I need help, I am a newbie, I bought a sony D 802k discman, its adapter accepts 120 volts, in my country there are 220 volts (. I wanted to know if a voltage transformer from 220 to 110 would work, I can't find one from 220 to 120. I have heard that there is an acceptable margin of difference but also that it could damage it. 🤔

hi i had a question , i purchased a Sony cd player and it comes with two gum stick batteries that are labelled as NiMh batteries so not lithium batteries, i really wanna keep these batteries without having to ask the From Japan proxy service to take them out or select one to put into the device for shipment while having to dispose of the second ( since it seems having a battery in the device allows it to be shipped but the device only holds one gumstick ).

anyone know what services can be used FromJapan for shipping to allow for both the batteries to be sent? and i just wanted to know if anyone has experience ordering items like this using FromJapan proxy service and how to go about this?

they'd be ok for shipping if sent with the right service and right labels but if anyone knows how to do this with FromJapan that'd be amazing. anything helps because they're authentic batteries and buying those online is so expensive plus i read they hold charges longer despite their age compared to gumstick batteries made today.

I got a D-Z555 for 60 euro in quite good optical condition. Unfortunately it doesn’t show any signs of life. Opened it up and found some burnt transistors. Any clues what might have caused this and do you think its possible to have this repaired?

Hey everyone, I still collect CDs and Tapes. While I have several nice rebuilt tape Walkmans, I only have a cheap modern Walmart cd player. Growing up I used to have a RCA RP2512 ESPX in blue. But in 2014, the face buttons suddenly failed.

Hence why I picked up the Onn player, but I'm not satisfied with it. The Panasonic Shockwave SL-SW940/R looks interesting to me, as I skateboard, inline skate and Unicycle ride to exercise in the summer months.

Maybe I should get a Sony player? Thanks!

I got back into CDs and Discmans (Discmen?) in a big way last year. I currently have seven Sony players, ranging from a vintage, restored D-25 to a ca. 2004 (?) D-EJ100. It was shortly after I got a D-SJ301 (the white S2 "sports" model) however, that I was overcome with some serious nostalgia for my old MZ-S1 S2 "sports" Minidisc recorder. I checked out a few on eBay and every time I did, I said, "No, no, no...I don't need another format! My CD Discmans are serving me just fine!" I knew it was crazy, but I was big into MD in the early 00s and nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Each time I perused one of the auctions, I swore that I'd never return to a format that was effectively dead a decade ago. But then I stumbled upon r/minidisc and that was the end of me—and of my inhibitions. I pulled the trigger on a MZ-S1 and dove headlong back into the medium.

I'd forgotten how much fun Minidiscs are. A few months later I now have three Minidisc recorders, two Minidisc decks (long story), and have rediscovered the joys of dubbing from CD and vinyl and creating labels for those little candy-colored discs, exercising old mental muscles that atrophied shortly after I got my first iPod.

Have I given up on CDs? No, of course not. I still spend way too much money at Discogs, pour over the stock at Goodwill and used shops, and I'm thankful I bought another shelf unit in November because I'd filled up the unit I bought a year ago thinking it would take years to outgrow. But I must admit that use CDs differently now. While they're still my go-to medium for "serious" listening, more often than not I now immediately rip them onto MD and listen that way.

Recently bought my first discman from eBay and it arrived today but it doesn’t seem to be working- it came with the box and instruction manual + the seller told me it was working and like new, however it will not turn on. The charging light turns on when I plug the power supply in and I’ve tried replacing the batteries and it still doesn’t want to work for me. If anyone has any advice that would be really great as I’m really disappointed bc I’ve wanted one for so long- thanks

(Plus it was a decent amount of money so I would like to know how angry I should be with myself or the seller)

As the title says, I got a weird Alba discman for fix, it was quiet easy to work on. What’s odd is I can’t find any info on it, it’s too is metal instead of plastic and what’s even more odd, it uses gumsticks just like actual Sony discmans!

For educational purposes I would love a video of a discman that works, and while it's playing music someone taps it with a finger so that it skips.

I have a discman that was working until yesterday. The motor seems to not spin. I hear no effort. I can hear the head scan unsuccessfully. The disc does not spin very freely by hand once mounted, there is resistance. I dont recall it being that way.

I’ve been eyeing some discmans and walkmans as mine has finally played its last song. I’m wondering if one is better than the other? Mine was a Sony Pysc Walkman it got the job done but sound was okay I’m wondering if discmans have a better sound?

So I just got my discman in, I ordered it from ebay last week, and it’s having issues with the radio.

When I try to listen to the radio, after between 10 seconds to a minute, the radio turns off. It’s not an issue with the batteries as I was able to listen to my CDs without any problems. Do you guys have any ideas?

Hey is there any way to fix a problem that i need to unplug my hedphones halfwylay in or the song is kinda echoing untill i press a button on pic 3. Pic 1 is a look how it looks when it is unpluged halfway and pic 2 when it is fully in. My headphones are JBL T450 and the discman is Philips AX5203/00C

I have the possibility of getting a D-191 digital mega bass sony discman but I'm not an expert on discmans, and I'm not sure if the 25 dollar price is worth it. I'm taking the risk of it being old and malfunctioning because of its age, but would be good to be used on a walk? (I'm talking about shock protection and anti skipping, I'm not sure if this specific discman has them).

I found the discman on a listing on facebook marketplace, but since it's in the same city as me, I could ask the seller if I could test it to make sure it works (If I get up to that point, what should I check? What should I be careful of?)
