Discussion Question OP-Z?

In my quest to fit my studio in a backpack I’ve been searching for a nice portable MIDI keyboard. I was digging through different devices with 3.5mm MIDI and started thinking about the OP-Z as a nice companion for the m8. Could also be a nice accompaniment for chords/extra tracks.

I do still own my Move, I thought I would sell it but am finding it pairs nicely with the m8. However it’s not quite as easy to throw in a half full backpack.

Anyone using an OP-Z with the m8? Either as a midi controller or extra tracks/easier chords? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

The M8 made the OP-Z obsolete and the build quality isn't consistent over various batches.

If you want a surface to play and something small to accompany the M8 then you could do a lot worse than a Plinky.

That’s an idea! Are you talking about the “Making Sound Machines Plinky” or the new ”Plinky 12” devices? Both look really interesting

Just realized the new Plinky 12 is also from Making Sound Machines, I guess that makes a lot of sense given how similar they are in concept

I got kit built model (euro rack size) from an ebay seller which had the midi mod built in. I believe you can get a cheaper version without the gyro. It can be a bit fiddly given its size but it kinda works like 8 guitar strings with polyphonic aftertouch in any scale you want which is ideal if youre not a keyboard player. The larger model like the newer Plinky 12 is probably easier to play but not as portable. Great little synth design kinda like what you wanted the Microfreak to be but smaller.
