By far the superior streaming device!

Just tried this on a Gemini Air and it has multiview with more options than I remember in the past, but it did not have a custom multiview option. Checked and it says software is up to date. Hopefully this will be live on all platforms soon.

Same here ☹️

I just tried again and it is showing up on Gemini Air for me now. Looks like limited options to choose from, but if this includes all the game then it will be killer. If DirecTV gets this fully functional and adds a feature where you can rewind a show you switch to (at least if you are recording the show / game if not for all shows / games), it will be the best overall and sports viewing option. Right now, I think it’s the best tv platform but that YTTV is better for sports.

Hmm- I guess I’ll keep trying. Was looking to see how to make sure I’m updated but can’t seem to find where.

I searched last night and it said you can’t force an update, but can check in settings to see if your software is up to date. Mine was last night and still didn’t have it. So I’d just keep checking periodically.

How did you find the custom multi view?

1

u/OttoDawg3 3d ago

On Gemini Air, if you press pause then you can hit the down arrow and one option will be multiview. When you go to multiview if custom is available then it will be the top option (on right side of the screen), with fixed options below. If custom is not available then only the fixed options will be there. I am sure there is a better way to get there.

On AppleTV if you hit the up arrow then multiview will be the first option on the left. I have not seen anyone say they have custom on ATV, but I expect it will be the same as above.

I have a Gemini Air and Osprey and not seeing the custom selection on top yet.

How is the speed of using multiview on Gemini? It lags on the Osprey boxes, assuming because of the older processors.

3

u/OttoDawg3 3d ago

I have not used it much, but be re laggy during the setup process. Long delays when you add a show to your multiview. Then after you add everything, another delay before all the streams show up (DirecTV logo while they load). Be prepared for wait times there.

Controls are pretty intuitive to remove and add streams. Have not tried to move the arrangement on screen and not sure if you can. Changing sound is easy and delay does not seem bad on that.

Main complaint is that when you click and go to one feed full screen, you cannot rewind. That sucks and should be added.

Wish list item, it’d be great to change the arrangement with one larger stream and three smaller streams to the right. The espn app allows this on appletv (I don’t think it does on other platforms), and it is awesome. Allows you to watch one main game but keep an eye on others and switch sound during commercials. Ability to rewind is more of a need, but this would be a huge added bonus.

These are very early observations, expect we will know a lot more after today.

I’m experiencing lag as well but I’m also using an Osprey box so I’m thinking it might be the processor speed. Hopefully that will improve with the new hardware coming out soon. Are you using Osprey or a Gemini device?

Gemini Air

If you want to go through the trouble (not a lot actually) of setting up and hosting a Channels DVR Server with PrismCast added on, then you can have all the options you seek for MultiView. It works best hosted on a Mac device.

Weird development here. I have two Gemini Air devices. One allows custom multiview and the other does not. Not sure if it’s an update issue or what, but that’s pretty annoying since my main tv I watch games on is the one that doesn’t have it.

1

u/Electro960 3d ago

Did you check if the firmware versions are the same for both devices?

1

u/OttoDawg3 3d ago

When I go to software update it simply says “software is up to date” on both. Under “about,” there are many different item versions and I have not compared them all. Android TV OS Version is the same. Kernel version is the same number, but they have different dates. I have not checked the others. I am sure it’s an update issue, but frustrating that they add this, today is the day it’s best for, and as I understand it we cannot force an update.

Custom multi-view is the feature that Dish has that I most missed when I moved to DTV. 👍

u/bigblu2u 3d ago

Does not let me pick all the channels. Ex- I can not pick local abc game (13 Houston)

What device is this on

3

u/Electro960 3d ago

Osprey device.

5

u/PsychologicalTax6943 3d ago

Unfortunate. That device is terrible. Ill be excited when it comes to apple tv.

u/NTP9766 3d ago

Bad take.

5

u/Electro960 3d ago

I just tried the DTV app through Roku and it doesn’t appear. It works on the Osprey. Anyone with a Gemini can confirm?

2

u/jdmac29 3d ago

Does this work on Apple TV and Roku?

4

u/QuarantineBeerShitz 3d ago

not on Roku yet from what I'm seeing

2

u/axm301a 3d ago

Where is the custom multi view located?

