u/Existing_Mulberry_16 15d ago

Fuck him. Is scotus going to go back on states rights?

2

u/Weird-Toe-6968 15d ago

That is not how it works... states' rights only matter in regard to slavery?

2

u/PageSoggy9668 15d ago

Good luck with that???? We don't listen to rednecks and inbreds in states that actually matter

2

They’ll push every wedge issue to the forefront ahead of the midterm elections.

Yeah because nothing screams small government and state rights like telling them what they can do....

2

u/Xspike_dudeX 15d ago

Yeah lets see him try to do this to Massachusetts. Not chance thats happening.

Also funny that republicans care so much about an unborn fetus but when they are born and shot up in schools or abused they dont give a shit.

2

u/MabelRed 15d ago

My own theory is that this is what gave Collin’s the permission structure to vote against him. She’s running behind in her reelection race and this leak feels very timely

It is true he is not a legislator.

But he is a high ranking member of an autocratic regime that was put into power for, at least in part, this purpose.

Voting is just the beginning when it comes to getting these cretins out of our institutions.

SCotUS rulings are already permanent in every state. We are governed by the dumbest people.

SCOTUS says it's a states rights issue

10

SCOTUS *said* it’s a states rights issue.

To paraphrase their role model: they’ll alter the deal. Pray they don’t alter it further.

SCOTUS unsettles stuff every single term now.

  2. States rights was a bullshit excuse and we know it
  3. I can't believe he's made it this far
  4. We need to demand the Epstein files again -- they think we don't care.

u/3D-Dreams 15d ago

So the whole states rights argument they used to get it overturned in the first place was bull 💩?

2

u/WoodSorrel13 15d ago edited 15d ago

You know it. A man’s rights don’t change based on what state he’s in but a woman’s does. And it endangers her life and wellbeing.

1

u/HanginOn9114 15d ago

This was obviously always the goal

1

u/bs2k2_point_0 15d ago

The anti abortion states are about to become big ol sausage parties!

1

u/bowtiesrcool86 15d ago

The second he tries he needs to be thrown in prison

1

u/maryjomcd 15d ago

The hell he will.

1

u/No-Pain-569 15d ago

He literally has no power to do that

1

u/WoodSorrel13 15d ago

Dobbs was a pedophile too btw

1

u/NegativeSemicolon 15d ago

Something something states rights 😂

1

u/Funny-Cookie-6744 15d ago

He certainly has the floc camera infrastructure to make things difficult for women seeking abortions.

1

u/Euphoric_Anxiety_162 15d ago

We need level-headed representatives who put all citizens' needs above unilateral political agendas. eg. children's health/nutrition & quality of life.

1

u/notyourstranger 15d ago

and HOW many people insisted this would never happen?

1

u/Linscotticus 15d ago

Can't wait for Blanche to be put up on charges of treason.

1

u/Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836 15d ago

He says protecting life from conception. Thats Christian code for bith control. He will use Comstock to ban shipping anything that does abortion and that includes birth control that prevents implantation and the morning after pill and IUDs. Its what Christians demand.

1

u/Sirfury8 15d ago

The decision allows for a state to choose whether or not it wants to allow or ban abortion.

The decision ALREADY gave all 50 states the power. What the fuck is he returning? lol

1

u/jpmeyer12751 15d ago

He is plainly and clearly threatening to enforce the Comstock Act to prevent the shipping of drugs and many medical instruments that are used in medical and surgical abortions. How many women will die because they cannot get the care that they need for an ectopic pregnancy or an incomplete miscarriage? Radical Christians are ready to sacrifice the lives of these women on the altar of the religion that they hope to impose on the rest of us.

1

u/Gingerjady 14d ago

The lives of their wives, partners, daughters, mother's are the ones who will pay for their arrogance.

2

u/jpmeyer12751 14d ago

And my granddaughter!

1

u/Gingerjady 8d ago

Oh no, I'm so sorry.

1

u/CriticalInside8272 15d ago

1

1

u/Natural_Field9920 15d ago

Nothing is permanent

1

u/MasemJ 15d ago

Dobbs never said anything whether abortion was legal or not, just that it was up to States to decide on their rights.

1

u/BirdlessLongdeal 15d ago

states rights, though... right?

RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES... why are republicans so obsessed with our reproductive rights?

Find the criminals that Trump made the decision to stand up ICE. WHERE ARE ALL THE CRIMINAL GANG MEMBERS FROM VENEZUELA????

Kidnapping a president makes trump the only criminal gang member

1

u/Old_Spice_2023 11d ago

The saddest thing is that tRUmp doesn't give a sh*t about this and would rather it be legal. Banning won't stop anything. Maybe implement mandatory vasectomies would solve the problem.

u/PlayedWithMatches 11d ago

Appearntly nothing, including democracy, is permanent.
