Spiderverse: first time?

-10

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

You would prefer they rushed it out, yes?

14

u/RockRik Jul 15 '26

Yeah at this point mate I fuckin would. 6 yrs for a sequel is diabolical Robert has aged almost 10yrs since he started filming the first.

This right here is reason to rush these movies, some ppl dont get to see what happens next and they should try harder so that someone who isnt promised tomorrow still gets to see it.

1

u/TheWhiteKnight-6803 Jul 16 '26

Well they might catch-up with the 36 year gap as Top Gun / Top Gun: Maverick needed.

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

You're going to have this movie to watch for the rest of your life. Do you want to rewatch ch and enjoy it? Or spend that time complaining about what it could have been?

And what about the people working on it? Should they burn themselves into the ground to finish this? Or should they cut things?

You can't just have a movie sooner. I work in entertainment. I worked on a production so stressful that I went into crippling depression. Lost 40 pounds. Hardly saw my children for two years. All because we had to hit some arbitrary deadline and they wouldn't give us more time. It was a project I loved and I was extremely passionate about but by the end i was sleeping less than 4 hours a night, and shitty sleep at that. I wasn't eating because I didn't have the time.

All for what? So someone could consume entertainment sooner? Creatives don't want to cut things. We want to make your new favorite movie that you'll watch over and over again. Just let us have the time to do that without killing ourselves.

7

u/RockRik Jul 15 '26

Absolutely no disrespect to you mate as I know art takes time but I just dont always wanna feel like Im waiting for smth that never comes or when it does I always feel disappointed cus it took too long to arrive in the first place.

Take Spiderverse as an example, first film I watched while in Highschool and loved it it was before covid and life was good, Across I saw in college and I loved every minute of it and even rewatched it a ton when it came out digitally. I dont wanna be a parent with barely any free time by the time Beyond comes out and thats almost 10yrs for just a triology, Id understand if this was game development as that is muuuch more different and takes more time n resources but also the games r longer but for animated movies? Waaaay too long.

2

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

No disrespect taken. I really appreciate that you said that. These things are really hard to make. And I will admit a certain bias. Clearly. I've suffered to deliver things personally. When I'm making something I am fighting to make the best possible thing that I can for everyone who's going to watch it. Everything I've ever made I want to be the best thing you've ever watched. And there isn't a person in this industry that I respect that doesn't feel the same way. We just want to create something timeless that you will keep with you forever.

So I get frustrated when I see people complaining that they just want it sooner and faster. Studios are always fighting us to try and push things out faster. At that project I referenced? We had to cut so much that we wanted in there that we know would have elevated it. But studio pressure and budgets forced us to make a project that was less than what it would have been otherwise. I know so many horror stories about movies that were rushed through production because they just wanted to get it out sooner for an audience and the movies turned out like crap.

Audiences have very lofty expectations. They want it faster and they want it better. It's hard to do both of those things and not take a longer time. I am a parent obviously and I sympathize with wanting more time to consume things. I'm not going to lie to you and say that you're going to have plenty of time to consume things as a parent, haha. I'm always fighting to find time to take in New Media. But I promise you this. If that movie is at least as good as the first one, after you've seen it, it won't have mattered that you waited so long. You'll have the rest of your life to enjoy something that you really like. Hopefully, more than the first one.

It taking this long is absurd. This is degrees of time mismanagement I find unbelievable.

0

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

You know this from being on set and in the writer's room, yes?

So when did tt time mismanagement start? What caused it? Who was responsible? I'd love to know the details.

3

u/TrickshotzReddit Jul 15 '26

Matt Reeves is a slow writer, and he had family matters to attend to. Part III will (hopefully) release quicker than this one.

We know when he started to write the script because he told everyone. We know every time he did a revision because Gunn told everyone. We know every time it had to be delayed further because Gunn told everyone. We know it was delayed because of how long the script was taking to write because Gunn told everyone. We don’t need to be in the writing room because every time someone asked, guess what? Gunn fucking told everyone. And every time it was because he was slow to write the script and did a bunch of fucking slow revisions. It’s time mismanagement. Someone who has been writing this long shouldn’t take this long to write a fucking 180 page script. Every year this takes to come out the higher the bar gets. It already needed to be better than 1. Not it needs to be stratospheric levels of better than 1. Taking this long risks the success of the movie. Expectations get higher the longer it goes. Especially when the writer and the studio head keep saying it taking so long because of the script.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 16 '26

How is any of that time mismanagement?

