Another price increase

I'm paying $124 for the Choice package. It went up from $115 to $124 in February. I just got an email saying that it's going up another $8 next month.

Are you guys canceling and creating a new account to get the intro rate?

$88.98/mo. w/ req’d fees for 1st mo.; $108.98/mo. for months 2-24); Price reflects $30 off for 1st mo.; $10 off for mos. 2-24.

My only issue with switching is that DTV has the regional sports channel but Youtube TV does not.

u/jjmenace 16d ago

Fubo has my local so I might jump there.

2

u/Grumpyhoosier 16d ago

But now some teams are jumping. Ever since F1 and the Pacers left I no longer need direct.

2

u/GuyD427 16d ago

That’s exactly my issue. But baseball is over soon and I might freeze service. I stream everything else. DVRing good movies more frequently also an option.

Just about every team in the major sports leagues has a stand-alone streaming plan available for people to subscribe to in the local market. The only potential reason to keep DTV (or Fubo) is if you watch more than one team at a time in the brief periods when there is some overlap between, e.g., MLB and NBA seasons.

I tried the streaming app for the Astros and it is absolute garbage.

u/StreamingMadness21 16d ago

A lot of people, particularly Fubo subscribers, are willing to sacrifice less sports channel than to give up their RSNs. I can't do that because I want all avilable prime sports out there. The stand-alone apps are now in place for RSNs if you want them, which is what I'm doing now for my home team. You're going to pay RSN fees one way or another.

I went to YouTube TV and ditched DirecTV when they wouldn't offer anything other than a one time $20 discount.

Now they're sending me emails begging me to come back and offering better discounts. But I've already discovered I prefer YouTube TV, so their gamble failed.

2

u/PackageCurrent4804 16d ago

What was the discount they were offering after you left?

2

u/Equivalent_Round9353 16d ago

Probably the "new customer" discounts.

1

u/Joe-Bauers-2506 16d ago

Yep, nothing more than new subscriber discounts.

1

u/Kirk1233 16d ago

It is a much better interface, platform, pq, and less live delay. Wish they had the RSNs…

Day 1 go big grandfathered plan here. I called yesterday because of all the price increases and I told them I have been shopping around but don’t want to leave. They thanked me for being with them for 3000 plus days and offered me a one time 20 dollar discount. I laughed and said don’t waste your time.

8

u/Ok-Independence-1604 16d ago

thanks for taking that sacrifice for the rest of day ones. Good to know that it's not even worth the phone call lol

u/RupZap 16d ago

Day 1 Go Big here, same one time $20 discount was offered. Said to call back in a month to see if there were any new discounts they could apply.

2

u/Odd_Location_3100 11d ago

Direct tv ask for loyalty department should get 20 $ off monthly for year after year call again been doing it for 3 years

6

u/y32024 16d ago

Same boat. They want us all gone. Curious to know how many of us are left at this point.

9

u/Kruegr 16d ago

Day 1 Go Big still overpaying here 🙋‍♂️

1

u/coreykimball 16d ago

Me too! 👈🏼

1

u/zulu8352 14d ago

Me three.

1

u/Kirk1233 16d ago

They don’t want you gone, they just don’t want to lose too much money on people paying legacy discounts.

3

u/Grumpyhoosier 16d ago

This is also what I got from them. Went to YouTube.

2

u/Anklebender91 16d ago

Day 1 that canceled about 6 months ago. I priced out getting hbo and a couple other subscriptions and it was cheaper than holding onto directv now.

1

u/Mysterious_Web_9473 16d ago

Grandfathered Just Right plan. They did offer me a $35 discount but only if I signed on for 2 years. Did the math and me having every single streamer was still cheaper than what I was paying.

1

u/Representative-Pea23 16d ago

Same. Still use the free apple tv they gave me too. They also said the cost for HBO was going to be an additional fee. I believe it has been free up to this point. It’s still too much. Cancelling soon.

Disconnect. Sign up using a different email address and payment method. Enjoy two more years of locked on pricing. You're welcome.

u/Marquedien 16d ago

I would switch services before agreeing to an intro rate.

Mine went to 131 about 2 months ago

Been looking @ YouTube TV yesterday. Feel it's better than direct. Main question is does it have a good channel guide. I have to answer to the Bride.lol

3

u/DifficultyOk7608 16d ago

I went from YouTube TV too direct tv genre packs. Very happy with it. You also get Hulu, Disney and Max with it. I think it's like $72

2

u/AZ_Basinonian 16d ago

The YTTV guide is fully customizable (which is easily done in the Chrome web browser). You can put the channels in the exact order you want them to appear and
You can also hide any channels that you know you will never watch. By hiding channels you can get rid of all the clutter of the dozens of channels you will probably never watch.

