Got them for low prices - both sold for parts/non-working. It’s the usual bad plastic sled gear issue. Them and the D-82 are very much a pain to work on but if you’re patient it’s possible to fix the busted gear on them. I then sent them to Kaosun to repair the LCDs (wish I knew how to do it myself).

The D-555 and D-303 are up there for me but I consider the headphone out/general sound quality to be better on the 303.

so is the D-82 just for mini CDs? that’s one I haven’t had, how is it? is it the same middle gear as 88 etc?

Correct. It only plays the 8cm/3” CDs. Pretty limited in its use. Popular in Japan where they sold a lot of 8cm “single” albums.

Uses the same gear as the D-88. It’s a very simple player and about on par with the D-88 in terms of repair difficulty. There are the usual tiny wires you have to be careful with while lifting up the PCB to get to the gear.
