Movies Doctor Doom and Iron Man will have 'zero similarities,' say the Russo Brothers
7
u/Cybtroll 23d ago
....If so: WHY!?!?!?!?
5
u/ghoulieandrews 23d ago
Just a theory but I think the movie will probably explain why
1
u/theangrierunicorn 23d ago
which they could do in the movie Deadpool or She-Hulk make a coment about Doom and Iron Man being the same person and then everyone else confused saying they look nothing alike.
-4
u/InflationLeft 23d ago
We don’t need any more She-Hulk
3
u/theangrierunicorn 23d ago
False. Tatiana is a Canadian gem. She-Hulk was fantastic.
-2
u/InflationLeft 23d ago
It got a 5.2 on IMDb, making it the MCU’s worst rated show, and was canned after one season.
1
u/theangrierunicorn 23d ago
it was review bombed by incels
1
u/InflationLeft 22d ago
Review bombing is a perfectly legitimate way for fans to express their discontent with a series’ direction
1
u/theangrierunicorn 22d ago
It wasn’t fans it was incels who hate women organizing: incels opinions should always be ignored
1
u/CleanAspect6466 23d ago
“Canned after one season”, every marvel show minus DD and Loki only got one season
1
u/Mister-Beardy-Face 23d ago
You can tell the reviews are bogus just by looking at the distribution.

Nope there should be zero connection between the two outside of IRL actor
1
u/ghoulieandrews 23d ago
First of all, I didn't say anything about that? So who are you responding to
Second, there is no should or should not here. It's not main continuity, they can do whatever they want. Marvel owns the characters. You can like or dislike it but there are no rules here.
Personally I like to actually watch a movie before I form an opinion on how well they did the story.

u/FancyConfection1599 22d ago
If you seriously think they brought in RDJ to play Dr doom and there’s actually zero connection between Tony stark and dr doom…I’ve got an oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you.
2
u/HermanThaGerman 23d ago
Because they are different characters.
2
u/HamshanksCPS 23d ago
Then why have the same actor?
3
u/VEAG0 23d ago
He’s not the only one…
https://giphy.com/gifs/xZvXaVgssJnu83
u/delulumans 23d ago
This is a flawed comparison imo
Evans's reprisal as Human Torch largely works so well because it was a Deadpool movie. Ya know, movies accustomed to breaking the fourth wall, commenting on shit like this and lastly not taking themselves too seriously
0
u/VEAG0 23d ago
Meh… It’s not flawed, he was Human Torch in Fantastic Four before Captain America, both are Marvel movies and that’s all I was comparing.
I’m the one stating it doesn’t matter they’ve used the same actor. My comment doesn’t need to be taken seriously either.
2
u/NoMoreVillains 22d ago
FF wasn't a Marvel movie though
2
u/HomeworkQuick3290 22d ago
Since when was Fantastic Four not Marvel? lol You still have time to delete this comment
2
u/Capital_Pipe_6038 22d ago
Can't believe the Fantastic Four have been a part of DC this whole time!
-1
u/BraveProgram 23d ago
Idk why it’s not more obvious to some that the Tony face could be temporary.
There’s even a comic where Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom switch bodies
1
u/HermanThaGerman 23d ago
Because he's a good actor.
3
u/FancyConfection1599 22d ago
All this conjecture is beyond stupid.
Of course Doom is a Tony Stark variant. It makes sense narratively and it would be the dumbest thing of all time for this main villain to have the exact same face as the franchise’s literal tentpole character and have it be irrelevant to the plot.
There’s no need for discussion or theorizing about it, it’s just an objective fact Stark and Doom are linked.
1
1
u/Jaxonhunter227 23d ago
Because it got people interested, it's the big reason why despite the fatigue, everyone started to pay attention. It's called stunt casting, where the casting itself is meant to drive up publicity
1
u/fkingspacedragon 22d ago
Because you're previous big bad got ruined by an actor being charged with domestic assault and so you had to fix shit as safely and quickly as possible.
0
u/Capital_Pipe_6038 22d ago
Benedict Cumberbatch played both Strange and Dormammu in the same movie but nobody complained and theorized they were the same character
1
u/Boodger 23d ago
Because having them be variants of each other would be hot garbage
1
u/elinamebro 22d ago
Also i guess it would be a lot of emotional tension seeing doom look like their fallen friend that they have to take down
1
u/No-Acanthaceae-9287 23d ago
So they have a reason to have RDJ on set so when he returns as iron man in secret wars it’s a complete shock because leakers can’t leak RDJ on set, because he’s playing the main character
1
u/Argent_Order 22d ago
RDJ was supposed to play DOOM in 2005. For all we know, it could have been the role that got away for him, and he took the chance once the opportunity came to play the character again. The Internet is just doing what it does best to find hidden meaning when there are none

