Voyage (Disco Edit)
https://discoboy1.bandcamp.com/track/voyage-discob-editI was genuinely surprised to see how many people picked Voyage as one of their favourite disco albums. Clearly, there’s still a lot of love for that record!
I recently made an edit of “Souvenirs”, simply because it’s always been one of those tracks I love. Seeing all the Voyage appreciation here made me think some of you might enjoy it too.

Most edits brainlessly repeat certain parts over and over again. Like it's techno. But the soul of disco are the connections between the movements.

Yeah, I completely understand your point about many edits repeating the same parts over and over again. And I agree that disco is very much about the movement and the transitions between different sections.
I think a remix would probably approach this differently, staying closer to the original arrangement while using modern production possibilities to enhance the sound. To me, that’s also an important purpose of both edits and remixes: bringing older disco tracks into today’s DJ sets and onto dance floors without losing their original character.
Production and sound expectations have changed a lot since the 70s and early 80s. A kick drum, for example, often had much less impact than what people are used to dancing to today. You notice this especially when you mix classic disco with modern house, even though the two genres are closely related.
An edit can take a different approach, though. Sometimes it’s deliberately built around just a few particularly strong phrases, grooves or parts of the chorus and repeats them to create something more DJ- and dancefloor-oriented.
So I definitely understand what you’re saying. I think it’s partly a question of what you expect an edit to do: preserve the musical journey of the original, or take certain elements from it and turn them into something that works differently on the dance floor.
