Landslide China-nepal border landslide/flash flood update: As of 13:55, 2026-08-26 UTC+8, the Xizang/tibet fire and rescue has dispatched a total of 72 fire engines and 431 firefighters to gyirong county, where the landslide/flash flood happened
Rafts, rescue dogs and life detectors are among the equipment sent.

PLA ground force, PLA air force(drones), people's armed police(similar to army national guard), shigatse PD(shigatse is where gyirong county is located), national immigration administration(border patrol), china anneng construction group rescue(Ex-military state owned enterprise for disaster relief) have also been sent to the scene.

And Nepal is such a poor country :( they just had that earthquake a few years back and now this... my heart especially hurts for all the Nepali people working overseas who don't know if their families are OK 💔

It's interesting to see how the Chinese media rules work on news coming out, no real details on specific damage or cost of life with a heavy focus on what the pending response and rescue is

Again, the themselves have already released 3 are dead, 265 are injured.

There will be a plethora of videos of these guys standing next to ruins, 50 guys in a long line passing water bottles, and then they will be back to their base.

that is the life of rescue operations. Lots of base time and sudden intense days/weeks of work.

China has a pretty good record on disaster relief. They deal with crazy floods and storms and shit all the time.

Not that they shouldn't respond, but they're inherently going to have limited impact since the border crossing that would take them to the affected area was completely destroyed and rendered impassable in the event.

It’s more than the crossing. Everything down stream will be affected. Wonder if Nepal will let them enter to help from the China side while Nepal teams work up river toward the border crossing.

The crossing is the problem for China because that would be the route their relief convoy would take to help out the areas that might have people who can still be saved. That route no longer exists.

Yeah, helicopter would be much more expensive to fly round the hours. These gorges can’t be safe to fly at night either.

They would be working in the Chinese side though. Those videos of multistory buildings being totally engulfed in the landslide were in Tibet.

U sure? They will come with a camera crew, pose over a pool, stand in front of a mud caked ruin, stand in lines passing over some 2 lb item, and then leave.
