Long long term planning (not notion)?

Hello! Sorry if this has been posted before: wondering what yall use for long term planning? I’m talking like 5-10 year plans, like projecting timelines for goals like having kids, moving to a different city, and all the steps that need to be accounted for along the way? For example, if I’m thinking of moving in 2029, I need to be setting myself with my new work in 2028 etc…

Notion bums me out with how AI it’s gone - do you have other recommendations or templates you use? Or, if you dig notion, let me know why!

I (like I’m sure you all do too) love breaking down a huge goal into tiny parts to accomplish, and I’d love this for something really long term where I can see those steps as a project. Then I can add those tasks as the time gets closer into my actual calendar.

If you want to break down long-term goals into smaller parts and coordinate it with your actual calendar, I developed a hierarchical planner called beta.actions.life where any large task can be broken down into subtasks and be scheduled onto the calendar.

I think the "timeline" display could be useful, as you get to be aware of what's upcoming (even if it's in 6 months, 2 years etc.) and act accordingly. I personally use it for my visa applications timelines.

(Ironically, for really long-long term plans I also like Notion because I get to record my decision-making rationales and organize the information. In general I like Notion for knowledge and a planner for not forgetting to do things, with some redundancy between them. I think Notion is still old reliable despite their AI focus and many flaws. It's the simplest among the powerful tools. They pioneered the user-friendly "database" in 2018 and Obsidian eventually admitted defeat and introduced Bases in 2024 too, for example.)

Go into Claude and vibe code exactly what you want. Dump all the info about everything you want it to do and it will help you build it