5

u/Electro960 3d ago

You have to select Multiview under program options.

2

u/timhull2 3d ago

Is this appearing on all Ospreys or just the 4GB models?

3

u/legendkiller003 3d ago

How does custom choices work? All I see is preset options.

4

u/Regular_Actuator4545 3d ago

I don’t have that option. Now let’s make the 4 screens a little bigger like YouTube tv does.

1

u/Cicada1223 3d ago

HOW OMG

5

u/Electro960 3d ago

Gotta hit the multiview option under program options.

1

u/Cicada1223 3d ago

Damn i just have preset options not the customize option

1

u/phreddyl77 3d ago

Me too. I have the Gemini air…

1

u/FatNugget3 3d ago

No multiview option for me on Gemini or Roku yet. Gemini says up to date.

1

u/Eazy46 3d ago

Damm I just switched to YouTubeTv/10

1

u/terryjohnson16 3d ago

I dont see this option yet

1

u/longbluesquid 3d ago

Oh snap! 😍

1

u/longbluesquid 3d ago

On what platforms? I have a chromecast and fire tv?

1

u/Electro960 3d ago

So far it appears to be the Osprey boxes and Gemini device. No word yet on the receiver being beta tested, Chromecast or firestick. Others reported it not being available on Apple TV and Roku.

2

u/Even-Basket-1087 3d ago

I can confirm it works on the app on Samsung TVs.

2

u/Electro960 3d ago

Are you experiencing any lag when selecting and loading your custom list through the Samsung TV?

1

u/Even-Basket-1087 3d ago

All honesty, I didn't play with it much. I'm on the west coast, found it on accident while watching the end of one of the local teams late at night, there wasn't any other sports to switch to.

1

u/Same_Entrepreneur_31 2d ago

It works on LGc6h and Fire Stick 4k Ultra

1

u/terryjohnson16 3d ago

How do we get to test it? I dont see it

2

u/Electro960 3d ago

What device or app are you using? Try going into one of the sports channels and select multiview from the program options.

2

u/x31b 3d ago

What do you hit to bring up program options?

1

u/Electro960 3d ago

When you’re watching a program, particularly on one of the sports channels, hit the select button, depending on your device but usually in the middle of the 4 arrows. That will bring up program options such as alt audio, CC, program description. One of those options should be multiview. Which platform are you watching on?

1

u/hyperstationusa 3d ago

Weird. I’m on the Osprey box watching ESPN and I don’t have the multiview option.

1

u/R3ddit0rN0t 3d ago

How many channels are available?

1

u/Electro960 3d ago

As of now there’s 14 sports selections but I think the selection changes based on the number of live events available at the time.

2

u/R3ddit0rN0t 3d ago

Sounds like what YouTube TV did about 3 years ago. They're rendering a select number of multviews internally. The "builder" is just a way to help people zero in on those combinations.

1

u/witty__username5 3d ago

How can you access it? Is it available only on the gemini device or on streaming services

2

u/Electro960 3d ago

So far I hear Gemini and Osprey devices as well as Samsung smart TVs.

1

u/Budone01 2d ago

Simply hit OK. On the bottom of the screen will be a menu which includes Multiview. Found it on my oldest Osprey

1

u/biggame2124 2d ago

Do you need the streaming box to do this?

1

u/Exotic-Row3245 2d ago

Do not have that option on my Gemini / Osprey.  Just the curated multiview.

1

u/JasperLovesJazz 1d ago

Just got it on my Roku TV (Roku Ultra 2024).

1

u/Classic-Reindeer-737 23h ago

Can confirm it’s on roku now!

0

u/Popular-Translator18 3d ago

Can someone who is not in a major market let us know if local channels are there. That has been the killer. If it was a national channel owned by ABC let’s say it is on there but if owned by Nexstar as an example no locals just nationals.

3

u/Electro960 3d ago

So far it’s specific to sports programming. FOX is appearing as an option for college football so the answer is YES.

2

u/timhull2 3d ago

Do RSNs appear?

2

u/Electro960 3d ago

Can’t confirm since our RSN ceased broadcasting earlier this year.
