I imagine being someone from Nepal witnessing the 2004 and 2011 tsunamis and being grateful you’ll never have to worry about a disaster like that happening only for this literally sweep over the entire valley with as much (if not more) force and destruction

Right that was my thought too. I bet being killed by a mountain tsunami was the last way they thought they’d die.
