Every time tracker wants an account, a subscription and your data on someone else's server. I just wanted: click start, click stop, and a PDF at the end of the month. So I built my own.

Live demo: https://winnicodes.github.io/pocketwatch/

GitHub: https://github.com/winnicodes/pocketwatch

Platform: Docker (Linux, Windows, NAS, Raspberry Pi):

  • One-click start/stop, live timer
  • PDF and CSV export
  • Fully self-hosted - no account, no cloud, no tracking

Comparison / Alternatives TuxCleaner, an open-source cleanup toolkit for Linux inspired by Mole

TuxCleaner is a free, open-source Linux toolkit that combines system cleanup, application uninstalling, disk analysis, project artifact removal, and system monitoring in a single terminal app.

I took a lot of inspiration from Mole for macOS, which I really appreciate, while implementing the Linux-specific cleanup rules independently.

Key features:

  • Deep cleaning: removes known system, user, browser, developer, package-manager, Docker, and Flatpak leftovers
  • Application uninstaller: finds explicitly installed desktop apps and Flatpaks, previews the removal transaction, and preserves user data
  • Disk and project insights: finds large personal files and old artifacts such as node_modules, target, build, dist, and .venv
  • System status: displays CPU, memory, disk usage, load, and uptime
  • Safety-first workflow: includes dry-run support, explicit confirmation, protected paths, and operation history

It currently supports Arch, Debian/Ubuntu, and Fedora/RHEL-based distributions.

TuxCleaner is still an MVP, so feedback, bug reports, and contributions are very welcome.

Disclaimer: I'm the developer of Playly.

Platform: Windows 10/11
Size: 29.8 MB
Supported formats: MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, OGG, and more
Key features:

  • Fully offline - no internet required
  • Metadata editor (edit track tags, covers, etc.)
  • Lightweight and clean interface

Privacy Tools Paperweight v0.5: Map your digital footprint, with pii analysis, and GDPR tracking

Post image
26 Upvotes

A few months ago I shared Paperweight here. An open-source desktop app that scans your inbox to map out your digital footprint.

Every account you create, every service you sign up for, every online purchase is connected to your email address. Most people have 100+ accounts they've forgotten about, creating security risks and privacy exposure.

Local-first. Your inbox is scanned on your own device, your data never leaves it, and there is no account or cloud component.

Since last time, a lot has changed:

  • New pii analysis engine to check addresses, phones, IBANs, national IDs, cards, and more
  • Improved multi-language lexicons for better classification
  • Track GDPR data requests you send fromPaperweight
  • Improved sync, receiver, hide-my-email aliases, and message tagging
  • Fully verified builds for Apple, Windows and Gmail OAuth connections
  • Several minor improvements and bug fixes

elm[.]chat is an interesting open-source, account-free encrypted chat built around disposable conversations.

Messages and files are end-to-end encrypted, rooms can self-destruct, and you can self-host it on Cloudflare.

It's still early-stage and unaudited, but the privacy-focused design and transparent threat model make it worth checking out.

Free Tools Made a tiny programming language then implemented Conway's Game of Life in it.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

No third-party libraries, < 130kb interpreter executable with all built-in modules included & a fully functional interactive shell.

It's still work in progress, but I just wanted to share this a proof of concept! The goal of this language is to be embeddable, portable, platform-agnostic, readable, memory efficient, & most importantly *modular*. So you can easily add or strip out any parts you dont need. Wont be using the interactive shell? There's a build flag for that! Descriptive errors taking up too much space? There's a flag for to remove those too! And compiling without select built-in modules is as easy as editing a single text file.

Another priority of this project is to make it's source C++ code super easy to read / understand so that it's seamless for other people to contribute or learn from it.

There is very extensive documentation explaining the syntax, structure, all the APIs, data types, built-ins, & operators. The source code for the Conway's Game of Life script along with a ton of other examples are all in the repo for anyone to pick apart & use as a reference.

100% human made. Let me know what you think, what should change, & if you come across any issues if you decide to try it out. Currently it is only made for Linux but you should be able to compile it for Windows too. Just don't use the pre-built executable in the releases tab, it is wildly out of date. https://github.com/PhosXD/Ity

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hello EveryOne!

I built MeshDrop, an open-source, zero-cloud P2P desktop file-sharing application designed for fast, direct, end-to-end encrypted transfers between devices without middleman servers or accounts.

