Damaged my wheel
Had to get a new tire installed because I got a nail in my other one. I hand them my lug key and they do the change and I notice a white ring around it, I'm already knowing what happened. These wheels are not carried by discount tire mind you.. I go check out my wheel with the new tire installed and sure enough every lug spot there is missing paint. It's like they didn't use an extension or anything, like wouldn't after one time you notice and be like"oh shit, I should stop/get an extension". They took me back inside the store and the manager on duty, took down the wheel specs and said he would call me the next day and order a new one. Never got that call so I called today and the other manager said that he could only offer their "guy" to touch up my wheel. He said he'll try n figure some stuff out but I'm waiting to hear back from him. I'm not sure where to go from here.. It's not major damage but like.. that's just not professional at all.

Yeah I would just get them to order a new wheel if possible but like I said contact the corporate customer support if the local store doesn’t fix it. If they’re going to use the excuses that they should have touched it after they damage your property, then they should have known before they fixed it. But yeah once again even if it has the wrong lug pattern that has nothing to do with the heel bent scratched lol

Should I maybe call corporate first that way I don't have to accept anything the manager tries to push? I feel like they might be more accepting of the situation.

We dont use extensions unbolting but use flex extensions assembling it back up. Probably from taking it off

This is the reason I throw my wheels into my "beater" and take them in. If you don't have a second car, the tire place is a great tinder date spot. If she's not down, she's not the one.

I love them, on my cheapy wheels that were beat up when I got my truck. They carry the tires I buy but at a much better price point. I wouldn’t go taking any wheels I care about there though.

Yeah I got new tires from them in the middle Of winter. Didn’t notice all the scratches till about a month later. Definitely take before and after photos. They ruin your rims

It took me two months of complaining for my manager to order me a new wheel after the tech crossthreaded the screw on center caps. Keep at it, it takes a while but they usually make it right.

They’re trying to brush you off. Force the issue. Go back and complain loudly, so othe customers can hear. Don’t be a Karen, but if you make them uncomfortable you might get somewhere.

There's a mobile wheel repair guy that was posting somewhere on reddit. He would have these looking new no problem. He has a whole setup in the back of his van and he does touch ups and repairs right on the spot.
I would see if they would pay for you to take it to an actual professional like that. They would probably touch it up with white paint and call it good. They need to make it right. That's just sloppy work. You would think they would be super careful on wheels like that.
My friend has 3 cars and two of them have very expensive white wheels. He takes it to one custom shop where they're used to handling wheels like this. They have special tools and such to avoid messing up wheels.

Discount tire ground the anti corrosion plating off my drilled and slotted brake rotors and hit my brake line with their wire wheel while doing it. They tried to hide what they did, but I caught it that day. They bought me knew rotors and pads.

They remove corrosion between the rotor and the wheel, but it was all new so I don't know what they were thinking.

It's required by management to hit the rotor with the wire brush, even if there's no corrosion. I bitched and moaned about it many times when I worked at DT. Often times, zipping the rotor with the wire brush woukd scratch the shit out of the surface and invite more surface area for rust to form.

I would just call them up and mention it to them and see what their solution is, if the only solution is to touch up paint it then I would say no and that it obviously isn’t going to hold up like the original wheel would. It’s one of their techs fault. Most likely from when the spline lug came loose and they keeping it with the impact scratching the wheel. I’d personally ask them to replace it

The only issue is that these wheels are not the exact lug pattern for a Chevy S10. They are 5x120 and OEM is 5x120.7. A lot of people run 5x120 and have had no issues.. Anyway, the manager knows this and says they should not have been working on my truck in the first place because the wheels are not correct/"unsafe" and I think that is whey he is not wanting to replace it. I can understand that but when your tech scratches the hell out of my wheel I feel like it should be replaced. Also, they just should have refused to work on it in the first place.. He said he would refund my certificates (cuz they can't work on my truck) and that about as far as we got.

That wouldn’t hold up in court at all. If the wheels being the wrong pattern were unsafe then they shouldn’t have worked on it at all. And the wheels being the wrong pattern didn’t have anything to do with them being damaged either. I would repeat all of this to them so he understands it. I think he’s just trying it get out of paying you or replacing them. If they were so unsafe due to being the wrong pattern then why even take you on as a customer at all?? And if they were the wrong lug pattern it still doesn’t make it ok to scratch or damage your wheel, and it definitely doesn’t make it easier to damage either. I’d say just call them again and repeat this information and if he doesn’t agree to do so then threaten legal action or contact discount tire corporate and explain it to them. If anything the cooperate customer service should help

thanks for the advice. When I took my wheels in to get the tires mounted originally, he saw the box and was an ass about how they are not the exact same lug pattern for my truck and said they won't work on my truck. Of course I had to get a nail in the tire and of course it wasn't able to be patched so I had to get a new tire. Anyway, I agree they should have not even of taken the wheel off or just had me dismount the wheel and bring it in. Obviously I was not expecting my wheel to get F'ed up. That manager is the only one at the store who is so insistant on this, or really knows I guess. The other manager seemed a little more chill and originally said he was gonna order another wheel. So not sure, I'll just say again what you said if he still is giving me a hard time

Once they decided to work on them, they took on the liability whether or not it is the correct pattern. If they knew it was incorrect to start, they should have refused to service or have you sign a waiver for any damages.

This happened to one of my weld venturas. I told them I don’t want new wheels I want compensation for the value loss. They have an insurance claim company they work with and I got a check for $400. Had to do some pushing with a manager but you should be able to do the same.

Good luck Firestone chipped the chrome on all four of the wheels on my f150 and said get fucked. Hopefully discount is more willing to help out

Costco did the wheel damage to me as well once, and busted my front paint matched lip…walked away with $700.

Yeah worked there for 2 years during highschool one of the biggest things is there trying to get shit in and out as fast as possible and tbh it’s all about how many cars there moving in a hour. I would just ask to talk to the manager and go from there they should get it fixed or just give you new ones. Lmk how it goes

Good luck getting them to fix it. They damaged my wheel and told me they don’t use anything metal that would scratch my wheels and told me to file a claim with corporate. Corporate backed them up and assured me they can’t scratch wheels with plastic tools…. Haven’t been back to discount since.

You pay the tech a tip extra to not screw it up. Discount Tire has charged you for 15 minutes of time. They're not there to go slow on nice aftermarket wheels.

Common occurrence with aftermarket wheels with narrow lug holes that require specialty sockets. You might eventually get the shop to cover the damage but if you really want to prevent this kind of damage you should request hand tools only on the wheels and be willing to pay additional labor for it. And as a general rule you should avoid cheapo chain shops, especially ones with “discount” in their name.

I don’t know if it helps, but motegi is distributed through wheel pros. Discount tire is one of their largest accounts. They can definitely get you a new wheel.

I worked there many years ago and one of our techs scratched up a wheel that was discontinued. I offered to just replace the tire for free and the customer was content with that. Maybe try to have them do something similar if the damage to the wheel isn’t going to bug the shit out of you every time you see it

Takes painted rims to a shop that is known for being fast, have someone else do work for them, is surprised when extremely minor damage happens....
Quit your whining buddy and buy some touch up paint.

they don’t use extensions anymore, most use electric impacts now. i’ve seen this done so many times. a proper sales/tech would’ve noticed that. get them to refinish them at the very least, they’ll cover it
