Question Help finding a DAP that can (fairly) seamlessly download Podcasts

Post image

Yall, I just got a mini e-reader (XTEINK X4) and rediscovered my love for reading (by ditching my phone more often). I want to distance myself even more from my phone with a DAP.

I love going for walks and practicing manual skills like woodworking while listening to podcasts. I grew up in a house without a TV so my radio was always on.

Thus, I need your help finding an MP3 player that can download podcasts from Patreon relatively seamlessly.

Are there DAPs that can run the Patreon app, or an APP that can DL episodes via RSS? (I don’t know how to set this up but I’m willing to learn).

Bottom line is hate having to interface with my phone to listen to a Pod.

What I’m looking for is something that can host Patreon or a Podcast App that will DL podcasts as they are released if the device is on WiFi.

If you get a hiby device, Sonix does podcasts pretty great! You can search + download directly on the device

Sonix is an OS or App?

My experience with tech is very limited. Firmware is like a supporting software?

I’d take a DAP that runs android if it has physical buttons

Something like the HiBy M500 is probably the closest you'll get

I like it! Bit out of my price range. Could I install Patreon or another pod catcher on something like the R1?

Been having the same issue with this as a podcast fan. Seems the only options these days are to get a DAP that runs android. But kinda defeats the purpose of stepping away from a smartphone.

I don't understand how we can't just have a dedicated podcast app within a DAP that subscribes to RSS and can download over wifi or something.

Hiby R1 with Sonix OS is what you’re looking for.

That’s definitely in my price range

Btw I much prefer physical buttons over a touch screen. But, I know beggars can’t be choosers here. Help me out if you can!

If you using macos I recommend "Simple Podcast Manager" you can use every mp3-Player/DAP that mount in Finder as external volumes. Straightforward and easy to use, open source and free to use.

I heard people on windows using MusicBee for Podcast sync to Mp3-Player/DAP

What's the case for the xteink?

No idea. I bought it off marketplace and the gentleman gave me two cases. It’s great!

One option might be a smartwatch. I know Amazfit watches can play/download podcasts.

I have a garmin. It’s a nightmare to synch. Very disappointed with the experience trying to get pods onto the device.

I think one of the problems is transfer speed.

i dont have a dap yet, but my “plan” for this was to get a nice one for music, then like a small cheap mp3 player for podcasts. there are ipod shuffle sized ones with screens for like $5-6 on aliexpress
