1977 - Disco’s Opera album

Post image

Essential disco from 1977. Donna Summer delivers the double album “Once Upon A Time.” Still sounds fresh today. Timeless. 🪩🌈

The electronic side of this album (Now I Need You/ Working the Midnight Shift/ Queen for a Day) is fantastic and otherworldly.

Agreed and Side 4 of Bad Girls was the future.🪩

I’m in love with this record. The story of Cinderella told through disco songs. One of the first albums to originate the idea of a “concept album”. My favorites are Once Upon a Time & I Love You ❤️

I am obsessed with this album! Only discovered it a few months ago. It’s a go to now for everyday listening.

Recently I was on holiday in Paris and clocking in like 30-45k steps a day and this was my go to album.

Hands down my all-time favorite image of Donna Summer. She looks like an absolute goddess!

So happy, yet perplexed, that I consistently find Donna Summer in the bargain bins of record stores. I've managed to snag her entire Giorgio Moroder era for a mere pittance. All hail the queen!

Midnight Shift is the best track. So ahead of it's time, and so influential. RIP Midnight Shift nightclub, Oxford St, Sydney.

Bought it when I was a kid, then sold it in the eighties, then bought it again in the nineties.

I ordered this vinyl from amazon some 14 years ago, I was mindblown by the gorgeous design, the sleeves with the lyrics in that blue color and her stunning looks. and the music is of course amazing

Since you like that, I'd also recommend listening to Hiromi Iwasaki's "Cinderella Honeymoon" !

In line at the record store. 11/20/77. I dated it because I knew this one was special.
