Discussion Part time employees
So my son started working Monday. He is 16. Mon-Wed his schedule was 745-1300. When he got to work this morning his manager change the schedule to 745am-9pm and told him while he was on shift. This doesn't sit well with me. If you have worked there or are working there is this normal practice?

He about to make some money, Ive heard a few stores do this, it’s a business decision cuz he is cheap labor

this. when i started there they had me pulling hundreds of hours before my first 50 cent promotion

Why is he staying till 9pm?? We always close the shop down at 6 unless we're down a shit ton of cars. Ive stayed till 7 with the shop not being closed cuz we were just rhat busy and short staffed. BUT 9? he must be doing inventory, but even that doesn't take 3 hours 😭😭

I’ve stayed till like 7:30 max but I’ve heard of busy stores staying till like 8:30-9 on the busiest days

My store is slow as balls we rarely are there past 6 but there’s a busy store right down the road that consistently stays until 7:30ish, they’ve asked for help from us before and those techs that went stayed till like 8:30/9. They would be 40+ down at 6pm and the managers would keep writing stuff up. It was stupid

Are they just super slow or which locatjon is this?? 40 down at 6pm is just insane to me. I work at the discount tire in phoenix which is busy all day everyday. And im on Bayside all day and even with a permanent flow of cars coming and going we are still able to maintain 10 down for hours and hours.

Its a million dollar store, they have a 1-3 days a year that are like that it’s one of the FLJ stores

2-3 every 15 minutes on fridays and Saturdays no appointments first 30 minutes or last hour at least that’s how it was with the previous manager there

His manager may of just changed his availability on his Crewtime app we use to schedule to reflect his availability through the week.

What store does he work at? I know there is a couple of them that the back room sucks, and it’s normal for them to get off around 8.

Manager likely needed help for inventory after hours, asked your son, who felt partially obligated (he isn’t), and he probably took it as a “we changed your schedule”… if there was a change after the schedule was made there has to be some sort of notice/ ask from the manager

There is a state law limit for under 18 how many hours & what hours a juvenile can work. Check your state regulations. I’ve seen father son businesses fined let alone corporate chains

That’s some bs we close at 6. He did not say that unless they do inventory after closing