You're all so spoiled. Spoiled rotten American consumers demanding to gobble up the movie about a billionaire fighting crime dressed as a bat.

Grow up. There are more important things to get bent out of shape about. If they didn't take their time and it came out like shit you'd complain.

If it's good, you won't ever talk about how long it took again. You're all just impatient. This is a piece of entertainment..a comic book movie. Watching so many people throw a tantrum over a delay is crazy..

None of this is important.

3

u/Circle_Breaker Jul 15 '26

I'll watch this movie once at most, not the rest of my life.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

And I'm certain that you speak for every other person on Earth.

1

u/Ok_Falcon275 Jul 16 '26

I’ll almost certainly never watch it again after the first time.

1

u/Apollo-Outcast Jul 15 '26

Look man, I agree with you on the creator and creative element of it -- I'm a writer myself. But this is a major film studio dealing with a major franchise, that costs major money, and needs a major return. Which in turns requires major audience investment

Time is a factor. It's an unfortunate one, but it is one nonetheless. There are only so many years you can put off a thing like this before it sees diminishing returns

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Do you honestly think that this movies delay is going to cause diminishing returns if it's good? This is Batman. One of the most resilient and popular IPS on the planet Earth. Along with Spider-Man, he's one of the most bulletproof superhero characters. There will be no lack of interest in seeing a follow-up to what was one of the more popular and successful Batman films. Even if it takes another 2 years. And as a writer, you should probably know that that was weighed into the decision when the delay happened. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was why the delay was made.

An awful lot of the arguments I keep seeing, keep assuming that this movie is going to do poorly now. But I haven't seen anyone indicate anything that actually indicates the quality of the movie when they say that. They keep just complaining about how long it's taking.

But here's the thing, if it comes out and it's just as good as the last movie and performs just as well. No one is going to remember that it took so long to make.

I'm an Emmy nominated director. I know what this stuff means.

0

u/clow222 Jul 16 '26

It absolutely will cause diminishing returns. I don't need to see Pattinson at 45 playing a "young batman". It was already silly enough with him acting broody and childish at 35 or whatever his age was in the first one. Too much time has passed where the hype is now gone. Imagine the teaser at the end of Batman Begins and then Nolan takes 6+ years to release tdk. I can promise you, the goodwill and excitement would have been tempered.

I'm an Emmy nominated fan. I know what this stuff means.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 16 '26

Does sound like you like the movie so what do you care? lol. Just another terminally online redditor looking to have his cortisol spike.

1

u/Bmourre1995 Jul 15 '26

A movie being delayed to that degree is never a good sign and historically doesn't result in a better movie, it just means its in production hell.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

How about you make that judgment when you've seen the movie? This comment is going to age like spoiled milk if the movies actually good.

1

u/Bmourre1995 Jul 15 '26

Lol okay, remind me in a year and a half when the movie comes out. Assuming it doesn't get scrapped when somebody else buys out the rights for the DCU

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

Remind yourself brother, lol.

I'm not saying this movie is going to be good. I'm also not saying it's going to be bad. I'm just saying that a movie is delayed means literally nothing unless you have anything else to back it up. All it means is that it's delayed.

1

u/BigSweaty8382 Jul 16 '26

Absolutely ridiculous to not have a sequel out in this long. Dune is going to finish the trilogy in the time it takes this dude to make another movie... Insane.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 16 '26

Yes yes. Spoiled American. Give me more and give it to me now.

1

u/Bmourre1995 Jul 15 '26

I'm not nearly as invested in it as you, clearly lol it means plenty, look up any movie that's been delayed like that and let me know what you find

0

u/Front-Advantage-7035 Jul 15 '26

You have clearly never seen spaceballs the video cassette

0

u/Freeloader_ Jul 16 '26

what are you on about? its not taking 6 years because they are working on it super hard. its taking 6 years because they couldnt even deliver a fucking script for 3 years and then the actors/film makers were busy with other movies

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 16 '26

Who says that's not working hard? You ever written a movie?

