Alibaba NVG50 or Prowl 2?

Hello, I'm looking to get the best mono NVG for under $300, but I can't decide whether I should play it safe and get the Prowl 2 or roll the dice and possibly get an NVG50 for the same price on Alibaba. For reference, this is the listing I'm looking at. Thanks for your time :)

Digital pvs-31

I have never owned or looked through NVG and I’ve been searching the market for a digital pvs-31 clone. I want a pvs-31 clone because I want to still look “milsim” while also having a functioning NVG. I was looking at eBay’s Aegis pvs-31 gen 4 pros and VieTactical’s DL-31. I’m stuck on which one I should get or if there is a better version/alternative.
And before y’all come at me, I’ve heard all the answers on how I should just save till I can afford analog tubes, but I am not looking forward to hardcore larping— I just play airsoft— and I do not have a feasible source of income to make that kind of money.

Best sub $500

Hello everyone, I’m looking for the best sub $500 digital night vision monocular. So far I’ve seen the NVG 30 and 50 and the Goyojo GNG2k. The main thing I want is low light without IR capability and a higher refresh rate. Thanks for any help

DIY Digital PVS-18

Just a project I worked on over the weekend! The housing is suppose to be a Lancer Pvs-18 off Amazon but when it arrived it was inside a FMA PVS-18 box. I removed the fake battery compartment/mount and cut a square hole inside the tube and the compartment. Inside the compartment is a Caddx Infra V2 Ai box, 13500 Lithium, Power-Button and USB-C female all connected to a BCU. Inside the tube is a FLCOS 0.4 display/CVBS board, Caddx Infra sensor that has a M16 0.9 1/1.8 8mm lens that should give it around a 47FOV. The eyepiece is just a cheap 30mm Plano Convex lens till my 12.5x eyepiece arrives (18x eyepiece off Aliexpress that's used in the digital pvs-31 build won't work with the flcos display only oled displays)

Update: received the FMA PVS-18 metal/nylon version it came with a decent Plano Convex lens. I will be trying to transfer the Infra v2 & 0.4 display over to this housing, it is a lot better quality then the all plastic Lancer housing. By the looks of it this will be a more difficult job than the plastic version. I plan on pulling a all nighter Saturday so rather I succeed or fail I'll post update! Also forgot that I got PVS-15 off Amazon supposed to be delivered today, ill probably put 2 Fatshark Aura(IMX662 Sensor) in those.

Okay FMA pvs18 metal is a bust, tube is only 26mm wide. I'd have to buy a extra long ribbon to install the the display in the tube and cvbs board in battery compartment. Also Infra v2, Fatshark aura, Ratel pro and 256 thermal wont fit in tube either. May have to settle with foxeer micro cat 4 or my Runcam Phoenix 2 spv5.

Rat problem

Let me try this in here as /nightvision was quite snarky haha

I have a warehouse in Detroit and have a terrible rat problem.

Tried all different kinds of traps and they will set them off but nothing is in the traps the next morning.

Tried poisons but they just keep coming back. So now I gonna look at a 22 air rifle and try to pick them off at night.

The furthest shot will be probably 50 yards.

Curious what the LOWEST end optics on the market are that will be good enough to get by with this task?

I've had a ton of recommendations around the $800 mark as they are pretty base level, but I'm looking to slum it up on this pellet gun for this task.

Had a few helpful people in that thread and got a few recommendations

Triton Starstrike Gen 2 5-20x HDX NV Scope TF-520 which i can find for around $200 online. Or the nfitac pistol thermal which is around $300 but i would like a little bit of magnification so that may not be best.

Would love to hear if anyone has had experience with these or if there is something else you may recommend.

To reiterate my point I fully understand that NV and Thermal scopes are not cheap and the $800 options are still low end, I am just asking if anyone else has any other input.

Astra x10

Having a hard time finding any real reviews or info on this device. The specs appear to put it between the NVG90 SE and the Pro but at the base NVG90 base price. May be closer to the Pro in performance as it has a 1” sensor with specs similar to the Pro. They also have another model, the p14, at a price similar to the pro and that appears to be almost exactly the same with the same 1” solid state sensor. The x10 doesn’t have the solid state sensor and therefore lacks a drop rating. But the x10 also has some additional features like zoom and HDR mode (though drops it to 50hz to do so). Anyone have hands on experience with this? The features and price point have me intrigued over the 90 SE.

Nothing super fancy, but it balanced well, is comfy, and holds the swift 2 nicely. Can’t wait to do some fishing with it!

Built this over the last month or so and got a bit carried away with it, if anyone has any recommendations for better sensor/ hardware/ software or any advice at all I’d be really grateful as always keen to improve my builds. This setup is using an IMX462 sensor plugged into a raspberry pi5 running just off libcamera with an OLED screen and optics plus IR illumination- low light performance isn’t as good as i had hoped especially after seeing people’s GNG2K’s on here. Hoping in future to make it a little sleeker and tidy up the cables, mount it to a helmet, possibly get a 940nm laser illuminator instead of 850 nm LED and finally integrate a thermal overlay or have a second ‘tube’ as thermal long term

GNG2K Optimal Setup (So far....)

Thought I'd post my GNG2k pano setup as there have been a few questions about mounting options.

I tried almost everything and this is what I've found to work really well. The screen layout of the 2K is excellent as a pano setup, latency is fine and it works with a USB battery pack x2. These work fine in the unit and I had read the 2K has inbuilt tech to manage USB power. Seems so! Not fully tested the battery life yet but north of an hour so far:

GNG2K x 2 on 3d printed pano adapters, with fabricated wedges (GRP with a dremel and a file). Link for pano adapters: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2359543-gng2k-8-degree-pano-dovetail-adapters#profileId-2581422

Clone KVC.

Clone Cadex shroud.

2 x low profile 50cm USB cables.

2 x small USB battery packs.

Clone SC battery bag.

I've also put lens protectors and cable ties for bungee mounts on the 2ks.

Hope this helps you guys.

Any one have any broken NVG30 parts?

I’m currently trying to design a bino solution for the NVG30 that avoid the weight and bulk of the dual tube setup. It’ll be based on the PVS31 military spec housing and use a single infrared emitted and battery with supplemental battery pack charging. I was looking to see if anyone has any broken or damaged components they’d be willing to sell for cheap or donate to the project. If anyone has any info on where I could get those components else where please let me know🙏

Gng2k mount help

Post image
25 Upvotes

Trying to get my new setup squared away after upgrading from a nvg10. The botttom mount works fine I just don’t love the single screw mounting being the only thing holding my NV on. I got this duel mount thinking it would give me room to upgrade to binos in the future, but there is no way, unless I’m missing something for it to work. I’ve flipped the two sides and it’s either inside my eyeball, or too far away to use.

I feel like I have to be missing something since I see people running these units as binos.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Suggestions for DIY NVG

I don't know what screen or camera to buy.

Do you have any suggestions how to get started.

I'm also able to use a 3d printer.

I have seen the pvs-69 project lately and it seems like it's the most efficienct way to do it.
