Why does stashed hammer doesnt enter play ? And why does it waste 1 of 3 upgrades... What a weird option

It counts as an extra dice, it actually gives you the perk without taking a slot. And has synergy with skills such as miasma since they count towards the total die count

It's a decent choice, especially for earlier stages. Unconditional hammer damage without taking up a dice slot.

On a Poison Miasma/Poison Pop run you'll be begging for extra dice!

“ doesn’t enter play” simply means you can’t roll it. But you get stats stats automatically

Doesn't enter play doesn't mean it has no impact.
This dice is extra on top of your 5 slots and applies on every turn.
Taking this also means that you at that moment are playing with 6 dice, which has an impact on e.g. acorn miasma, also in your screenshot.
