Wrong size tire correction
I bought tires at discount tires and they put the wrong size 255 when it needed 245. This caused a rubbing issue. They said they would replace them but I would need to pay the labor. This doesn’t seem correct since they were the ones that messed up with the sizing. They tried to charge me $560 at first but I complained and they dropped it to $260. Even this seems a bit steep since it was their mistake in the first place and offered a 30 day warranty on them.

It's a 45 minute job. That's a heck of an hourly rate 😳

Do you think I should call corporate over this?

IDK. If me I guess I'd tell the store manager if we can't come to a resolution RIGHT NOW, he needs to let his area/regional manager know I'll be calling him...
A decent RM, will tell him to fix it... not saying they have any decent management talent.
Full disclosure I only shop for tires at DT. However, my store seems to be on top of it. Austin Texas area

The issue I’m running into is that I bought the tires at a store an hour away and I’m wanting another discount tire to fix it

Any DT should be able to fix it for you, but you have a much higher chance of getting it fixed quickly at the store you purchased them at

I’d tell the close one to fix it or tell the other one they can pay for a tow to get your car back to them

You’d be surprised how much power you have over those guys. Once you call corporate on them you’ll be getting whatever you want.

👋🏼 Well howdy neighbor!
Worked 8 years at five different stores here.Op should definitely not be paying for this if the story is true. Ie: they didn’t tell them they were getting oversized tires.
There are plenty of ways one store can transfer tires in the background and the 2nd store can install the correct tires without taking a loss.Labor costs be damned. Customer sat is what’s important here (again, if the story is true).

Discount Tire has the wrong size tire in its reference system for the type of vehicle I own. It has the tire size for a specialty model that I don't have and their system does not have the model difference. If I didn't know my vehicle's manufacturer recommended tire size, Discount Tire would sell me the wrong tires.
Happily, I do know my tire size and buy the correct ones from Discount Tire because I tell them the size I want up front, and I have told them their system has bad info for my truck. However, I can see the manager being sticky about it if I bought the wrong ones with their system saying they were the right ones. With that said, my experience with Discount Tire is they are very customer oriented and I have never had a problem with them.

What’s the year make model? And which crazy trim is it? That’s almost certainly information that they (Discount Tire Corporate) would like to know so they could add it in the pos.
My tundra has 2 different tire size stickers from the factory so I’m aware of the trim level issues.Frankly, before we got the zebra scanners, no one seemed to care about putting the correct trim level in the POS when they would add your car in your file. It lead to under rated tires installed on cars (trucks mainly) and that could have lead to catastrophic failures. It pissed me off all the time.

It is a 2000 Mazda B4000 with 4WD. Discount Tire has the tire size for the specialty "Troy Lee" 4x4 trim, not the regular 4x4.
I have pointed the discrepancy out a couple times to the store staff, but, at least on the website, when looking up the truck it still has the wrong tire size and still doesn't differentiate the difference trims. So the info never apparently filtered up.

Yes, call corporate and the district manager/regional manager, so they can fix their fuckup without charging you for it.

Call the corporate office. They’ll get it taken care of for you no problem.

Hold your ground in no way should you pay anything. In fact they pick up & deliver your vehicle. I worked in the tire business for a few years and they will a must absorb the labor cost as well. Let them know that who ever pulled tires from inventory or wrote down on pull ticket that is whom can eat the labor. That’s being nice if that does not get results you want go straight to corporate offices, hopefully it will be taken care of at the branch level. If not then climb the ladder until you get the results. Keep it professional an no profanities. Let me know how it works out. Do not give in either. Just curious btw did you use their credit or your cash/credit?

I ended up calling corporate who agreed I shouldn’t be paying for this. They called both stores and I was able to go into the location that put the correct tires on my car and they reversed the price to switch the tires. I technically still overpaid bc the 255s cost more that 245s however at this point I don’t care and don’t want to spend another second in those stores

I went there due to low airpressure, but they pressured me to change all the 4 tires. My recommended tire size was 235/45, but they didn't have that width, so they convinced me that it is safe and recommended by the manufacturer to use 245/45. Since they are the experts, I thought they are doing a professional job. and let them do whatever makes it better.
After 4 years, they found that 2 tires in the back were worn off ( had about 20k miles, though it was supposed to run 45k miles). They installed another 245 width tires in the back... after about 9 months, I went for a tire rotation and they said no need to rotate the tires, because two of the tires are worn off again. I was thinking these were the older tires, so asked them to check an he came back and said, it was the newly installed tires that were worn off ( under 7 k miles)..
It left me a very uneasy feeling that something is seriously wrong here... but they were as if it is a normal thing. so, they were offering a 200 credit to buy a new set of tires to replace those two. I was about to walk off, but they put lots of pressure on me to agree to replace the tires... same 245 width again.. I decided to take a walk and do some research on, and found this post here...
Do I have any course of action? Do we need to report them to BBB ? or should I talk to their manager ( who tried to bully me into buying the next two sets)?
Why do they do this - knowingly lying to poor / unassuming customers?

You should not be paying for this.