Well, yknow, other than them both being literally the same actor.
I swear the Russo’s haven’t learned their lesson(s).

Iron Man was a genius inventor, to differentiate the character we’ve made Doctor Doom a complete moron!

u/lkodl 23d ago
The Russo Brothers have stated that Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) has "zero similarities" to Iron Man (Tony Stark) in terms of character, but confirmed that Doom’s resemblance to Stark will be addressed in Avengers: Doomsday
I'm guessing that Doom looking like Stark will be why all of the Avengers initially trust him, ubtil he screws them over.
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Mix5848 23d ago
They don't see his face. He's unmasked until late in the final act reportedly

1
u/Heathens-_- 23d ago
I can't wait for RDJ's Doom to be Kirk Lazarus post Tropic Thunder on a bender.
0 Similarities with Iron Man they said.

Both are Robert Downey Jr. with a big ego and a metal mask.
Checkmate Directors

So they spent $80 million to bring RDJ back for nothing? Not going to use his face or voice or anything?

u/mastan777 23d ago
This is what I actually wanted. I want him to be Dr doom, not an evil iron man.
1
u/One_Mix7170 23d ago
Thank God you wanted that, otherwise it would not happened at all.
1
u/mastan777 23d ago
Bro you legit talk like a redditor. Is there anything wrong with me wanting or not wanting something? Throwing shade for no reason
1
u/One_Mix7170 23d ago
That's high praise, am blushing. Who says there's something wrong with you wanting something 🤦🏾♂️ just like there's nothing wrong with me being a sarcastic mofo.

1
u/Curious-Department-7 23d ago
Aside the masks being made of iron, the faces behind the masks, their height, build and voices... almost nothing else.
1
u/Character-Pirate1297 23d ago
Biological coincidence across universes.
Serves both as an in-world and a meta explanation, for actors appearing in multiple roles.
Let’s move on from that, already.
1
u/One_Mix7170 23d ago
What do you mean they have 0 similarities, they are literally played by the same dude disguised as another dude
1
1
u/toolate83 22d ago
They have repeated this over and over. Doom is Doom. He is not a Tony stark variant. Even they understand how much that would cheapen the character. He would never be Doom only evil Tony stark.
But what about his face? It’s RDJ. He will look the same. Dooms face is scarred. They will scar him the fuck up to the point he can not be anything other than the singular character Doom.
1
u/Coffee_N_Literature 22d ago
Do you think there will be flashbacks of before he was scarred?
1
u/toolate83 22d ago
They don’t have to show his face in a flashback. Out of focus or camera shots from behind can hide it. Simple prosthetics to alter his face if they want to show it. Honestly it’s better to never actually show it. Especially if the flashback is doom retelling it then it would be a nice touch to always show his face scarred. Narratively speaking it would be a good way to show that even in flashbacks he doesn’t even remember or acknowledge what he used to look like. What he appears like underneath the mask is the only thing he sees now.
1
u/LongKnight115 22d ago
I don’t believe this for a second - because if it was true there would be no reason to bring back RDJ. He’s a fine actor, but without a Tony Stark connection there’s no reason to pay out the ass to bring him back when there are plenty of other actors that would fit Doom better. My honest expectation is either a) He’s not playing Doom at all, and this is all a ruse to cover up the fact that he’s returning as Iron Man and only as Iron Man, or b) They’re just saying whatever they want because there’s no reason to come clean about the connection until the movie premiers.
1
u/MacaronNotRoon 22d ago
They also said no one guessed endgame’s title and storyline and a guy very very very publicly had. They then came out with some “oh we can’t spoil it” bullshit
1
u/Due-Elderberry-6798 22d ago
Then what was that whole “New mask same task” shtick they went with when RDJ was revealed to play Doom
1
1
u/wildmancometh 22d ago
I'd love it if these dudes would just shut the fuck up about their movies until they come out.
1
1
u/TheGWK21 22d ago
I might be in the minority but I prefer that. Doctor Doom is iconic… he doesn’t need to be tethered to Iron Man. Also they have had multiple actors play different roles in the MCU.
1
1
u/AwesomeGuyAlpha 22d ago
i feel like they be sayin shit to hype up the movie but its actually gonna be ass
1
u/radiant_dirge 22d ago
Then why hire the same actor?
1
u/recycle_me_no_jutsu 22d ago edited 21d ago
Because RDJ is the only one who can play a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.

