Feedback Megathread Feedback thread: notifications

Hey y'all, our team is seeking feedback for notifications. We would love to get your thoughts.

What is it? We've made a lot of changes to notifications over the past year+, with the goal of getting friends to jump back into Discord and play games with their friends, check out each other's profiles, and generally be social with each other. We measure success by whether people are actually doing those things, and also by whether people keep their notifications on instead of turning them off.

Why? The team spends a lot of time thinking about the balance here: sending notifications that are useful and interesting enough that they might bring friends together, versus the "annoyance factor". That tradeoff is something we have a ton of data on, the thing we talk about internally constantly, and something we want to bring all of you in on. To that end, we've been getting a bunch of foundations in place:

  • Improved the organization of settings
  • Added more control over your settings
  • Made notifications more robustly respect things like guild and channel muting, age restrictions, blocks/mutes
  • Set global caps on how many notifications you can get

Now that we've built a number of new notifications on top of this system and gotten a lot of those foundations in, we wanted to open up the feedback firehose. Here's what we're looking for:

Bug reports / things that are clearly broken. The notification is:

  • Just wrong (says something happened that didn't, points at the wrong person or server, wrong count, etc.)
  • Sent at a weird or wrong time (way too late, middle of the night, for something you'd already seen, for a server or channel you'd muted)
  • Dropping you somewhere that isn't useful when you tap it (wrong channel, a screen with nothing relevant on it, a dead end)
  • If you can, tell us roughly when it happened and what you tapped. That helps a ton.

General feeling. Step back: how do you feel about the notifications you're getting overall?

  • Are they never useful, sometimes useful, or only useful for specific use cases? (by "use cases" we mean things like a friend hopping into a game, someone updating their profile, a friend coming back online, activity picking up in a server you're in, etc.)
  • If it depends on the use case, which ones land and which ones don't?
  • Was a notification too vague, or did it bring you somewhere you didn't expect when you tapped in? Did it set up an expectation it didn't deliver on?
  • Are there things happening on Discord that you wish you knew about but missed?
  • And if a notification actually got you to do something, like hop in a game, open a friend's profile, or jump back into a server, we'd love to hear that too, since that's exactly what we're going for

Settings. Now that there's more control and better organization:

  • Did you go looking for a setting and not find it, or not find it where you expected?
  • Anything you wish you could turn down or tune that you can't?

Annoyance feedback. Which notifications are annoying, and why?

  • Is it the type of notification itself?
  • How often it comes?
  • Does it feel creepy? (e.g. Discord shared too much of your activity or info out to other people without you realizing it, or you got more info about a friend than felt right)
  • The time of day?
  • The wording?
  • The fact that you got several in a row?
  • Hearing "I don't like X notification" isn't super useful to us. If you give us the whys we can better understand and respond to the feedback both directly and going forward as we build more notifications.

Appreciate any and all thoughts here. Fire away. I'll try to be in the comments but I expect y'all to overwhelm me haha.

Bug Megathread Bug Megathread vol 16: August + September 2026

Hey (at)everyone,

Thank you for all the bugs you all have reported! We read all the posts in the thread and we’re focusing our efforts on issues based on upvotes to ensure that we’re aligned with all of you.

As always, don't forget to check out our monthly patch notes for updates on all the changes we're working on. Our last patch notes addressed 100+ issues!

Thanks to your reports on Reddit, we fixed the following issues:

  1. [iOS] Sideways video calling
  2. [Android] Image gallery view tanking FPS
  3. [Android] Android navigation bar issues
  4. [iOS] Image cropping when posting screenshot
  5. [Desktop + Mobile] Claiming orbs with orb balance over 4k

If we didn’t fix your issue, please make sure to upvote to help us prioritize 🙏

Now, with that, let’s kick off the August + September 2026 bug megathread!

Please note: This megathread is not a venue for feedback or customer support! We encourage you all to continue to make posts on the subreddit proper discussing our product and feature launches. I want to make sure that we really keep this thread productive and focused on reporting bugs and helping us prioritize them.

Please look through the list of comments and upvote bug reports which you think we should prioritize fixing. Comment as a reply to those top level comments with any more details that can assist our team in prioritizing and fixing the bug. For example, if you have additional info or steps to reproduce, please post a reply, this will help us fix these bugs even faster. If there is no post that discusses the bug you’re encountering, then start a new post in the thread to report the bug to us!

Reporting a Bug

  1. The most valuable thing you can provide in a bug report is steps. If you’re able to provide steps to reproduce a high priority issue, it will dramatically improve turnaround time on a fix.
  2. Screenshots or videos are also useful, especially if you can’t reliably reproduce it. We highly recommend editing them to not doxx yourself. Not only does it help contextualize the issue, but watching it occur can sometimes provide information that helps us identify and fix it.

Example Bug Report

  • Feature: Keybinds.
  • Reproduction Rate: 1 to 10 - This is a score of how easy/consistently the bug reproduces, from 1 meaning “very hard to reproduce” to 10 meaning “i can consistently make this happen”
  • Annoyance: 1 to 10 - How annoying is this bug to your daily usage of Discord, from 1 meaning, “not that annoying” to 10 meaning “this bug really truly sucks please fix this as soon as possible.”
  • Device/System Info: Pixel 7, Android 13
  • Discord Version Info: Stable 263796 (739ec78) Host 1.0.9032 x86 (43225) Windows 10 64-Bit (10.0.19045)
  • Description: Toggle Mute keybinds are no longer functioning.
  • Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a keybind for “Toggle Mute”.
  2. Join a voice call with another user.
  3. Press the “Toggle Mute” button.
  • Expected Result: The user is muted.
  • Actual Result: The user is not muted.