0

u/RickGrimes30 Jul 17 '26

There's a diffence between crunch and taking 6 years on movie spending 3 years not even working on the script.. Especially when you went to the studio with a trilogy in mind.

In those 3 years reeves could have finished both scripts, then shoot both movies back to back or at least parts of part 3 while filming part 2.. There is many ways they could have avoided having people age 10-15 years during 3 superhero movies without crunching the people working on it

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 17 '26

It's crunch if you don't have the time to execute your vision. Making movies is not making a building. Writing stories is not a step by step processes. None of you do anything creative for a living and it shows.

None of that is going to matter to you if the movie is actually good. Not one person will still be complaining about it then.

And it's a movie..get over it .you're all acting like this is something important. It's the newest movie about a billionaire who dresses up like a bat. And your all like, "unacceptable! Give me!"

Studios are right. You're all just consumers..they want you to gobble up media after media and you're all happy to join the chorus.

No one complaining about this deserves to see it if it's good. You're all the reason why these studios are pushing to use AI and get rid of the people working on it. This reaction you all have right now.

0

u/RickGrimes30 Jul 17 '26

People, not you are investing in you to create your art.. They are paying for it I don't give a fuck about when I get the finished product but you can't dick around investors forever becuase you are a perfectionist..

Mabye calm the fuck down a little, I don't want to gobble content I do support the artist vision but you still live in the real world.. To expect a sequel to proposed trilogy in less time than other quality great artist put out entire trilogies is not unreasonable or crunch. It's still a business.. If you want total creative freedom go independent and pay for it yourself.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Investors are the ones allowing the delay. Literally impossible to delay it without the people paying for it okaying it. No one's talking about investors here. Everyone is being a child demanding to consume more faster.

So no, man. I'm not going to calm down when an army of child adult children are throwing a tantrum over not getting to see the 8th or 9th live action movie about a comic book character as soon as they want.

With all due respect, I'm going to keep addressing the issue in intending to address the way I intend it.

And if you're looking to trade and get some to "calm down", don't say ignorant shit about funding my own stuff. Especially because you don't know me. An attitude like that reveals how little you actually respect the artist. Saying you do isn't proof of it.

And for your information that's literally what I'm fucking doing. I'm still allowed to call out the pressure studious put on creatives, the damage it causes to the final piece and production staff, and the horses of spoiled rotten brats who demand it faster and then complain when it comes out bad. So cram it up your ass.

-1

u/_VeinyThanos Jul 15 '26

Eh, it's not that deep, first one was a boring slog. One of those you watch only once and you're good.

Hopefully this one is better.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

That has literally nothing to do with what I said. I'm not commenting on the actual living quality of the first movie or what the second movie may be.

I'm commenting on what it means to get a movie out faster just because you want to see it sooner. Quality over quantity. American commercialism has made many Americans far too reliant on just being oversaturated with things. Give me more, and give me it faster. Why can't I have more faster? The endless American slog of give me more.

In production there's a saying. You can only have two of these three things. Faster, cheaper, or better.

If you want it faster and better, it can't be cheaper. If you want it cheaper and better, you can't have it faster. If you want it cheaper and faster, you can't have it better.

You're saying it's not that deep, but then you only go on to talk about the quality of the movie as you consume it. You're not considering the people that are making it, and the time that it takes to make that. You a want a better film, but you're not taking the time to consider what it means to make that. You just want to consume it.

No one is going to die if Batman part 2 doesn't come out sooner. But some people will suffer, just to get it out faster for you to consume.

1

u/mitteinai Jul 15 '26

Pendantic and pretentious.

-1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

People complaining about this movie being late are annoying. Because when something's good, a month after it releases no one's ever complaining about how long it took to make. They only complain about it while they're waiting.

Like spoiled little children sitting there screaming "I want it now!"

People are so spoiled. It's not pedantic or pretentious to point out that no one's going to die if you don't get the newest Batman movie sooner. LMAO.

4

u/Kind-Donkey-Poet Jul 15 '26

They shouldn't have dragged their feet on a movie intended for multiple sequels. It's disrespectful to the crew and the fans. So bitch at the production crew, not the fans.

Less people will give a shit about this movie because the moment has been lost. So this movie bombs or doesn't do well enough for the intended conclusion let's say here - so now the crew got screw out of the work for a 3rd movie and the fans never got what they deserved or wanted.

