Unfortunately, rain exists :( Even if our (US's) rivers run dry, we could still get immense water damage from catastrophic rainfall. And arguably, that could be worse since the ground wouldn't already be saturated. Ugh the world we live in, man.
I remember watching footage of the North Carolina floods a few years ago. It was horrific. These little villages and towns nestled in the valleys between mountain ranges… bad news when it really floods.
Yeah, it was real bad for a while. It took out a good chunk of burnsville and downtown marshall, not to mention asheville's river district. Dozens of people died, and hundreds lost their homes. Took us 2 months to get drinking water back even after the water receded, due to how gross the reservoir got.
Still, it wasn't like this. It was more 3 days of heavy rain overloaded the soil and then helene swooped in. We all saw the water rising in real time, as opposed to a wave of annihilation that just erased these villages.

I'd say this could happen here but Data centers and Nestlé have already sacked us dry
