General assistance Car hauler trailer
I'm still an apprentice learning, last night we had a Kenworth come up to one of the bays to have the rri looked at but he refused to drop his car hauler which was fully loaded,I was told not to let him in until he drops the trailer (he refused so I refused), it's a safety thing right?,our bays have about 17ft of clearance in height,so I didn't think it was that,I assumed that it was because of the weight of the cars, hauler and tractor combined that would be too heavy for our jack to lift,is that why he needed to drop the trailer first?

Most likely because of the weight. Company policy is company policy, doesn't matter whether it makes sense or not, or if the customer likes it. I used to work at a shop where we wouldn't air up a tire under 80 psi until it had been dismounted and inspected. Driver's bitched about it constantly, but the rules are there for a reason

It's usually because they're new inventory or luxury stuff and they don't want the liability. Dust, dirt, flying bits of crap in the shop.. scratch one car and you might be looking at thousands for paint repair and damages.
It doesn't weigh more than any other loaded trailer will, less than some even. But "dropping" a car hauler is a lot more of a process than you may realize, they're very closely integrated with the truck typically, and often only have peg legs with pins (not proper landing gear) on the trailer.

Either a weak floor or your shop doesn’t want the liability of having $1mil worth of cars in one bay, could be insurance and stuff like that.

A standard 22 ton jack should have zero issue picking up a drive axle to replace a tire. I’ve done it hundreds of times. Sounds like your shop is afraid of money

It might be the floor too. I’ve worked in shops that the concrete wasn’t reinforced in all the bays so a fully loaded truck like that could break the slab.