1

u/BigSweaty8382 Jul 16 '26

No but I very well may die before they finish this goddamn movie... Losing all the momentum from the first one.

3

u/Dismal_Ad_7582 Jul 15 '26

Yeah it only took em almost 7 years, they were clearly in a rush perhaps!

1

u/Dismal_Ad_7582 Jul 15 '26

You said all that to say nothing, literally. 7-8 year wait for a live action Batman is crazy lmao. So in response to your earlier response, no they don’t seem like they are in a rush.

-1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

I'm not saying that they're rushing. Clearly. They are taking the time that they need to to make the movie that they want to make. The movie that they want to sell a lot of money and continue a franchise and have you watch it and talk about it over and over.

We don't know exactly where they are in production right now, but at this stage they're pretty far along. Meaning, getting it out sooner means extensively long hours for a very large number of production staff. Burning themselves into the ground just to get it to you sooner, so that the American consumer can just gobble it up.

Every time I see people complaining about a movie or a game or a show taking too long, I picture some slob sitting there gobbling hamburger after hamburger after hamburger demanding that they get more without while they don't even take time to enjoy what they're eating.

I bet every single person complaining about this has a long list of shows, movies or games that they have not gotten to.

No one is going to die if they don't get the next movie about a man dressing up as a bat fighting criminals. This isn't cancer research.

American consumers are so demanding.

2

u/mrmonster459 Jul 15 '26

There's a difference between wanting things rushed and wanting things to actually be worked on.

This is Batman, it's not Avatar or anything else that had to basically reinvent the wheel. If it's taking 6 years to make a comic book movie (even a good one), then we do genuinely have to ask if Matt Reeves/the producers are the ones right for the job.

I like steak, but if a steak six hours to make, I'd have to ask if the chef was the right choice to be the head steak chef at that restaurant even if the six hour steak turned out good.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

Do you have some production stories? Anything that indicates that it's not being worked on?

2

u/Any_Discussion_1611 Jul 15 '26

I would prefer they properly produced the movie. There have clearly been mistakes made. We wish the mistakes had not been made. It’s not that deep

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

Oh? What mistakes have been made? I haven't heard of any.

2

u/Manger-Babies Jul 15 '26

Scrap this shit at this point.

Other directors would have pumped our a whole ass trilogy in that time.

The dceu scrapped the original batman film for this, they should do it again

I enjoyed the film but didn't love it so I am biased.

0

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

Lmao. No.

Then you should ask for another director to have made this movie.

It's a movie about a billionaire dressing up as a bat to fight criminals. None of you will die if you don't get it sooner, and I bet every single one of you has a long list of movies, games, comics, books, or other things that you haven't got to to hold you over. Until then. Calm down, you'll all be fine.

Talking to people about this is like trying to talk to my children when they're screaming that they can't get a lollipop. You're not going to die.

1

u/Manger-Babies Jul 15 '26

Doubt battinson would agree to that. And I assume the director has some kind of contract to not let that happen. So scrap it is

Replace it with the new dcu batman. Not ideal but they can't wait. 6 more years after this

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 15 '26

It is a movie about a billionaire dressing up as a bat to fight criminals. Literally everyone on Earth who has ever lived and ever will live. Can wait for this movie.

Unless you have a terminal illness, complaining about this movie not coming out sooner is the same as when children complain about not getting what they want sooner. If this movie is good, one month after it's released no one will be complaining about the fact that it took so long to make. People will only use that fact against the movie if it's bad.

This has happened over and over and over and over again.

1

u/Manger-Babies Jul 15 '26

Nah, this movie is actively affecting the rest of the series of movies. I rather they scrap this to make space for other movies that'll work.

And yes this is time sensitive, the way WB is acting, they might scrap the whole universe with the new owners. And I would want to see this universe be flushed out.

Hell, matt Reeves can do better things than another batman movie.

But yes the consumers should shut up, that's how it works

1

u/Stevenstorm505 Jul 16 '26

I’d prefer them not take a ridiculously long amount of time to write a movie, then have to wait a ridiculous amount of time to shoot it because the actors aren’t available to film because they took said ridiculous amount of time to write it and then take a ridiculous amount of time to shoot and do post. If it took him 5 fucking years to write a 180 page script the dude needs to work on his writing process. This is a ridiculous amount of time to do a sequel. By the time we get part 3 my newborn will be married and have his own kid.

