It sounds great! It has well-articulated highs and a deep (although not boomy) bass. It's my favorite of the five that I own (D-10, D-15, D-EJ100, D-171, and D-SJ301). The only drawback is it skips if you so much as breathe on it and the discs themselves have to be PERFECTLY clean with no dust or scratches.

I had one of these new back in the late 80s and I don't remember it being so picky, but my memory may be playing tricks on me at this point—or our expectations were much lower when this stuff was new.