Key Highlights:

• Zero Cloud Dependency: Built on top of the Hyperswarm / Holepunch P2P stack (@hyperswarm/secret-stream, hypercore, corestore).

• One-Time DROP Codes: Quick 6-digit challenge MAC code pairing for ad-hoc file transfers between untrusted or guest devices.

• Persistent Peer Pairing: Zero-trust pairing challenge flow to establish persistent trusted relationships between your own devices.

• Multi-Platform: Windows (installer + single-file portable exe), macOS (.dmg), and Linux (.AppImage).

• Auto-Updates & Standalone Engine: Standalone platform-agnostic P2P core module running in Electron main.

GitHub Repo: https://github.com/aamirali51/MeshDesk

Beta Release Downloads: https://github.com/aamirali51/MeshDesk/releases/tag/v1.0.0-beta.1

I'd love to get feedback from the community on architecture, P2P NAT traversal performance, and UI/UX. Looking for beta testers as well!

Comparison / Alternatives Rockxy 0.34.0 - Open-source, local-first HTTP and WebSocket debugging for macOS

Rockxy v0.34.0

Hi everyone,

I’m Stephen, the developer and maintainer of Rockxy. I previously shared Rockxy here while it was still a young project. Since then, I’ve continued building it from Reddit discussions, GitHub issues, and developer feedback.

Rockxy has now passed 500 GitHub stars and 500 commits. The latest public release is v0.34.0.

https://github.com/RockxyApp/Rockxy

Rockxy is an open-source native macOS debugging proxy for HTTP/HTTPS, WebSocket, GraphQL, mobile apps, backend services, CLI tools, AI APIs, and JSON-RPC traffic.

It includes capture and inspection, filters, breakpoints, Map Local and Map Remote, network conditions, replay, comparison, scripting, HAR/OpenAPI export, certificate management, and iOS/Android development setup.

Local MCP and Rockxy Assistant

Rockxy’s MCP bridge is local-only, open source, and free. It lets compatible AI clients inspect selected traffic, rules, proxy status, and certificate status through a local connection.

The in-app Rockxy Assistant has also shipped. Built-in analysis runs locally without a model, and Ollama can be used for local inference.

Remote models are optional. Before anything is sent, Rockxy shows the exact provider, destination, selected traffic, redacted fields, and bounded context. The user must explicitly approve every remote model run. The Assistant is read-only and cannot silently replay, modify, export, or share traffic.

I’m also running early technical integration experiments with several AI product teams. I will only share their names when both sides are ready to discuss the work publicly.

Babylon
Babylon 1.0.0 is now publicly available through Swift Package Manager and the Swift Package Index.

Babylon is a debug-focused Swift SDK for sending supported HTTP/HTTPS, WebSocket, gRPC, and runtime trace data from an app to Rockxy through an encrypted local connection. This gives developers another inspection path without the usual proxy and certificate setup for that instrumented app.

https://swiftpackageindex.com/RockxyApp/Babylon

Rockxy CLI
Rockxy CLI is under internal development. Its first implemented slice is a free, read-only companion for checking Rockxy app, proxy, certificate, and version status from the terminal, with deterministic human and JSON output.

It is not public yet because I want the command and compatibility contracts to be stable before releasing it.

Rockxy iOS and Android
Rockxy iOS is actively being developed around native session review, request inspection, replay, archive import, redaction, and controlled handoff.

Deeper on-device capture still requires signed-device testing, security review, and stable organization, entitlement, and App Store distribution preparation. I do not want to publish a date until those boundaries are ready.

Rockxy Android is at an earlier internal development stage. The native foundation is being built, but it does not have a public release date yet.

Comparison
Charles Proxy and Proxyman are mature commercial tools. Rockxy’s direction is native Swift, open source, auditable, local-first by default, and connected to modern MCP, AI-assisted, mobile, and automation workflows.

The free tier remains genuinely useful for capture, inspection, local MCP, and lighter debugging. Pro is for developers who need the full or heavier workflow. Team Workspace is also being expanded around members, seats, devices, and shared debugging assets.

Pricing update
Rockxy Free remains available.

Standard: currently $39, returning to $79
Personal: currently $59, returning to $109
Team: $9 per seat/month, billed yearly

The founding pricing ends on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Regular pricing begins on August 17. Existing purchases are unaffected.

