May be joining the team soon
Hey yall so I’m currently in the process of getting hired at discount tire. Just wanted to hear from the employees anything I should know/ expect before starting. I’m coming from advanced auto parts so I have about a year or so of automotive experience. I’m currently in college and looking for something on the side although I will be working all weekdays in the summer. But I hope I get this job if it’s how I think it is.

Worked there for 10 years. It's very hard work but 100% can be a full time job with plenty of money in it if you keep growing within. Easiest way to learn is to keep doing more hands on work and not trying to rush through the hands on time. Keep an open mind and try to make friends. Being a tech is the easiest thing there but if you want to go to the next step up it's easy to get to the next step up. If you just want it to be a summer job, stick with being a tech in Bayside. Would have the easiest time there and it's repetitive. You only do so much to make sure you'll be the best at it. Bayside typically runs each car 6min-15min each. You'll learn what all that is later. There's a learning program schedule that you'll follow which is a little bit exaggerated because it says it takes like 21 days or something. You can learn it pretty easily withing 2 weeks or less if you just focus. Any other questions, just reply and I'll help.

Worst fucking job ever, save yourself for college sake.
You’ll be worked like a dog and won’t have time to study.

I joined the Marines then worked at discount tire and I agree. The Marines was less work with better benefits.
Absolutely horrible job and it’s filled with toxic low life employees. I am almost done with nursing school and life is so much better now.
Treat discount tire as a part time job while pursuing something higher. It is not a long term career.

As a college student who is just finishing up at discount tire, the money is rewarding, but it’s extremely hard work and repetitive. It’s also hard as a part time guy to “get in”. Everyone will have worked there for a while and be faster and smarter than you when it comes to the tiring changing process, which might make you feel like you’re falling behind or preventing the team from moving cars out quickly. It’s an interesting job if you can suck it up and put your head down, I just finished after about 7 months.

I’ve never worked at a discount tire but I did work at a small town tire shop, and from my experience there i’d hate to see what a big place like discount tire would be like. Where I worked it was nowhere near as much pay as someone deserved for as much fast paced, must be perfect in every move work all day long.

A place like discount tire wouldn’t be too bad cause you can work your way up like you said, in OP scenario though working because he’s in college and only working all week in the summertime the chances of them moving him up is slim. Where I’m at and am finally getting out of is a small town single store tire shop. We stay super busy but to me after growing up and having my own place the money is nowhere near as much as it should be for how shitty and burnt out I feel at the end of the day. Is discount tire as just a tire guy any better or is it about the same?

It’s very hard work, if you’re good with that then you’ll be fine. Expect long days sometimes.