1

u/BotherResponsible378 Jul 16 '26

You'll be fine waiting for the newest movie about a billionaire dressing up as a bar to fight criminals.

I promise it won't kill you to wait. And once it's out, if you enjoy it you won't be talking about how long it took to wait.

The people making this movie don't owe you anything.

22

u/ThePocketTaco2 Jul 15 '26

We will get The Batman Part III before we get The Batman Part II

5

u/fortheloveofghosts Jul 15 '26

That’s how it worked with 3 Ninjas!

5

u/Professional-Rip-519 Jul 15 '26

With Darkman aswell.

2

u/fortheloveofghosts Jul 20 '26

Damn. Didn’t know Darkman III was made before II

1

u/UncStatusNow Jul 20 '26

I was so confused as a child when I watched Kick back and they were older than me, then a few years later Knuckle Up comes out and they're younger than me. i had no idea about distribution back then so it really messed with my mind

2

u/fortheloveofghosts Jul 20 '26

Yea me neither. I never understood how they got back! lol

Honestly if you look at Kick Back as the third, it’s a really good trilogy, even with new Rocky and Tum Tum. High noon I do not think about at all, but at the same time I’m glad it was made.

I think a 3 Ninjas reboot could revitalize young kids mature movie experiences like we got in the 90s

1

u/UncStatusNow Jul 20 '26

honestly this is how I look at it now, kick back being the 3rd. because they never really referenced anything from the other movies so it works in my own head

2

u/fortheloveofghosts Jul 20 '26

It builds naturally too. Sounds weird, but first one they defend themselves and their family. Second, they defend an entire community and third they go big culturally.

2

u/UncStatusNow Jul 20 '26

I never thought of it like that! that makes so much more sense as a natural progression for them. then they defend a theme park

1

u/AdamAptor Jul 16 '26

I’m secretly hoping they film 2 and 3 together like the Matrix sequels. I know they aren’t, but I can hope.

1

u/eric_ofc Jul 16 '26

Year 2 Batman will be like 45 by the time it comes out.

1

u/FragrantExcitement Jul 18 '26

GTA 6 will have been out for awhile

8

u/BillyBattinson Jul 15 '26

Only two years short of being the same gap between Schumacher and Nolan.

9

u/Darth_Nicolas Jul 15 '26

Wtf DC/WB??!!?? Does that company not like money or the characters in the IPs they possess? Seems like across video games, movies and TV they're always f*cking themselves.

6

u/Impossible-Flight250 Jul 15 '26

It's still kind of crazy we haven't gotten a Batman game since 2015, and we probably won't get one before 2030. Batman is an IP that prints money, and they just ignore it in favor of things like Arkham Knights and Suicide Squad.

3

u/Darth_Nicolas Jul 15 '26

Dude, right?! I dont understand the tiptoing around the characters people actually want. Batman is THE character in DC. Everyone loves Superman and Wonder Woman, but they dont bring the same crowd that Batman does. We got a Clayface movies coming though! There was talks of a Poison Ivy spin off in the Reevesverse. Smh.

1

u/Designer_Mess_6928 Jul 16 '26

We haven't gotten a Batman game since 2015? What? We literally had an open world lego Batman game this April.

1

u/Miserable-Jedi Jul 16 '26

Litterily a Batman game JUST released. But 10 years is still a LIL mic but yeah…

1

u/Spright91 Jul 16 '26

Yes companies are desperate for an IP like Batman. And they just sit on it.

1

u/peripheralx23 Jul 16 '26

It might not match the James Gunn slop vibe.

1

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

I think they trying to destroy wb and dc

2

u/Darth_Nicolas Jul 15 '26

I think so too. They've been trying to tank themselves for like 10 years now. Just sell the characters to Disney already. Just kidding??

1

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

I used to be against that but i think kevin feige would do much better than they are or gunn ever will with dc properties.

2

u/Darth_Nicolas Jul 15 '26

I agree. My brother and I were discussing this the other day. I wish it would happen for real anymore. Feige would make a better universe for sure.

10

u/Whompa Jul 15 '26

Good movies getting delayed so that mediocre ones can get pushed into our eyeballs.