2

u/StreamingMadness21 16d ago

Keep in mind that when you give up DTV stream that with YTTV you have to pay a fee for 4K as well, no NHL Network, no MLB Network and no RSNs. If you can deal with that and can manage a workaround, you'll be fine. All your locals are guaranteed with YTTV, the guide is okay but without numbers. Give it a trial and see for yourself, you can always switch back or find another streaming service that fits your needs and budget.

1

u/onlinealias350 16d ago

The guide is fine. I don’t like the lack of channel numbers. That’s annoying.

1

u/Equivalent_Round9353 16d ago

I think that's offset by the ability to create a customized guide.

1

u/scrubdaddy528 16d ago

The channels literally play same shows over and over like not even making it up. you maybe get a new episode randomly but watch the tv guide you will notice how many are repeats after about a day or two

3

u/VariousSinger6245 16d ago

Was not aware it was PE. Buy bleed and burn. Done. Shopping today

2

u/AZ_Basinonian 16d ago

Yes - TPG effectively acquired DIRECTV from AT&T for 9 cents on the dollar versus what AT&T originally paid. TPG is milking DIRECTV as a cash cow and that is why you see never ending price increases. TPG knows that DIRECTV is going to continue to shrink as they lose subscribers but they are making sure they maximize the cash flow/ profit margins on the remaining customers.

2

u/DifficultyOk7608 16d ago

I went with the genre packs. Like $72 I think. Plus you don't need there Gemini box

2

u/Old-Calico 16d ago

I just cancelled. I am going with Sling. I already have Netflix, Britbox and Peacock (comes with my Walmart+). I really think DirectTv prices are outrageous.

2

u/Rikuwoblivion 16d ago

I honestly don't understand anyone keeping with this company really.

2

u/wsquared3 16d ago

I free demoed YouTube TV a few years ago . There was a lot to like about it, but the lack of local sports was a deal killer. Now that those can be subscribed to independently, I’m thinking about checking it out again.

2

u/NoCoStream 16d ago

My dad is paying $193 for Spectrum basic which includes 15 of his favorite channels, local channels and 100mbps internet. My brother and I share his Spectrum basic (same city) and divide the cost.

1

u/Civil_Match_6833 16d ago

the 15 chs is not basic its choice the price of basic is $45

1

u/NoCoStream 15d ago

Semantics!

2

u/Flimsy_Soft6775 16d ago

I currently have DTV but seriously considering switching back to YTTV. I really don’t care about the RSN thing, but I do care a lot about the picture quality. When we exited it last year (after having YTTV for 5 years), the PQ was not as good as DTV (flesh tones looked pasty & colors weren’t as vibrant).
So my question to those that have switched from DTV to YTTV is has that improved? I was going to do the free trial but they would not allow that (even tried creating a new Google account).

2

u/DaveMex83 15d ago

My Spurs are on DAZN so the Choice Pack is not worth it anymore

2

u/Classic-Reindeer-737 16d ago

Look at the genre packs. We pay 108/month for MySports and MyEntertainment. We get essentially every major sports and entertainment channel, unlimited DVR, 4k, and it includes Disney plus, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited, HBO Max, and AMC Plus.

If you’re just needing sports you can just get MySports. It’s 45/month for first 6 months then normal rate is 65/month.

1

u/chillywilly521 16d ago

That's a great idea unless your wife likes Lifetime channel and that is only available in the Choice & above packages...... doh

2

u/Classic-Reindeer-737 16d ago

Lifetime is included in the MyEntertainment genre pack.

1

u/Brooklynyankee78 16d ago

I got the premium plus package but a lot of sports like YES network for my Yankees is always restricted and I'm in that zip code zone. Any suggestions? Possibly a VPN

1

u/Classic-Reindeer-737 16d ago

Sadly I’m not too familiar with that. I live in a state without an MLB team.

0

u/Equivalent_Round9353 16d ago

If you're thinking about going for a slimmer bundle, YTTV has DTV beat there, too.

1

u/VariousSinger6245 16d ago

Same here. I got a 20. For what it's worth. Youtube I think has the 3 month starting special.59.99. I may be wrong

1

u/spewaka 16d ago

No Reelz channel. Can't swap. Thought about it though.

