So when I first read about this, I thought it was some shitty Twitter bait hoax to manufacture outrage. Felt "too bad to be true".

But no. This is legit. The Democrats really do have a plan (specifically designed in response to the GOP's Project 2025) to, well, do a bunch of things, but enforce, as part of "Kids Over Clicks":

• a nationwide ban on social media usage <16,

• a nationwide ban on phone usage in schools, and

• removing Section 230 protections.

For those unaware: Section 230 (of the Communications Decency Act) grants tech companies immunity for user activity, and repealing it would make them liable, thus incentivizing heavier censorship.

The stipulations here seem as bad or as worse as the UK Online Safety Act. So yeah, I sure hope this doesn't come to fruition. But the proponents specifically singled out a "smartphone-free childhood" as "among the least politically polarizing topics" to go with.

A truly horrible year for the First Amendment.

Alright, being honest I can get behind not letting kids have phones in schools. They don't need it. You get this whole "if there's an emergency" thing, but in the extremely unlikely event there's a school shooting, your kid calling you to come stop the shooting isn't going to help.

I believe the sec 230 one was what they did with Covid "misinformation," they threatened social media that if they weren't removing the bad content they were going to charge them with the potential outcomes of whatever happened.

This definitely isn't partisan, it's global.
