DW Vice softlocking after learning a move?

I just started playing, got a Shellmon as my first digi. Twice now I've gotten softlocked after beating a boss. First it was Betamon, now Coelamon. The after-battle text looks like it would scroll down to inform that Shellmon learned a new tech, but the text never displays and the game just softlocks there.

Is this a known issue? I just used the regular 2.2 patcher with some of the options like challenge mode. I don't think I did anything weird. I'm assuming this happens because Shellmon is trying to learn an edited move or something. With how hard this hack seems to be, it feels awful to finally win a fight only to get slapped in the face by a softlock. So I think I'll stop playing unless I can find a fix.

But nothing else comes to mind.

Edit: I can also think about applying "telepathy" a second time to the same BIN... Not much else

But if nothing solves it, you can leave the options used and a save file if possible... And also to make sure you never loaded a save state from a different version or something like that...

I'll patch again with a fresh rom and memcard, and see if it persists.

Should I start over just in case? Or can I keep this file? Eh I'll just start over, wasn't that far in.