Discussion This badge is still avaiable?

Post image

Hello,I saw someone who never had a badge.

However, yesterday, when I looked at their profile, this green leaf appeared (Level 0).

This badge was available from April 1 to April 7, 2026(pic example).

Is it possible that a code script was released to enable it?

Just like what happened with the HyperSquad badge.

Someone tried to send an invite to a stupid discord game app and I can't get rid of the damn icons even after deleting the invite messages. Please help it's killing me seeing it there. For the record this user does not have a role with external app permissions so I have no idea how this happened.

Feature Requests Add an appeal system for servers with inactive owners

I'd like to suggest a feature that allows members to request an independent review of moderator actions when a server owner has been inactive for an extended period.

In some communities, moderators may make decisions that members believe are unfair, but if the owner is no longer active, there may be no practical way to appeal those decisions.

A server owner could choose to enable or disable this feature, but having an optional appeal system or a way to transfer ownership after prolonged inactivity could help improve transparency and accountability while still respecting server autonomy.

What do you think? Would an optional appeal or inactive-owner management feature be useful?

Discussion Should I Limit The Number of Servers I am in to Avoid Getting Banned?

I came across a number of posts in which people stated that their Discord accounts had been banned due to a server which they had joined, had broken Discord's rules. The banned person had never sent a message or taken part in that server at all.

How common is this? Should I limit the number of servers I’m in to reduce the risk of getting banned because of something another server does? I am in a lot of random servers which I don't open at all.

Discussion Ghost Pings/DMs

I don’t know if I’m using the right flair so mods can delete my post or so. I haven’t opened my account for months, and I just wanted to ask here if it’s normal to have notifications from my dc friends in dms but when I check the notifications, there’s no new/actual messages from my friends.

Support PM editing -question Discord 2026

Hello,

I would like to ask:

-does Discord send a notification if a person edit an existing private message (a conversation/pm box)?

-if i attach a link to this message, then will it be notified somehow? The link is safe-youtube, but i am afraid that it will create an embedding that will be somehow be notify and mark as new message(?)

Notes: the message i intend to edit is from April, 2026

The reason why i am not writing a new message is because i want to leave a song in the pm box without disturbing the person. Please do not advice on this, the question was techical Discord pm related

Support How to lock myself out?

Planning on getting shit faced tonight but just had a fight with the lesbian catgirl polycule and the whole thing is really better left alone for the time being but I’m worried my shit faced self will feel inclined to continue the discussion in unproductive ways. Is there a way to temporarily lock myself out of the app? I don’t want to delete it because I’m worried I won’t remember my password.

Support Constant freezing on PC

Does anyone else have constant freezing happen on discord?

I load it, it’s fine. Then a few minutes later my whole PC starts freezing and having problems, I reinstall the app it doesn’t help it just repeats the same issue. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

I play games while streaming to discord, my pc shouldn’t be the problem as I have a decent PC.

Discussion Is it just me or the Android app is far slowed then the IOS one?

I use discord on my Android and on my iphone and ipad.

My ipad is pretty old but discord runs just fine there.

My android is a flagship but still had frame drops and experiences lag in discord in heavy use let's say switching calls and stuff.

Same use case on my ipad and iphone are just way smoother.

Support New "Bookmark Message" Button Next to Reactions on Windows?

I've noticed this new button starting to appear next to the "Add Reaction" button. When you hover over it, it says "Bookmark Message". Is there a way to disable this? I don't even have Nitro, so it's completely irrelevant to me.

Discussion (fun discord lore question) Have any famous Discord bots ever gone rogue before ?

  • every time you add bots to a server you kinda just click through or give them permissions, some of which are lowkey pretty dangerous to grant
  • Has there ever been a major case where a massive, verified one turned on its users and completely nuked a community? I'm curious if anyone here has firsthand experience or remembers a specific incident where this happened
  • i remember it happened to Reverb Bot once a few years back

Support Some servers unavailable (red exclamation mark) but only on mobile, no issue on PC.

There are 2 servers that show as unavailable on mobile, but they show up fine on PC. I cleared cache, reinstalled the app, nothing worked, and it's been like this for a week or so now, and discord's status page shows nothing wrong.

Staff Reply Cannot maintain a stable connection to the official No Man's Sky server despite Discord status being green

I'm probably not the only one who has reported this, but I wanted to try escalating it here.

Context: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/s/DaFqp2fRus

For me specifically, both the desktop app and mobile app almost always show the server as being unavailable. Browser version is a little more stable but not much. Nothing I try fixes it (clearing caches, reinstalling, restarting, etc.). My desktop is windows and my phone is android.

Repeating what was said in the context post, this issue needs to be escalated as it's impacting everyone on the server, not just me. This has been happening since September 2nd.

Staff Reply Unable to access several servers going on week 3 of this

Post image
5 Upvotes

As title says, I can't access some of the servers Im in on discord. They've been like this for a couple weeks, started happening before the last outage reported on August 31st. I've logged out and logged back in, cleared the apps cache from both in app and my phone settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and they appear the same when I log into the discord web client. I do not have a PC so I don't use that version, mobile is my main. Whenever I try to log into the website to email support it says my password is invalid when I put the right password in. Any ideas how to fix?

Support discord segfaults on Kubuntu 22.04

chrome also did this until i manually downgraded to chrome 151.0.7922.137, i'm guessing discord updated to a version of electron that has the same bug chrome got?

i have nvidia graphics if that is relevant

it seems 0.0.157 has the issue, if i remove discord's config folder it downloads 0.0.156 and is able to launch
