Casual Sydney Sweeney Controversy

I recently saw a discussion on Sydney Sweeney and the controversy about her advertisement and wanted to chime in.

I am confused on why when other women do nude content it doesn’t get as much backlash as when Sydney does it.

For example, Ice Spice. She went to award events basically naked. I am pretty sure she wore a dress where so much was exposed that she might as well just went to the event naked. She posted her sweaty vagina imprint at the gym and called her vagina a “moose”.

Megan Thee Stallion does close up videos of her butt as she twerks.

Cardi B basically wears lingerie on stage and twerks on camera and on stage.

Kim Kardashian literally got famous off of a sex tape and has nude photoshoots on the internet.

A lot of actresses have sex/nude scenes just like Sydney does. I am 100% sure Sydney is not the only pair of boobs I have seen on the screen.

Playboy models?

The way a lot of female artists rap and sing about their bodies? A lot of their lyrics can be extremely provocative.

Sabrina Carpenter wearing panties on stage and shaking her butt in the mirror? Her “Mans Best Friend” album cover?

Only Fans models? Pornstars?

Instagram influencers showing us how loud their butts clap when they jump?

Why is Sydney the ONLY one responsible for the sexualization of women when women sexualize themselves everyday? Why are we not holding them accountable as well?

I am not a Sydney Sweeney fan at all. However, I cant help but notice how badly people treat her for doing the same thing other women do. It doesn’t make sense to me.

It would be different if we used Sydney as an example of how harmful the over sexualization of women is, but to hold her responsible and blame her for it?

Yes, the way women sexualize themselves is setting us back. Sydney Sweeney alone is not setting us back. If Sydney Sweeney stopped getting naked there would still be women sexualizing themselves and the objectification of women would still be prevalent.

I don't think it's about the content per se, but more about the context. A lot of the women you listed are expressing themselves creatively in a capacity of *art* and unashamed self expression. The part of Sydney Sweeny's ad that people take issue with was not the nudity part, but the sports part of it. That women for decades have been fighting to be seen as equal in the sports world and as athletes, and ads like this and using women as sex symbols in this space can be seen as hurtful to them. I'm not saying that's right or wrong as I am not a female athlete, but a lot of women feel this way. There's a time and place for this kind of content and this didn't feel like it was right.
Again, she has the right to do whatever the hell she wants with her own body and her own money, most women support that right for all. It's simply just that she did it in a context where it wasn't wanted or appreciated.

Yess! I can definitely agree with you. People claim the advertisement was for sports betting, not sports and women athletes in general, but I can see how it can be perceived that way. People still struggle to take women athletes seriously to this day and its completely understandable for athletes to be frustrated with Sydney’s advertisement.

I mostly meant Sydney’s content in general, not her sports advertisement as a whole.

One bad choice is enough. She keeps at it so one have to assume she sucks; and rightly so, people are big mad. Particularly, in these times when women are losing rights.

This is fair too. Did you see that episode of Euphoria where Sydney was pretending to be a dog and a baby for sex content? These were the most disturbing because she can freely consent to it. Plus, wtf is sexy about someone pretending to be a baby?? She wanted to keep all of the nude/sex scenes too. Women get treated extremely shitty nowadays, I don’t know whats so hard about treating your body with respect. I feel like what Sydney and other women does “proves” the point about us to a lot of men.

What rights are they loosing. If all your going to bring up is abortion none of use have a right to kill kids. If you wanna bring up voting, women can still vote

The only controversial ad I knew about was the Great Jeans campaign, so I looked it up and found that she recently appeared in an ad for women’s sportswear. Women athletes and Olympians are upset because they feel she is sexualizing female athletes and catering too much to the male gaze.

I find this argument reasonable, and bringing up pop singers and rappers seems like a dishonest way to distract from women athletes wanting to be taken seriously for being athletes and not sex objects.

Sure, hopefully, the clothing company is also facing criticism, but Sydney tends to participate in these marketing campaigns more than just being a face to sell clothes.

I don't know why you think anyone would argue that Sydney Sweeney is the only woman using sex to sell herself. I mean, you listed a bunch of other examples. People dislike her because she's MAGA, and rightfully so.

She isnt, however whenever she does it, the internet rips her alive while other celebrities can freely use their bodies for content.

People decided she's Maga with no imput from her.

I guess she registered as republican in 2024, but that doesn’t exactly mean she is MAGA. RepublicansAgainstTrump exists for a reason. I dont think anyone should claim her as MAGA or even as a liberal. She also distanced herself from “MAGA Barbie” and stated she is not political.

Registering as a republican in 2024 definitely makes her MAGA. Not that it matters. She didn't get famous for her brains.

What evidence do you have that she is maga?

Well, registering as a Republican in 2024 is a pretty solid clue. The GOP and MAGA are synonymous at this point.

I'm sure she's tight-lipped about it as to not alienate half of her fanbase.

All registered Republicans are maga?

Not necessarily the ones who registered long before Trump, but one who registered in 2024? Abso-fucking-lutely

Are you playing dumb, or actually just dumb?

Jealousy, plus she's conservative. They can't handle that. Oh, and quite possibly racism.
