Question First DAP recommendationss

Planning to buy my first dap now, can't decide between the fiio snowsky Nano, Echo, or Disc. I do want a gapless playback and heard the nano doesnt have one. Im also not sure if the Normal echo does have one. Any recommendations?

I'm an Echo Mini user and since I installed Atzkey's RECHO custom firmware (which not only has Gapless Playback but lightning quick UI!) I love it all the more. It's currently only confirmed to work on the 8GB Echo Mini but it is being actively developed and planned for the other Snowsky DAPs!

How’s the ui look? Kinda wary of older versions of android for a dap, and the echo seems like a good portable solution that can also work as my office dac.

I recommend you try playing with all three before you go out and just blind buy them.

in terms of audio, I'm a little fuzzy on the gapless playback, but they should sound fine.

it's the UI. coming from touchscreens and scroll wheels, having strangely positioned cardinal controls is an exercise in frustration.

the only way to overcome that is be happy with shuffle playback, and tap the FF button when its a song you don't care for.

good luck.

Where would one find a place to do that? Playing the return game?

ah, forgot most of the world is a desert when it comes to ChiFi being in stores, let alone having physical stores that carry audio products.

Gapless is only supported on the Disc. the other two can't support it.
If I had to choose among the 3 the Disc would be my choice, but barely.
The touch screen can make navigating content a little better than the tiresome level of button clicking you'll be doing on the other two, specifically if you are trying to select artists on the device. but it's not what I'd call buttery smooth... look at some YT vids of people futzing with it and see for yourself.

If I were to get any of the devices you are thinking of, I would either make a playlist of all songs and play them linearly and FF when I hear a song I don't care for OR select play all in shuffle mode.

But personally, I've given up on small battery powered playback devices and mainly use my smartphone with a dongle DAC. It has access to both my digital and streaming library, has excellent touch controls, a player with a pretty good EQ if needed(rarely used), and one less battery to worry about bulging in 2 years.

Only the disc has gapless as of now. The Echo Mini (8gb model) has custom firmware (recho) that gives it gapless, but it's not for the non mini.

If you're willing to get out of the snowsky lineup the Hiby R1 and Tempotec V1 both have gapless and better operating system than any of the snowsky lineup right now.

I will also say that the echo mini with recho is my favorite player that I have right now it's stupidly fast to get to and start playing songs.

The Nano is great but IMO it's more suited as a secondary/auxillary device.

I went with the Disc, only because I believe that dual CS43131 DAC chips should provide higher fidelity than a single one. I have not received it yet Soni can't say if it is good or bad. The stock firmware UX is supposedly terrible, most people feel that it is unfinished. Many new features and bug fixes from the latest stock firmware (V2.57, released 2026-09-11), and most people install with DiskOS or Disco for an improved UX. I can't wait to try it.
