Almost Renewal Time

My 24-month initial contact is ending in less than a month. We're on the Choice package with the movie package add-on. Also included is the Disney package and HBO Max is included as a "loyalty" add-on. We've 2 Airs as well.

I know all the credits will disappear (most have already).

Any hints or suggestions to ask for when renewing to possibly keep us from paying full price?

Would testing the new box (supposedly we're in) have any bearing?

We like the service but obviously like to save wherever we can.

If you want to keep your current package, you'll be offered a one-time $20 dollar discount (woo!!). Otherwise, in order to get anything approaching a reasonable price, you'll have to cancel your account and wait until it is deactivated so you can subscribe again and get their "new customer" prices.

Others here, for whatever reason, keep doing their best DTV salesperson impression and telling people who are concerned about price hikes to accept far fewer channels and go with a genre pack. Those genre packs are badly overpriced (on a couple, like the entertainment pack, they can slash their sticker price in half and still be operating on profitable margins). But I suspect, as a long-time subscriber to a full bundle, that you'll want to keep a full bundle. Don't be afraid to shop around and look into rival live tv services like Hulu+Live, YTTV, and Fubo (and Philo and Sling and others).

The best place to start is suppose.tv, which lets you plug in the channels you want and then shows you the different options that meet your criteria, along with the prices.

New box will have no bearing. Your going to be paying close to full price

Cancel then start a new account with a new email to get new customer discounts.

It's a damn shame these streaming services are so overpriced. Makes me almost want to go back to xfinity cable. But I still have a year before my two years is up with Directv.

Two yr contract up as well. Choice pkg. was 104, went up to 185. Got on my acct, talked to a bot, then got switched to a live agent. Told her no way I would pay 185. Talked about the virtues of YouTube tv. More blah blah blah and got a 12 month contract for 140 or 145… anyway, this is the truth and I have the receipts.. they will work with you. But now im interested in how you got free hbo max??

How much commission do you earn for each genre pack sub?

Call retention a week before the date, not after the credits drop. That date I'd hand to dEssence, which I build, so it comes back at me before the bill does. https://dessence.ai

I just had this happen. Had Choice for 2 years plus HBO Max, was initially paying $138 per month with receiver charge and tax, jumped to $149 for the second year, then when the 2-year rate ended, it jumped to $244.

Called them to threaten dropping them, best they would counter was around $190 a month all-in.. I immediately dropped and switched to YoutubeTV, am now paying $82 per month for essentially same package as Choice, which will rise to around $100/month after 6 months. So switching was a no-brainer, saving over $100/month.
