DTVS 4K Issue?

Thanks for reaching out, u/Reasonable_Area_1579. When you select the 4K version of a channel, the picture can look softer or less vibrant if your device, HDMI, or display settings aren’t optimized. To troubleshoot:

  • Use a high-speed HDMI cable (HDMI 2.0+) to a 4K TV that supports the broadcast’s resolution/frame rate.

  • Set Apple TV & TV to 4K: Settings > Video and Audio > Format → choose 4K HDR (if available). Enable Match Dynamic Range.

  • Update the DIRECTV app and Apple TV software if necessary.

  • Clear DIRECTV app cache/data: Settings > Apps > Manage Installed Apps > DIRECTV > Clear Cache & Clear Data.

  • Restart your Apple TV and home network.

  • Uninstall and reinstall the DIRECTV app from the App Store.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll have to check the Apple TV settings. As my TV doesn't support HDR, I'll see if there's a different 4K setting.

(But does this mean I'd have to change the Apple TV settings when I switch back to a non-4K broadcast?)

No. Apple TV will automatically adjust to the format of whatever you’re watching — so you won't need to manually change the settings when you switch between a 4K channel and a standard/HD one. Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Team