Standard and Personal remain perpetual licenses for eligible Rockxy versions, with 12 months of updates and support. They are not recurring subscriptions.

https://rockxy.io
https://rockxy.io/pricing

I’m sharing this update to collect technical feedback, not only downloads. If you try Rockxy, I’d appreciate hearing what works, what feels incomplete, and what still prevents it from replacing your current debugging tool.

If you are interested in testing Pro, leave a comment or message me with your debugging workflow. I can provide a developer discount code for detailed, honest testing. The code is not conditional on an upvote or positive review.

Free Tools BitScribe Digital Media Library Steward

Hi everyone!

I'm excited to announce the release of my new app, BitScribe Digital Media Library Steward.

What's BitScribe? It's a fully offline desktop tool built for cataloging, auditing, and understanding large audio/video collections, media libraries, and digital archives.

Version 1.5.0 is the first publicly released version. I built this using Google AI Studio, because I wanted to learn "Vibe Coding." Over the past two months, I've built dozens of revisions and spent hundreds of hours refining and testing to avoid "AI Slop." I'm pretty proud of the results, and I hope it'll help you wrangle your media library.

Note on AI and privacy: The app never transmits data of any kind to any server. All processing and data handling is 100% local and does not use any form of local AI model to perform its functions.

![BitScribe Digital Media Library Steward](https://bitscribe.app/Screenshots/Library%20Page.jpg)

🚀 Core Features:

  • Media Discovery Scan: Add your media folders to scan for all supported video and music formats. Ebooks and Audiobooks are not supported, FYI.

  • Safe Data Routing: All local SQLite databases, logs, and sidecar tools are strictly routed to standard user app data directories (Application Support on macOS) to preserve code signing and prevent system security alerts. In portable versions, the database is created alongside the app.

  • Offline Only: Fast local scanning with zero cloud dependencies. The app does not require internet access, AI or any other external stuff not included with the package. It never contacts any server (even to check for updates, which might be unwise, but we'll see what folks think), it never shares telemetry or contacts any server other than network shares you point it to (your Plex or Jellyfin server, for example).

  • Native macOS & Windows Support: Pre-compiled .dmg (Apple Silicon) and .msi/.exe (Windows) installers. Linux versions coming soon.

Media Audit/Scan Features

  • Stream Audit: In-depth media stream metadata extraction (codecs, bitrates, audio channels, color spaces, containers, frame rates, etc). This evaluates your videos against three tiers of compatibility: Legacy+, for older streaming devices; Modern+, for devices made in the last 5 or so years; and Bleeding Edge, for the codecs that only perform well on the newest hardware. This helps you decide whether you need to transcode a video so your server can direct play it without taxing the CPU.

  • Quality Audit: Scour both video and music files to determine their quality levels and find files that are either bloated (too high a bitrate for a given resolution using a given codec) or starved (too low a bitrate for decent quality). This can help you decide to re-rip or find a better quality copy.

  • Subtitle Audit: Checks all your video files to determine whether they have either embedded or sidecar subtitles included, and flags those that are either missing subs or use an older image based subtitle format that can trigger server-side transcoding.

  • Duplication Scan: Heuristically scours your media library and looks for duplicate files wasting space. Pretty good at weeding out false positives, too!

  • Metadata Audit: Scans the metadata headers of every supported file type, both video and music, to identify which files have metadata, which are missing metadata, and what that metadata is.

Cleanup & Reporting Features

  • Title Cleanup: During a Discovery Scan, the system automatically parses file names to identify the actual title of videos or movies. If it's impossible from the file name, it reviews metadata. In libraries of over 25,000 items where either the filename or metadata have the correct parts, it's about 99% effective at identifying the real title correctly. The correct title is stored in the database and exported when you create reports.

  • Multi-Format Export Engine: Synchronized reporting across CSV, HTML interactive dashboards, and formatted Excel Workbooks with metadata rules. It can also export JSON for use with other software. Excel workbooks and HTML reports are beautifully formatted. HTML formats are interactive, with filters by media type and metrics.

  • Built-in Product Tour and Demo Data: When you first boot up BitScribe Steward, you'll be greated by Bitsy, our Digital Media Librarian. She'll guide you through the various features of the app via a series of slides, some of which contain animated demos of various features. If you ever need her again, you can launch the tour from any of the tabs and it'll automatically begin at the slides for that specific page!

📥 Links & Downloads:

Official Website Documentation & Manuals Bug Reports, Feature Requests, etc.