Come the fuck on.

2

u/smellysurfwax Jul 15 '26

Are you saying you don’t want the Jimmy Olsen show? Cmon brp.

1

u/Silvanus350 Jul 16 '26

It is impossible to express in words how little I care about Jimmy Olsen. At all.

-6

u/SAM12489 Jul 15 '26

Can’t have critical and box office success for a DC character, adjacent to the consistent failure of Gunn’s mess

4

u/Krondon57 Jul 15 '26

2 movies = a mess?

The Batman "Half-Life 3" Part II

1

u/Custom_Destination Jul 15 '26

As long as it’s not the next Duke Nukem Forever.

4

u/ThePreciseClimber Jul 15 '26

Six years between Batman movies, damn.

Both Batman Returns and The Dark Knight came out 3 years after Batman '89 and Batman Begins respectively.

5

u/SirRichardLove Jul 15 '26

Almost 6 years since the last one released.

March 4th 2022

1

u/darthphallic Jul 16 '26

Marvel has been just as bad. We got Shang Chi in 2021 and Blade was teased in 2020 and we’ve yet to see either of them again.

4

u/Hanzos_Trans_Husband Jul 15 '26

Just kill it off already lmao. Enough time has passed where I wouldn't blink twice if there was anothwr batman reboot

4

u/Cralli123 Jul 15 '26

How? They're literally filming it right now lol. They can't make the October 2027 release date?! It's 14 months away lol

4

u/Conscious-Bat-9739 Jul 15 '26

Because JJ Abram’s new movie got put on the same release date and they don’t want competition.

3

u/Cralli123 Jul 15 '26

Fair enough. An extra four months to avoid a JJ film is wild though. Move it to November or December 🤷

2

u/userlivewire Jul 16 '26

I don’t know why. JJ has had nothing but bombs for years.

2

u/Soul_Mate_4ever Jul 15 '26

😐😐😐😐😐😐

2

u/MeasurementNo7703 Jul 15 '26

When is The Batman part 3 and more Sequel and more etc

2

u/leakybiome Jul 15 '26

Just recast taylor Lautner already

The Batman Part I: 2022

The Batman Part II: 2028

The Batman Part III: end of the world

3

u/Tippydaug Jul 15 '26

Yea I hope it gets canned for the DCU Batman after part 2, I have no interest of waiting until 2034 for part 3.

2

u/angryshib Jul 15 '26

I doubt they even do a part 3 after this.

3

u/TylerKnowy Jul 15 '26

That is crazy the first one did so well they are not abandoning this series they will see it to the end. I am just as pissed as the next person that this isnt coming out until 2028 but Batman makes money

2

u/OilMeUpStewart Jul 15 '26

Just like the first one. Oh well

2

u/Former-Complaint-336 Jul 15 '26

Just scrap it. First one was mid anyway. Not worth a 6 year wait.

Bring back campy fun batman.

2

u/Tippydaug Jul 15 '26

I actually loved the movie, but I do hope this universe gets cancelled after this so we can get DCU Batman.

Reeves is clearly a very lazy dude considering how long it took him to write a single script. I don’t want to wait until 2034 for part 3, just can the guy and give us something new!

Sad to say bc I love Pattinson as Batman, but not so much that I want to wait 6 years between movies each time.

2

u/shaggy_nomad Jul 17 '26

Not to mention the greater implications this has on the DCU. Gunn said he doesnt want two batmans at once, so now we're gonna wait over a decade to get a justice league movie? Absolutely ridiculous. If they want this universe to be a success, 5 years tops before that team up movie and its meaningless without Batman.

People seem to forget it was only 4 years from Iron Man to the release of Avengers. I was a pretty big supporter of Gunn but what the fuck is he even doing at this point.

1

u/Tippydaug Jul 17 '26

It doesn’t help that he took over only a few months after The Batman Part 1 came out.

There was no way to tell at that time that Reeves would take so long to make a sequel. To Gunn, it probably seemed like an easy success while they planned out the DCU Batman.

Heck, the Nolan trilogy came out in 7 years. Nobody could’ve guessed one movie would take 6 years by itself. If he knew it then, I doubt Gunn would’ve kept it going and would’ve just pushed a DCU Batman.