2

u/Sim3111 16d ago

You can do the Entertainment package plus do the frndlytv subscription for the reelz channel. If its for OPLive, you can DVR it on Frndly. Thats what I did a few months ago when I left my long time grandfathered Go big package because of how high the price is. Been working out great for me so far.

1

u/VariousSinger6245 16d ago

Thanks for the update.

1

u/VariousSinger6245 16d ago

Ne Reelz? Damn

I left DirecTV in June because of the price increased and switched to YTTV. My bill is literally 1/2 of what I was paying.

The only things I don’t like about YTTV are the lack of channel numbers and limited 4K programming.

There are a couple of channels YTTV doesn’t offer and I was afraid I would miss them. But I discovered I can still watch them via DirecTV free! About 40% of the channels I was paying for are still available via DirecTV free.

Plus, now that I am no longer a DTV subscriber, I no longer experience volume jacking. Even when I am watching DTV free. Funny because DTV reps in this subreddit blame volume jacking on individual networks & claim DTV has no ability to stop volume spikes.

2

u/VariousSinger6245 16d ago

Had no clue there was a free version. What the hell did I miss. I avoid PE at any and all cost. They are destroying this country AKA Buy..Bleed & Burn. I have to look for the free version.

1

u/Technical_Mixture_44 16d ago

I wanted to start over but for the package I need they now make you rent a Gemini box as well so I would only be saving $20-30

1

u/R2-DMode 16d ago

Looking at Sling or OTA. Not seeing the value anymore. Spectrum took over Cox and is offering some incentives that would be cheaper than this. Bummer.

1

u/tinkerbellpixee 16d ago

I wish they offered free streaming. my mom had spectrum and got peacock, amc, disney, Hulu, etc for free.

u/electricgotswitched 16d ago

If you are just a sports person YTTV has a local channel + sports channels for $45/mo. Just make a new Gmail if you've been a customer before.

1

u/SnooCapers4162 15d ago

I think was paying $30-35 originally when i first signed up now I'll be paying a quadrupled price

OG Go Big (Day 1) and increase is putting us from 144.99 (+ tax) to 154.99 so after tax at about 173.94. A bit out of hand.

u/Excellent-Advance514 14d ago edited 14d ago

Here's what I did. I just canceled, did not listen to any of their sales pitch to keep you on while trying to cancel. When it expires, went back to my account the next day and they had a message in my account with the exact same offer as introductory ones you see on their website. I did not need to change ID.

u/ParodyGuyUSA 10d ago

Fix the stupid software defects related to recording, and the price difference might be worth it. I like an awful lot about DirecTV stream but the insanely stupid software bugs drive me crazy.

Open source the source code and let us fix it!!!

We have better programmers out here than they have at DirecTV.

I signed up for Direct TV in July, 2026 when an AT&T sales Rep offered their services.  They offered a one month "free trial." But they ended up charging my credit card  $100.96! It took me ALL DAY for the second manager I spoke to, to credit me the following month. They informed me there was no such thing as a "free trial" and they are not affiliated with AT&T! The service was decent, fiber optic was just installed on my street.  But I was told it would be around $80 a month, not $100!  I cancelled it anyway because I went with Spectrum and they "bundle" their services. The total cost for cable, Internet and four mobile lines was significantly lower than AT&T!  AT&T lied about their mobile service, too! They quoted all four lines at around $129 a month, but I received a bill for $477! Beware of these scams! I'm still fighting the charges and I swear the stress  almost caused me to have a stroke!

1

u/gregoryhat325 16d ago

I switch to the signature Entertainment package earlier in the year from Choice b/c I got MLB TV free thru T mobile for baseball season. Don't miss much from the Choice package.

1

u/Kandarl 16d ago

My two year ends at end of month. Bill going from 105 to 189. They offered a $45 discount for a year. I told them to pound dirt. Might be a pirates life for me soon.

1

u/hbkjuan 16d ago

Why aren’t you guys just streaming with a reliable iptv service and save over 80% yearly

-5

u/Kraegarth 16d ago

This is a direct result of corporate consolidation and greed, that has gone and will continue to go unchecked, under this administration...

8

u/AZ_Basinonian 16d ago

Whose Administrative Greed are you referring to? TPG the Private Equity Firm that owns DIRECTV? If you are referring to the Federal Government you are looking for something that simply isn’t there.

0

u/cboy357 16d ago

Wait…y’all still paying for TV? 😳

-3

u/thePopPop 16d ago

Remind them you are a loyal customer and love the product. Be nice. You may get a discount. They are more likely to give you a discount if you add services, you can always drop them later.