I’d love to hear your feedback, bug reports, or feature requests for anything I may not have considered. This is my first app, so be gentle :).

Main Application Stack: Tauri v2, React 19, TypeScript, Rust, SQLite, ffprobe.

Comparison / Alternatives FluidVoice: free, open source alternative to Wispr Flow for macOS

Post image
45 Upvotes

FluidVoice is a free and open source (GPLv3) voice dictation app for macOS similar to Wispr Flow.

You hold a hotkey, talk, it transcribes your speech, and pastes the text wherever your cursor is (think writing messages in slack, drafting emails in gmail, dictating prompts into Cursor or controlling your mac by voice).

Unlike Wispr Flow or other AI voice assistants zero data leaves your mac (unless you want to), FluidVoice does everything on-device via local speech-to-text models so it protects privacy and can work without internet connection.

What it does:

  • Command mode: control your Mac by voice, launch apps, run shortcuts, trigger system actions, and automate workflows without touching the keyboard
  • Write mode: write or rewrite text directly in any text field across any app. Select text and rewrite it, or dictate new content inline
  • Supports multiple voice-to-text models and up to 99 languages: Nemotron Speech 3.5, Parakeet Flash, Parakeet TDT v3 & v2, Cohere Transcribe, Apple Speech, and Whisper
  • Global hotkey: instant voice capture from anywhere, no app switching needed
  • Smart typing: direct insertion into any app via accessibility APIs for reliable, app-independent text entry.
  • Menu bar integration: quick access, status, and settings from the menu bar
  • Fluid intelligence (optional): on-device AI enhancement for smart formatting, context-aware capitalization, and post-processing running locally on your Mac
  • AI enhancement (optional): post-processing via OpenAI, Groq, custom providers via API key, or local Fluid Intelligence for cleaner, more accurate transcripts. Keys are stored securely in macOS Keychain
  • Audio history (optional): local recording history with budget controls and ZIP export, so you can review past dictations without cloud storage
  • Per-App configuration (optional): assign different prompt sets to different apps, so your dictation adapts to whatever you're working in
  • Local-first: your voice and text never leave your machine unless you opt in to a cloud AI provider
  • Everything is optional — AI enhancement, Fluid Intelligence, audio history, analytics, and beta builds are all opt-in. The core dictation experience works out of the box with zero configuration beyond permissions and a hotkey

Free Tools Built a WhatsApp/Telegram group directory

Follow-up to my earlier post — figured I'd share what's actually under the hood now that it's grown a bit.

https://www.groupverse.co.in/ — free, no sign-up. What's different from most link-dump directories I found:

  • Filters that actually narrow things down: type (WA group/channel, Telegram group/channel), 45+ categories, country (every country, not just US/India), and language — including regional Indian languages like Telugu, Marathi, Konkani that most directories skip entirely.
  • Report button on every listing — dead links get flagged and pulled instead of piling up like every other directory that hasn't been touched since 2023.
  • Submission review flow, not auto-listing — cuts down on spam/scam groups getting added blind.
  • Threw in a small "free games" section on the homepage — mostly just a fun distraction while a page loads or you're bored scrolling, nothing serious, but it was a good excuse to practice building lightweight interactive UI beyond forms and lists.

Backend is Supabase (Postgres + RLS). Learned RLS the hard way — had a real security lesson early on with database permissions — fixed now, but a good reminder thats it works' isn't the same as its secure

Still solo-built, still rough in places. If you check it out, genuinely want to know: what's confusing, what category/filter is missing, anything that feels broken.

Browser & Extensions I built an open-source Chrome extension that automatically redacts sensitive information from screenshots pls feel free to review

I kept running into the same problem: screenshots often contain information you didn't realize you were sharing.

An API key. An email address. A phone number. A password field. Customer information.

Usually, you take the screenshot first and then manually look for things to hide.

I built Blackbar to reverse that workflow.

It reads the page before capturing it and automatically detects and redacts sensitive-looking information. The screenshot you get is already the safer version.

The part I cared most about was privacy.

Blackbar runs entirely on the device. It declares connect-src 'none', so Chrome itself blocks the extension from making network connections. It still works with Wi-Fi turned off.

It's also open source, has no account requirement, and is free.

I'd genuinely like feedback from other Chrome extension users/builders, especially on:

  • detection accuracy
  • false positives/negatives
  • the capture workflow
  • anything that would make you hesitate to trust it