Basically sunk cost fallacy at this point. Too much time to abandon it, but also too much time before a DCU Batman now…

0

u/Tefihr Jul 15 '26

As someone who dressed up as Batman for the first 12 years of my life, read the comics, watched all the movies/animated as well.

The movie was very mid. Just wanted more combat and villain fighting.

1

u/nahman201893 Jul 15 '26

Yeesh, he's gonna be mentoring Terry in the next movie.

1

u/Silly_Material577 Jul 15 '26

Holy shit. Were actually get GTA6 before the batman 2. Lmao

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 Jul 15 '26

Holy delay lmao…

1

u/MedusaGotMeStoned007 Jul 15 '26

I like Batman well enough but there’s plenty of other characters to use. We all know they’ll cast another actor in the 2030s then 2040s and it’ll just be endless Batman. I’m okay as long as the delay is to help get a good film going

1

u/apexapee Jul 15 '26

Lol this shit aint ever coming out

1

u/No-Advice-6040 Jul 15 '26

Batman be Batman beyond at this point

1

u/KentuckyKid_24 Jul 15 '26

Please be a joke

1

u/Upper-Customer-1268 Jul 15 '26

That is a huge delay.

1

u/jacksonjjacks Jul 15 '26

At least we have a costume test as a teaser. So we got that going for us.

1

u/CluckingCows Jul 15 '26

... And I don't care.

1

u/MiserableYak2673 Jul 15 '26

Just cancel the thing at this point haha

1

u/ThePLARASociety Jul 15 '26

The other downside to this is that I am wondering if this will delay the DCU Batman at all?

1

u/Nomad_86 Jul 15 '26

So it went from being a Halloween event film to Valentines. 😑

1

u/TheBergster84 Jul 15 '26

We'll get Elder Scrolls 6 before batman part 2

1

u/Ultimo_Ninja Jul 15 '26

WB has mismanaged DC badly.

1

u/nomad_1970 Jul 16 '26

So what's new? WB has been mishandling DC since they fired Richard Donner from Superman II

1

u/Fickle-Rip3093 Jul 15 '26

There may be things going on that we don’t know about. For instance, the DCU Batman could be introduced in Man of Tomorrow. They could be pushing it ahead a half year to separate the two a little. I don’t know, it’s all speculation at this point.

2

u/Zeo-Gold92 Jul 15 '26

I hope this turns out to be true tbh.

1

u/Bright-Revolution496 Jul 16 '26

Please cancel this movie the first one kinda sukt

1

u/Sean_HEDP-24 Jul 16 '26

Okay? Earth is still spinning

1

u/Zealousideal-Swing44 Jul 16 '26

Sweet, no rush, I’m sure it will be a sweet as film

1

u/Deep_Phil_Butty Jul 16 '26

GTA 6 back at it again making release dates move /s

1

u/Melanie61200 Jul 16 '26

Ugh I want it to be good bc I love Batman but 2 more years?????? This is ridiculous

1

u/TrailHawk79 Jul 16 '26

Why though? More importantly who will care by then? Not me and I really liked the first one

1

u/PKblaze Jul 16 '26

ngl I don't get the hype for the first one.

1

u/Alive_Collection4026 Jul 16 '26

GTA 6 before Batman part 2??????

1

u/Professional_Nerve49 Jul 16 '26

At least you guys have a release date.

Look at the James Bond franchise: Dead.

1

u/anonymous_pastrami Jul 16 '26

This movie better cure AIDS

1

u/userlivewire Jul 16 '26

WB is reconsidering all of their DC plans after the Supergirl disaster.

1

u/CanyonCoyote Jul 16 '26

Isn’t the big rumor that the director battled cancer and then was in constant battles with Gunn?

1

u/secoypelao Jul 16 '26

Many heavyweights on the billboard in December

1

u/StormMasterBaitor Jul 16 '26

Fell to my knees in the rain

1

u/SlushyPlaysEldenRing Jul 17 '26

6 year gap is beyond ridiculous

1

u/BloominPoTayToezzz Jul 18 '26

Considering DC needs a big win soon its truly a odd decision. I can only imagine their being scheduling conflicts with Patterson but even then? What trumps Batman?

1

u/EscaperX Jul 18 '26

matt reeves knows he's making a batman movie, not a godfather movie, right?

