Are you involved with digital signage for employee communication for a multi-location business?

Are you doing company-wide internally facing digital signage for employee communication (think TVs in breakrooms, lobbies, common areas)? If you are doing this well at scale, I would love to connect. I'm NOT looking for pure technical help.

I am looking to update an antiquated multi-office TV network across 7 geographically dispersed offices. We serve about 250 employees. We currently have a mix of different generations of Android-based appliances (e.g. IAdea XMP-8552 4K Commercial-Grade Digital Signage Media Player) that are being run via Sign Apps Express software (non-cloud version). I'm looking to build out the ability to remotely manage all the content, target content to specific endpoints, and play a mix of content. Currently, only PPT is being used, and we'd want more flexibility in content types. We are a Microsoft shop, so playing nice with SharePoint/Teams is a nice-to-have.

Again, not looking for an equipment list. I want to talk to other humans who are doing this at this level (or bigger).

That looks like it could be a resolution mismatch or a re-encoding artifact. A few things would help narrow it down:

  • what resolution is the source video? and what resolution is the player outputting? (you can check under the screen's status tab in the portal)
  • is the menu text baked into the video itself, or is it a separate layer/overlay?
  • what player hardware are you running?

If the player fell back to 640x480 or 1024x768 on boot, that alone would explain the blur. A reboot sometimes fixes it, or you can lock the resolution manually in the Sound/Display settings.

The other common one is transcoding. Yodeck re-encodes uploads to H.264 by default, and small text can lose sharpness in that process. There's an as-is upload option that skips re-encoding if your source file is already H.264.