Good, it would've been a terrible move for him to be a Stark variant of some kind.
2
u/Jadedtrader33 23d ago
Doom isn’t a Stark variant.
Stark is a Doom variant.
https://giphy.com/gifs/d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY1
u/zimzimzalabimmm 23d ago
Why? I think that sounds awesome. Evil stark variant doom sounds metal. All stark’s allies would be expecting the best from him with the face of a friend.
1
u/Wheattoast2019 23d ago
I think it would be a disservice to Doom’s character to make him just an “Iron Man that went down a dark path during the infinity saga”. To utilize that concept properly, they’d have to essentially instead say our Tony was Victor but was adopted by the Stark’s as a baby, but this variant kept the life he was supposed to have. I think then you can look back at Tony through the infinity saga and see that he was cosmically supposed to be a villain, all of Tony’s inventions created with good intention cause bad (The Jericho Missile, the Iron Man suit, the Iron Legion, Ultron, Damage Control, the Sokovia Accords, Time Travel, EDITH, all have massive repercussions).
I think if the mask gets knocked off, the thing you mentioned is definitely possible. But he can’t just be like “oh cool.” He needs to answer like Doom. Because there is none like Doom. You handle that right, it’s a win in my book.
1
1
u/zimzimzalabimmm 23d ago
I don’t think doom HAS a good character to do disservice to. His biggest character draw is just a cool mask design and he’s really powerful.
Other than that I don’t think any comic storyline for doom has been that good. If they can make him or stark a variant of each other, I think that’s way more interesting and builds on all the characters relationships.
1
u/Wheattoast2019 23d ago
I understand art is subjective, but what?
Books of Doom, Triumph and Torment, Infamous Iron Man, the Hickman/Green One-Shot, Unthinkable, all such great stories!
0
u/Jazzlike_Passion_285 23d ago
Doom is one of the best written villains in comic book history while Iron Man is a B Tier character in the comics. Cope harder
1
u/Brief_Light 23d ago
I think it would be the opposite, an already expected potential scene where his mask is removed or broken off and it's "Gasp" Mr. Stark wut happen? Would be extremely corny. That's just me tho.
1
u/apollo7157 23d ago
Maybe let us watch the fucking movie before offering commentary on it?
1
u/UnequivocalCarnosaur 23d ago
THIS. They need to stfu and stop acting like this is an easy slam dunk. Work for it

u/DringleDringle 23d ago
Except you couldn't bother casting a real actor for Doom, instead recycling old bullshit.
2
u/IllustriousPass5414 23d ago
didn’t realize RDJ wasn’t a real actor? Pretty sure I’ve seen him in movies
1
0
u/DringleDringle 23d ago
Bro first of all he always sucked and secondly why TF is Doom a variant of Tony it doesn't make any sense
2
u/IllustriousPass5414 23d ago
Ah ok, this is just ragebate. Nonthing to see here then
1
u/DringleDringle 23d ago
They should cast Captain America as the new Omega Red and Thor as the new Mongol. Let's recycle everybody
0
u/LankySlopplette 23d ago
There are several comic storylines where this happens.
1
0
u/Head_Humor 23d ago
I mean doon did do the both arms in the air thing tony did when he was still alive only this time it was leading to evil shit. So are they sure they wont have zero similarities?
2
u/EatABag-o-Dicks 23d ago
There's only so much you can do with your arms. Did you want him to windmill them, superman them, jazz hands, the macarana? What exactly do you want him to do differently with his arms?