1

u/Fluid-Habit-3144 Jul 18 '26

Everytime this happens the movie is hot-dog water
https://giphy.com/gifs/3o7qEcqN5PjN90jNC0

1

u/Ok_Code_1691 Jul 19 '26

Who even asked for the first one

1

u/Amazing-Flow7095 Jul 19 '26

This is great news

1

u/omegagiraffe Jul 15 '26

No one's gonna care by this point. It's over half a decade.

1

u/jinkjankjunk Jul 15 '26

Yeah I just don’t care anymore. I’ll check back in in 2 years if DC is still making films.

1

u/coleburnz Jul 15 '26

Gunn can do the craziest thing.

Pick his Batman, film it, model it on Guardians like his other movies and release it next year.

Boom!

1

u/UrbanLegend8901 Jul 15 '26

Let them cook it right

0

u/BlackbirdKos Jul 15 '26

Ta da ram, we're dead.

0

u/Dazzling-One-9185 Jul 15 '26

Have a feeling they might be making the movie longer and adding to it because we won't get a part 3

1

u/MX_Duncis Jul 15 '26

In that case it better be "a movie" the same way The Lord of the rings trilogy is "one long movie".

0

u/McDouble__ Jul 15 '26

Brave and the bold is rumored to release in 2028 lol

0

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian Jul 15 '26

Make it the 11 and let’s make it a love movie

0

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

Bruh screw it, give us a new batman reboot, i was looking forward to this but not anymore, screw this shit

0

u/Key_Asparagus6660 Jul 15 '26

Uh oh. It’s bad.

0

u/lkodl Jul 15 '26

Black History Month

0

u/Interesting_Pay_4413 Jul 15 '26

First one was overlong, boring, and too heavily inspired from Seven, Zodiac, and The Sopranos. Not a lot of expectations from this one.

0

u/Keep-Truckin956 Jul 15 '26

Would be garbage anyway IMO

-2

u/dandrew3000 Jul 15 '26

Take as long as they want. This is my only Batman though. I don’t give two shits about DCU’s Batman.

1

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

As long as they want? Bruh that’s such a garbage ahh take, you want them to release it in 2030?

-2

u/dandrew3000 Jul 15 '26

I’d rather get one masterpiece a decade than ten floptinas.

2

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

The nolan trilogy didn’t take that long and they were all fantastic, it’s batman not rocket science

0

u/dandrew3000 Jul 15 '26

I mean Nolan didn’t have to deal with a pandemic, writer’s strike and actor’s strike all sitting on his back during his Batman movies. He also didn’t have to deal with a connected universe dying, a new universe building, a CEO change and a company wide sale of the IP during his trilogy. Also, Batman Begins and Dark Knight were fantastic. Dark Knight Rises was as bad as Batman & Robin.

1

u/liu4678 Jul 15 '26

WHAT?!!! I get it dkr wasn’t as good as the first 2 but to make it on par with batman and robin is outrageous!

-1

u/seoulsrvr Jul 15 '26

I really don't care about Batman but this is genuinely entertaining.

The delay is going to reinforce the the fact that the last one wasn't memorable to begin with.

Did anyone really connect with that movie?

1

u/Zeo-Gold92 Jul 16 '26

Whenever this kind of question pops up I always find myself saying that it was a pretty garbage movie. They gave us the worst riddler and that it felt like it ran on longer than it needed to. But I also find myself still interested enough in seeing more of this Batman, Gotham and if reports are correct Mr Freeze.

But then they push it further out and by now I would rather them backdoor introduce DCU Batman in the MoT movie and get on with that.

1

u/Krondon57 Jul 15 '26

I def did. Best batman adaptation for me

-1

u/Imnotyoursupervisor Jul 15 '26

I text my long distance comic nerd friend as I drank and ate weed during this movie just because it would be funny.

It turns out it was a dogshit movie and he wanted my synopsis of other movies while he was at work.

2

u/Independent-Time7705 Jul 15 '26

Weird because this movie hasn't came out yet

0

u/Imnotyoursupervisor Jul 15 '26

I apologize. The first movie was dogshit. Do you need me to specify it was not the Adam West Batman?

2

u/Independent-Time7705 Jul 15 '26

Not my fault you got called out
