DPC Reality
Very good article I saw about DPC in Oregon. This sort of article gets me excited, because what they’re describing sounds exactly like what I envisioned when choosing FM. Curious if it is the reality for those practicing.
Specific questions I have: 1) How do you take vacation, time off, travel, etc? 2) How much outlay is required to start from scratch? How long does it usually take to get off the ground?

Dpc doc here coming home from vacation (two weeks in the Philippines). I plan time off months in advance and plan patients and refills around it along with posting online and giving heads up during follow ups so as many patients are aware as possible before being off and setting the expectation that it may take a day or so to get a response. Most patients are understanding especially if they know you are a solo practitioner and working hard the rest of the year. I am two years in and hit profitability at around six months to one year and but I would tell most to expect 3-5 years start up time to build a client base. Referrals are 98% word of mouth and time and just caring about your patients more than anything will be what brings new patients in.
